Our house was nearly entirely ungrounded on old knob and tube wiring and we also had a 60 year old service panel that needed replacing. To top things off, we had a baby on the way. Troy expertly staged the sequencing of the work so that all of the old outlets and switches were disconnected from knob and tube and rewired with Romex before the baby came. After we welcomed our daughter, the team performed the finishing touches by installing a new service panel and riser making sure that our home was completely safe for our little one. We ended up having some old wiring in the house go bad (old house) and they ended up re-doing almost all of our connections and junction boxes in the attic. Troy was one of the subcontractors working on our recent whole home remodel. He handled all of the electrical work, which was substantial. Since we have solar panels and storage battery, we decided to get all new electric appliances (including HVAC and hybrid water heater) -- no gas. The existing master service panel (MSP) was not sufficient and needed to be upgraded. He worked with PG&E to find a way to do so without running in a larger feed from the street, which would have been extremely expensive. He and his assistants worked efficiently and provided a lot of helpful suggestions and advice. He is very intent on making sure the customer is happy and gets the best solutions to fit their needs. He even ran in a few extra wires during the pre-wiring phase, to set us up for additional things we might want or need in the future (such as outdoor landscape lighting, extra lights in the attic, etc.) at no extra charge. I will also mention that the general contractor on our project was fantastic and all of his subcontractors, including Troy, were extremely high-caliber and did top-quality work. The fact that they use Farrington Electric speaks volumes and ensures that they maintain their excellent reputation. read more

This contractor did extremely poor quality work, including many code violations and generally sloppy practice. The modus operandi was to show up for a short time each day and leave the work to untrained or nearly-untrained helpers, while Troy was somewhere else. There was a consistent pattern of ignoring code requirements (i.e. using the wrong gauge of wire, using aluminum internal runs instead of the required copper) and shortcuts that gave almost no time or cost advantage but led to code violations or messy work. My attic was left strewn with wire everywhere, my kitchen switches miswired, my ovens connected with wire of insufficient gauge to support it, etc. In the end, I spent nearly $1200 to have these defects fixed. I thought it reasonable to ask Troy to reimburse me for half the amount, and I'd eat the other half. The fact that I'm writing this review should tell you about his response. Pleasant enough guy. Find somebody else to do your electrical work, though. UPDATE 10/26/16: New example of Troy's customer service - he posted this to me today: --------------- Subject: you're a fool and con !! "Your lies and bullshit are so fake !! you're a shit talking douche !!" --------------- I have no reason to ever talk to Farrington Electric again, I have nothing to gain by writing this review. I had frankly put it out of my mind, but more than a year later, Troy felt he had to bring it up again. All I know is that I'm out a lot of money to get this "work" fixed.
