We had a set of switches that were not working, that I thought I had shorted out while examining the circuits behind the wall, and over the phone, in our very first conversation, Dan was already giving me advice on how I could debug the problem, but still offered his services at a competitive price. About five years ago (yes, I know this review is outdated), I hired Dan Matthews to install some cameras at my home. At the time, the pricing was reasonable, but I learned (the hard way) the shortcuts. Dan installed the wires through the attic to a certain limit, but had ugly exposed wires on the siding and under the eaves. He didn't suggest to use camera mounts, so all the cameras were just screwed directly into the house. Fast forward a few years, and the camera hardware started to die so I replaced the camera system while trying to use the wiring that Dan left. They were generally OK, but exposed wiring started to degrade. During one rainstorm last winter, one of the wires (which apparently had cracked insulation due to exposure) got drenched with water which destroyed the wire and the camera hooked up to it. Before my recent painting project, I contacted Dan to see how much it would cost to properly install the cameras. He didn't seem interested as he told me it would need to wait for better weather. So, I wound up having to remove all the cameras and wires myself the day before the painter showed up. About two months ago, he told me that he would put me on calendar. That got pushed back due to his injuries, but he finally did show up. He looked around for 10 minutes and told me the price to "properly" install the 5 cameras and a wireless access point would be $3k (with the existing wires). Somebody else did it for a lot less. Although he wasn't able to come out the day of, he was able to make it out within the same week and within my schedule. There were no major issues with the light installation despite having lots of dangling lights and moving parts. He made sure to customize it to my liking and it looks great. I needed to install a Tesla charger in my garage. I thought it would be an easy process but it was more complex than I originally thought due to power availability and sub panel location. I had 3 electricians come out to give me a quote. All 3 provided different solutions to the paneling issues and all 3 provided different quotes. Of all the solutions, Dan's was the most straightforward and thankfully, his quote was reasonable so I moved forward with Dan. Glad I chose him. I had to reschedule a couple of times and thankfully Dan was flexible and understanding. He completed the work and he was very efficient. The results were outstanding. I have nothing but great things to say about my experience with Dan. I contacted him for assistance with a pair of electrical issues that arose at roughly the same time within my current residence, which I purchased a few months ago - (1) determining why an above-shower ventilation fan in my master bathroom that had suddenly/inexplicably stopped working and (2) re-mounting a ceiling fixture that had been installed (unfortunately, quite poorly) by a previous electrician. While I had attempted to perform some low-level troubleshooting on my own with regards to the first issue (specifically, I was able to determine that the fan unit itself remained functional and was therefore not at issue), I decided that any additional troubleshooting should be left to an expert. Dan replied very promptly to my request, got me on the calendar within a few minutes for the following afternoon (his next available window), and arrived promptly at the agreed-upon time. He then launched directly into the ventilation fan troubleshooting exercise - after performing a series of tests/checks, he succeeded in identifying (and, of course, resolving) the issue. He made similarly quick work of the fixture re-mounting exercise. Over the course of both tasks, Dan did an excellent job of communicating to me (1) what he was doing and (2) why he was doing it - I greatly appreciated this insight as the process progressed. All told, Dan was able to complete both tasks in a very timely manner - and for what I consider to be a very fair/reasonable price. His deep knowledge and experience were both readily apparent from start to finish - and were greatly appreciated from my end. Dan is great! A couple years ago we had an intermittent issue with flickering lights in the house. PG&E wasn't helpful at first, but Dan successfully diagnosed the issue as a problem on the utility's end. It still took some work to get PG&E out, but eventually they discovered a heavily worn electrical conduit that was causing problems for several houses in the neighborhood. Dan's diagnosis fee was quite reasonable and paid for itself several times over considering how many houses were getting poor electrical service from PG&E. read more

I reached out requesting assistance with replacing a light fixture and repairing an under the kitchen cabinet light. Dan recommended replacing all the under the cabinet lights with LED due to chronic issues with under the cabinet lights.
