It's walking distance to everything and they give free breakfast vouchers for Cody's just about 1 block away. Breakfast was also awesome! They have complimentary water, tea, coffee, fruit, and other small snacks in the main area. We stayed in the Mr Charlie's room on the first floor and really enjoyed the set up. I would recommend this place to anyone staying in mount Dora and would not hesitate to stay here again. The staff were extremely friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. Also, we were celebrating an anniversary and they gave us a complimentary bottle of wine which was a very nice treat! Highly recommend this historic Inn to anyone and will be back in the future!

Mt Dora Historic Inn…read more Although the owner, Rachael, is delightful and helpful, by phone and in person, she lives three hours away, so you may never meet her. Calling the property an Inn or Bed-and-Breakfast is a stretch. Despite photos of a six-chair dining table and plated food, no meals are served on-site. Instead, breakfast consists of two vouchers for a sandwich shop two blocks away that does not offer typical breakfast items such as eggs, pancakes, or waffles. The undersized window air conditioner in our small room whirred away 24/7, but it was necessary to also employ the ceiling fan in order to be cool enough to sleep. The drawn shades at each window serve a double purpose, keep out the light yes, but also the hide that the windows haven't seen a squeegee this decade. The pedestal sink (in our room) had the only mirror, so my wife stood up to put on her makeup. I waited my turn to wash hands and face. The toilet and a shower stall shared a separate small room. I think the last time I saw one ply toilet paper was in Boy Scout camp.

The place is owned by Inez and her granddaughter, Shelby, who helps run the place. Both are so gracious and accommodating. The Inn is charming, clean and conveniently located by downtown and Rennigers (which is why we were there - for the Antique show). It's affordable and they were nice enough to work with us on their two-night required stay rule. (For festivals they require a two-night stay but we only came for one and since they weren't sold out, they didn't charge us the extra night). We loved our stay and highly recommend this bed & breakfast to others..really good people and we're happy to support their business. We'll be back to Mt Dora for another festival and definitely staying here.

But I thought it rude that she didn't offer to show me the house after I asked to see the rooms that were empty also a very strong smell of Canabus Coming through the Ac in our upstairs room . Late at nite and again early in the am 5 /6 ish . Informed the owner at breakfast .. she said she burns sage .... was not safe it was pot for sure . I was telling he so she knew people could smell it I wasn't complaining - just thought she should know . Also we sleep with a fan and I forgot mine so I went to the hall closest to see if there was one , instead of bothering her . I found one in the hall bath a clip on one on a towel rack so I didn't think she would mind so we used it . Well when we came back later that nite there was a note on the hall bathroom door stating rather rudely that this was a private bath for another room .i did see the private sign on the door but I knew no one else was staying in the main house but us ... so the bottom line is we loved the place But I don't think the owner is as laid back as she looks or thinks she is lol

I feel like we have a new home for when we visit Mount Dora!…read moreFound this place while researching pet-friendly bed & breakfasts to stay at. Spoke with Margie from the beginning, who is the owner and manager of Heron Cay. Super close to town, and they partner with a fantastic transportation service (run by Allan) that will cart you to town as soon as you call (although if you prefer walking it's definitely within walking distance- about 1/2 mile out). Super comfy and homey, I loved how we felt like we were staying with a relative when we were there. We were in the Captain's Loft, which was in a private walk up and on the second floor. Beautiful view of the lake, comfortable bed, and I just couldn't get enough of the decor. Also had a full sized coffee pot with great coffee for use in the room (I love and drink a lot of coffee so this definitely gets bonus points!) Margie serves a beautiful breakfast with delicious home-made bread, fresh cut fruit, eggs, sausage and amazing bread pudding. Coffee and juice as well. She also has super cute Borzoi dogs and kitties that I fell in love with. Don't go to Mount Dora without visiting Margie at Heron Cay Lakeside, really made this the best visit to Mount Dora ever! We will never go back and not stay here!

We like bed and breakfasts and were interested in staying here while visiting Mt Dora. Check in…read morewas easy and we had chosen a room on the 3rd floor. They suggested packing small suitcases which was smart because the steps are steep and narrow. The house is definitely Victorian style. Lots of wallpaper, pictures and decorations. Our room was very nice with loads of room. We had a small refrigerator and a coffee maker in our room. We had views of the pool and the lake. We were disappointed in the breakfast both days. Fresh fruit and homemade bread were excellent. Unfortunately pumpkin spice bread was served both days. The main breakfast which was an egg dish both days came out so much later and we wanted to get moving, so that was unanticipated. The outside area could be really nice, but it needs a lot of work. The front porch was nice to sit and enjoy being outside.

Quiet and safe place to park your boat. Kitchenette rooms, which is the only room style I've stayed in, are spacious with a stove, fridge, microwave and coffee pot. Plugs available to charge your batteries at no charge. Beds are super comfortable and A/C is ice cold. Love this place.

Yayy first review! I hope you'll find it helpful!…read more Our visit here was perfect. We decided on a last minute trip to Alexander Springs and were worried that we wouldn't find a place to stay in time (we didn't have our camping gear together so a hotel/inn was a MUST). Found Fox Den and was able to make a reservation immediately- what a relief! I was SUPER excited to have my first inn experience. The inn is located within 5 minutes from a Publix and 20 minutes from the springs. The rates are fixed prices so no surprises there! We chose to stay in a Small Room which had 2 double beds, a tv, mini refrigerator, air conditioner, a coffee maker, and a small bathroom (soap/towels/toilet paper were all fully stocked). They even turned the A/C on for us so we had a nice cool room upon arrival. I even noticed how clean everything was, WOW! Parking is right outside of your room and plenty of space in the lot. The owners are always available by phone-call/text- and answered all of my questions. If you're looking for a cozy and different experience, this is definitely somewhere you want to go.

The only pet peeve would be the sheets, they are polyester and they kept rolling down at night. They also produce static electricity and you get shiny sparks in the middle of the night. The location is great, walking distance from Donnelly park. Management was very accommodating. The place is advertised as pet friendly (some units) but it is not. If you have an overzealous dog that barks at the drop of a pin, this is not the place for you, we could hear other dogs barking in the pet friendly units as well. This is an old building so walls and floors are not soundproof. We could hear the other tenants yawning (if you have kids, not a place for you either. They will hear more than just yawning, if you know what I mean). So, if your dog barks at other tenant's voices and they leave early asking for a refund, you will be asked to pay for those missing days. So, not a pet friendly at all. Overall a good place to stay if you are an adult and don't mind noises, but don't bring your dog (or kids).

Friendly: the staff is very welcoming and friendly. Always available if you need to call the lift or have a question. Rooms are all furnished with an individual style. Breakfast was great! Just let them know when you think you will head to the dining room and then you order off the menu. Everything we had was great and prepared just for us. My husband was particularly fond of the grits, ordering a double portion once he had tried them! Ip really enjoyed the Cinnamon Toast with Blueberry preserves. Location:Um, did I mention it is right in the midst of Winter Garden? Great spot for walking about and exploring. I also enjoyed grabbing a cup of coffee before breakfast and sitting out front near the Winter Garden fountain, so peaceful. They also have a designated parking lot next to the Inn for cars with tags (which you get a checkin). Highly recommend this spot. If you are put off by having separate hot and cold faucets, maybe pass this up, but if you want an experience and a great stay, definitely check it out and check in!
