My husband and I decided to head to Mount Dora for a one night getaway. We stayed in Mount Dora one other occasion over a decade earlier. We like the quaint area and small town feel. We also like to walk around the area and try out the food spots. They have an outdoor market on Sunday. We stayed at this lovely bed and breakfast. We ended up being the only guests staying there. We had the entire house to ourselves. The room was antique but well maintained. The bathroom was updated and the water was warm with great pressure. The bed was comfortable. We did watch a movie on the small television; and there was an issue with the television, but the host fixed it. The host over the Inn were pleasant and welcoming. They live on-site. They suggested a couple of places in town. The bed and breakfast is located within walking distance of a lot of sights and restaurants. The breakfast was cooked to order as we were the only guests that day. It was delicious, served on-site, and the perfect amount of food. After flipping through photos from over a decade earlier, I realized this was the same location we stayed at over a decade ago. At that time, it had a different owner, and we used a Groupon to cover the costs. We would definitely stay again! It was a great price for the value, cleanliness, and hospitality. Thanks! read more

Are you looking to be close to everything in town? Cozy? Peaceful? Enchanted? Treated like you're at home with family? This is the place. I could not be happier or more impressed. I always love the welcoming style of a bed n breakfast, hotels are a little cold and harsh feeling to me. This is a gorgeous home, you'll feel like you're staying in an old mansion, the parking is in the driveway so navigating to your room is like walking up to your house. The rooms and furnishings are gorgeous and classically decadent. Although vintage nothing feels worn or old, everything's in great shape, well taken care of and very stylish. It was easy to see and feel how wonderful this location is, but what we didn't expect was the phenominal service. They do not skimp on the breakfast, the options are tasty, decorative, well thought out, and fantastically balanced. From the colors to the ingredients it was a joy to view and consumed. We stayed the night at a friends for one of the nights and made sure we ran back for the breakfast (and we are not morning people!). They make you feel so cared for and we left with so much joy in our hearts. I'm very grateful for them. Cheers to Sandy and Joe! We LOVED this place! We did a little get away to Mount Dora for a couple days and chose the Magnolia Inn as our place to stay. We absolutely loved our stay here! The location is perfect! It is walking distance to downtown, to the marina and just about anywhere you want to visit while being in Mt. Dora! The hosts Evan and Christy were wonderful! They made sure you had everything you needed and always seemed to be checking to ensure you were happy and your stay was going well. Evan gave great advice of places to eat and Christy made sure you started your day off with an exceptional breakfast! They are a great team together and are great Innkeepers! We stayed here the weekend of the big craft show. IT is a great location as we could walk into the show and to have lunch and dinner and not fight the traffic. The house inside is amazing and the front is beautiful but the back left some things to be desired. The owner is in the process of selling and it needed a little sprucing up. The breakfast was amazing and the owner was very nice and knowledgeable. It will be interesting to see what the new owners do with the B&B. read more

Just spent a really lovely 2 nights here. Everything was terrific from beginning to end. The owner greeted us at the door and gave us a tour as well as provided information on mount Dora. The B and B is adorable, and our room was furnished with a very comfy queen sized bed. There is a mini fridge downstairs with soft drinks and we were able to keep our cooler there. Tea, coffee, water and chocolate chip cookies available all the time. But the breakfasts were phenomenal. Choice of 3 apps each day- mango pineapple sorbet, cold berry soup or yogurt granola parfait ( best granola of my life!). Entrees included a wonderful lemon blueberry Dutch baby, eggs Benedict, quiche and avocado toast with various toppings. Dutch baby was my fav! We will be back if in mount Dora again. read more

