I was always apprehensive about hiring a contractor but I must say, with Costa Bella, every penny was worth it! Jeff visited us for a sunroom project, he said he could do it but he recommended instead another company that specializes in sunrooms and would be much cheaper. WHY CAN"T I GIVE THEM 6 STARS?!?!? Seriously? tl;dr: Wow! Hire these guys! They are incredible. We love the location of our house in Rio Del Mar, but it showed its 1977 roots throughout. Things were falling apart and it was time we really made the house into what we wanted. We had no experience with a major remodel before (A remodel for us was to buy a new house), but we jumped in toward the end of 2020 and called seven local contractors, of which 5 called us back, 3 showed up and only 2 pursued a bid. We really like how we connected with Jeff. He took my wild idea of tearing out a wall and stretching out our kitchen to change the flow of the house and made it his dream too. Jeff let us tour some of their other work in progress and provided some great references to help answer our questions which were extremely beneficial in deciding our approach. I was really amazed by how these people felt like the team became family and how they said the crews were respectful of neighbors. We inked a deal and paid our deposit on December 31, 2020. We were impressed with Jeff's son-in-law/project manager Vit and how detail-oriented he was. He was always thinking ahead and providing great ideas for how to work through some design and construction challenges. Vit was great with communication and steering us in the right direction. Our project grew from what we originally started with but everything was on time and within budget as we agreed to and modified as we expanded the work. The workers were just outstanding and honest and as noted, they were very respectful of the neighborhood and our neighbors. Our neighbors were kind of sad that the project was finished as they liked conversing with them. Best of all, I always judge a company not by how they handle themselves whenever something goes right, but more by how they handle themselves when something goes wrong. There was very little that went wrong, but Vit and the team were super responsive to any little issue that occurred once we moved in, from little scuffs in the paint to fixing a circuit breaker for an appliance. We even got excellent recommendations for roofing repair for an issue that had nothing to do with the remodel. Their knowledge of local suppliers and industry people is pretty epic and the connections with our remodel make it much easier to find reliable tradespeople thanks to Coasta Bella We will be back. We had CBB gut and rebuild two bathrooms and a kitchen in our second-home condo in Aptos. This was our first time working with a contractor for full room remodels. We chose CBB from among four companies, and the reason we chose CBB was that first, they are very connected with local businesses which gives them a real competitive advantage, and second, they have a great portfolio of very high-end work they've completed in the area. This puts CBB in another class, yet their estimated costs were totally in line with other more run-of-the-mill outfits. Even still we felt we got more for the money, because at the same cost others were offering semi-custom or pre-fab cabinets, CBB was working with a great supplier in Watsonville who provided fully custom cabinets (and who seems to prioritize CBB as a partner as well). Vit was great to work with and he has a good relationship with local materials and fixtures suppliers. He made great suggestions on how to maximize the utility from our material budget, as well as "see things" we didn't, such as enlarging a room and moving a door a few inches in order to make more elbow room in a new shower. He made it easy to find time to get together and meet to discuss various aspects of the project when necessary and hooked us up with great people at the local plumbing fixture and tile providers. What really amazed us was that, during a time of supply shortages, CBB was able to put together a plan that seemed aggressive to us but nonetheless was completed on time and within budget. We kept saying to ourselves, "is this really going to be done by mid October?" and the answer ended up being "Yup!" Admittedly as with all projects like this, not everything went according to plan and a few loose ends needed to be tidied up after the project was done. An example: we had an issue with the lighting in one bathroom that was totally our fault (well actually it was Wayfair's fault for advertising the fixture as dimmable), and CBB made themselves available for the replacement and came out several times to try out different dimmers, and this was well over a month post completion, which tells me they will remain engaged until they are certain you are satisfied and will not leave you hanging (even if they are not at fault). Another example: we had a chandelier in a box that they offered to install for free even though it wasn't part of our plan. All along the way I felt that everyone I worked with was eager to please, took their work seriously and with pride, and kept communication lines wide open, straightforward and honest about every aspect of the project from the initial estimate to our options when something unexpected comes up. read more

Where do I even begin to express my appreciation for Costa Bella Builders? We were in a unique situation of needing a home addition very quickly, as we found out we were going to have twins and really needed to add more room to our small house before they were born. Through a neighbor, we were connected to the team at CBB and from the beginning, we sensed a great connection with them. Our two big needs from a contractor: stick their deadlines and communicate well with us, as we already had a toddler and very busy lives and we were in crazy season trying to prepare ourselves to add two more little lives to the family. After talking with CBB and four other contractors, CBB was the only team that was confident they could complete our project on time. It seem too good to be true that the first people we talked to were the ones we ended up going with, but looking back, it was the best decision we could've made. From the beginning, Vitt and Jeff were amazing to work with, helping us to figure out the best layout for our addition, while working alongside of the architect and designer that we wanted to use. They were a great combination of being able to dream about possibilities while also sticking to our limited budget. Every meeting we had with them felt wonderful; we felt listened to, supported, and excited about what was ahead. Then in the midst of getting our permits and preparing for construction, I ended up in the hospital with preterm labor at 27 weeks with our twins. We were set to begin construction two weeks after I ended up in the hospital, and with a lesser crew, we would've never gone forward with the remodel. But because we trusted CBB so much, we ended up deciding to continue on with the remodel throughout the craziness of being in the hospital (which ended up being an eight week