What a slap in the face. We got an outrageously high quote to install ceiling light/fans in our new offices a few miles from our home, where they worked last time. It was obvious Ray didn't want to do it (he was too busy, it was too small of a job, and we are out of his way) so he quoted high instead. It was terribly insulting, considering we were repeat customers. The leased rooms didn't come with any ceiling lights and we needed installation we could trust. The only reason it's three stars and not two is because he did call and follow up -- showed enough concern to do that -- to see if we'd found anyone else and would be ultimately willing to pay his price if we had to. No way. It would have been better to just use floor lamps. The solution ended up being a sweet gentleman found on Craigslist who drove 70 miles each way and charged only 1/5 the Bay Light quote (yes, you read that right!). One fifth! He wasn't a big name company, but he was available on a Saturday and did an excellent job without complaining. I know big jobs have the priority and if someone doesn't have time, they don't have time (neither did our other electrician that we called). But to inflate the price so severely instead of just turning down the work is crummy. read more

I guess even Yelp isn't always right. Had scheduled to meet Raymond at 5, and even rushed home to meet him. But I receive the text at 6 that says he won't arrive until 7. With babies at home and family in town, that was the worst possible time - right in the middle of bathing kids and sitting down to eat dinner. Bay Light Electric is the electrician we hired for a 200 AMP Service Upgrade, dedication to the appliances within our home, four new exterior outlets and new light fixtures for each side of the garage door. Initial phone contact was with Raymond, who 30 minutes after talking to him on the phone was at our site to review the scope of work. We received an estimate via e-mail on the same day which itemized what they were going to do; we accepted the proposal. He showed up on time with his crew, Albert and Jose, all three were always on time and polite. When talking to him throughout the job he did not hesitate to answer questions about other problems we were having with electrical. He worked well with the City inspectors and was familiar with Silicon Valley Power (City of Santa Clara provides electrical to us, not PG&E). The stucco guy he used did a great job. The amount of sheet rock removed to reach wiring was nominal compared to what other electricians had proposed or flat out said was too hard to reach and then offered inflated prices. Overall the Bay Light Electrical team was responsive, neat, thorough, professional and completed the job for the proposed price. I recently just had recessed lighting put into my condo and I would like to give 6 stars if it were possible. I had searched around and got several estimates, and Bay Light Electric was the lowest price, with the highest reviews. I called so many people to get recessed lighting installed in my house, lot of companies here with 5 stars did not even bother to reply my calls and others whom I have talked to are way too expensive and they said we just install lights you need to hire to fix any kind of patchwork if sheet rock chips etc etc and they just wanted to nickle and dime you for every change. I have been looking for an electrician who can do repairs for commercial customers. After running into an electrical problem at out business, I talked to several electricians who told me that they no longer do commercial jobs. Luckily I was referred to to Bay Light electric. Raymond and his assistant are probably the best contractors we have used at our house. We used them to install recessed lighting in our main room and hallway. They are very professional and courteous. They installed our recessed lighting with care for our property. They covered the work area with a cloth and did all the clean-up afterwards. They also measured out the room and showed me various options for the layout. In the hallway they showed me the right places to put the lights to maximize the effect. Another good thing about Bay Light is that they show up when they say they will show up. No waiting around. Finally, I had some other electrical items at my house that needed to be looked at.