stay) and possibly having our babies very early. That's how much we trusted them to do well and to follow through on what we had planned. We honestly can't believe the blessing this team was for us during that time, as they worked so hard and diligently on our project, allowing some of our family members to do on site checks with them while we were at Stanford, and being flexible with us throughout all the chaos of that time period. Once construction began, each week they hit their deadlines, communicated any issues that came up and were flexible with changes and the inevitable issues that come up during projects like this. They also do very good work: their subcontractors are excellent, the construction they do is quality and the outcome of our remodel is absolutely beautiful. Our Interior designer sister-in- law and architect brother-in-law helped us with this project and when it was all over, they said it was an absolute delight to work with Vit and the team; they said it's very rare to find a team as talented and communicative as CBB. We honestly just couldn't believe the blessing we had with CBB- that they would listen to us, communicate well and have our best in mind throughout the project meant the world. I have told so many people this and I mean it, we absolutely loved our contractors and I thank God for them on a regular basis. I don't think many people could say the same thing about their experience with contractors, as most people end up frustrated and feeling not listened to, or somehow even manipulated. We never felt this; we only have gratitude for them, and each day that we live in our newly remodeled home, we are thankful for all the work they did for us and the way they treated us. After interviewing 4 different contractors, we chose Jeff Thranow of Costa Bella Builders for a gut reno of a 3000-square-foot house. They put on a new roof; coordinated mold/asbestos remediation; moved a ton of interior walls to connect the living room/kitchen and create an office; re-did the entire kitchen; moved a bathroom and remodeled 2 more; updated the plumbing and HVAC; took out 2 hideous fireplaces and added a gas insert; installed engineered flooring on the first floor; added an AWESOME Harry Potter closet under the stairs... and right when they thought they were almost finished, we asked them to rip off all the miles of deteriorating cedar shakes and replace them with Hardie siding, and add a big second story deck. :D Jeff and his son-in-law Vitt, who was in charge of the job once it started, were fantastic to work with, as were their subs. They listened to our opinions and concerns, gave excellent feedback and advice, and helped move us along in the decision-making process when we were stalling. Since we live an hour away from the house, prompt and clear communication was a must -- and both Jeff and Vitt were super responsive to all of our email, texts, and phone calls, and cheerfully worked with our challenging schedules. They also were careful to minimize the impact on our neighbors as much as possible, especially in terms of a inconvenient parking situation, which I really appreciated. Most importantly, their work was on time, on budget (most of the few overages that occurred were because of choices we made; their bids and change orders were accurate and well-explained), and very very high quality. There was only one glitch with Title 9, and they fixed it immediately. We are absolutely thrilled with this house -- the transformation is unbelievable. We recently completed a full kitchen remodel, and we could not have been happier with Costa Bella Builders and our Project Manager, Vittorio Castelli. The project was on budget, on schedule (very fast!), very clean, and all of the crew and subs were trustworthy, talented and friendly. Our house is 24 years old, we are the original owners, and this was our first major remodel in the home. We had used Schmitz Woodworks previously for built-in bookshelves and a built-in cabinet in our dining room so we wanted our kitchen cabinets to follow the same design. Dave Schmitz drew up the design for the kitchen, basically keeping the same footprint (We highly recommend Schmitz Woodworks for custom cabinets.) The kitchen was gutted except for the hardwood floors. We did not have a designer. We relied heavily on Houzz and Pinterest, and Vitt accompanied us to the Appliance, Plumbing, Countertop, and Tile stores which was super helpful and reassuring. We actually went away two times during the remodel thanks to Vitt's encouragement and we are so glad we did! There were absolutely no problems and no trust issues and it sure made the time fly faster. Highly recommend it! Vitt has a great personality, excellent eye for design, is calm, very well organized, and responds so quickly to texts. We really appreciated his level of communication as to what and when to expect things to happen. My husband was very worried that there would be damage to the rest of the house during the construction and we were very happy with the way the crew covered the floors and shelves and at the end of construction, the clean up crew did a great job. Vitt was communicative every step of the way, was patient with my many questions and minor changes to the plan, was conscientious about cost as we explored our options, and went out of his way to make sure everything turned out just like we wanted it. Jeff and Vitt from Costa Bella Builders were the best! They check all the boxes. Professional, check. Knowledgeable, check. Quality of work, check and meet deadlines and budgets, check and check. Actually finished project early! When does that ever happen for contractors. I cannot say enough great things about this team of contractors. In September of 2018, we decided to do an addition to our house, originally thinking we wanted to add a second story. When we talked to Costa Bella Builders, they considered our budget and project and presented another idea. We ended up staying on one level and broke ground on our new master bedroom and bath, office and laundry room in April 2019. It was finished August 2019, a month early. They stayed within our budget and our 1960's home is now insulated, updated and feels brand new with a smart design and plenty of storage even for our small space. We worked with Jeff and Vitt on a very difficult remodel on the ridge. In the long run, we were unable to continue due to costs because of the difficulty in stabilizing the land on the hillside. They were so positive and helpful during the months that we worked together and continue to advise us on the home that we eventually purchased. They are the best! read more

Owner, Jeff Thranow, returned my call promptly. I shared details of our major remodel and asked if he could come out to take a look at our design, survey and home. He asked if we "had a budget in mind." When I declined to give him a number, he suddenly didn't "have time" to spend with us, said he wouldn't be the "best choice" for our job. How would he know when he didn't even know what the project entailed or how much we have budgeted? Disappointed with his response, especially since he was referred by a Designer.