What a BEAUTIFUL, relaxing experience we had at the Magnolia Inn! Our weekend was saved by the helpful owners and staff (Christy, Evan and Nicole) at the Magnolia Inn after a very disappointing early Airbnb checkout. You never can be assured that an airbnb will live up to the description and photos and the one we booked certainly did not. We thought our weekend was ruined. With great relief, the owners and staff of Magnolia Inn were able to help us with booking the most amazing room (Inverno room) and saved the remainder of our time off! We were greeted by Evan right at arrival and felt very invited and included in this wonderful bed and breakfast! The Magnolia house has wonderful history which he took the time to share with us and provided a small tour. Wonderfully decorated rooms that made you relax immediately, like home!! Our room was fresh and clean with great privacy. The shower was refreshing and being picky about water quality, the water left my hair and skin soft. We MUST review on the AMAZING Breakfast! It really impressed us both!!!! Wonderful multi course breakfast with from scratch recipes! Christy even made our eggs into a heart shape. :) Nicole was a wonderful host and made sure we were content the entire morning. I reviewed the Magnolia Inn back in 2019 and my wife and I said we wouldn't be back again. Well we took another chance because our favorite place to stay in Mt Dora was full. After meeting the New Owners (Sandy and Joe) and spending 3 wonderful days at the Magnolia Inn, I took down my old review. It was no longer pertinent. We were met by Sandy who immediately made us feel welcomed. She informed us they were the new owners of the Inn. She said to each of us each day, "Let Joe or I know if we can do any improvements or you have any suggestions to make your stay more comfortable. We want to make sure you are happy here!" We stayed in the new Carriage House room outside the main house, had its own parking space, kitchen, walk-in closet, sitting room and was ground level. My wife felt like a Queen (I'm such an enabler). The breakfasts in the main house were made to order and were excellent. Again, Sandy would check to make sure everything was just right. The location of the B&B is a 5-10 minute walk into town. So you can park your car and walk to and from this B&B. Both my wife and I will be staying here again when we come back to Mt Dora. read more

Our 3-night stay at the Magnolia Inn was outstanding. Cristy welcomed us with a tour of the historic house and invited us to treat it like it was ours. She was very helpful in guiding us to restaurants and local activities. The inn was perfectly located with a short walk into the retail, entertainment, and restaurant section of Mount Dora. The bedroom was very comfortable, and the rest of the house was all we needed. Parking was off-street beside the entrance, allowing an easy transition for luggage. Christy and Nicole's breakfasts were fantastic. They started with a drink of choice and a house-made biscotti. That was followed by an "appetizer". We had the same one every day - a cold fruit soup (think smoothie) for me and a fruit/granola yogurt for my wife. Finally, the entree was a selection from 3 options that differed each day. We had Bananas Foster French Toast, an omelet, and a Belgian Waffle with blueberry compote. Lunch was not necessary after a satisfying breakfast. I highly recommend the Magnolia Inn when in Mount Dora. read more

NOTE: This is an update, January 2017. Glad to report that the Magnolia Inn is under new ownership (see their comments at the end of this and other reviews). Sounds like they're doing everything possible to make a go of it. I'll give them another chance - hope you will too. ORIGINAL REVIEW: I really wanted to give at least four stars, because Lucy, the innkeeper, clearly wants to please. (She was very cooperative, quickly raising the thermostat when we said we were too cold yesterday during a cold and rainy afternoon.) This is a lovely old home with several rooms available for guests. The Garden Room is bright and comfortable, with a king sized bed that is not too soft, not too hard, just right. Two chairs for sitting. Three reading lamps. Good quality lace curtains and a couple of nice, old quilts. A bathroom that is adequate, stocked with quality toiletries and good towels. The common areas are spacious and inviting, including a large table where we played a game to while away a rainy afternoon. Where things fell apart was at Breakfast. Because spouse is celiac, both of us had to eat eggs - choice, Lucy said, of omelet or scrambled. We said omelet, but what arrived was a plate of scrambled eggs with vegetables scrambled in. This was barely ok (spouse ate mine). Orange juice from a plastic jar, one glass poured by Lucy. At the appointed time (9 am sharp) Lucy brought out a generous plate of fruit, toast, butter (no jam), and bacon. No side plates, but in just enough time for the toast to get very cold, the eggs arrived and one could begin eating. What put me off was the large and very strange selection of condiments on the table (yes, I did count): seven (7!) assorted bottles of imitation maple syrup, most of which had less than 1/3 inch of syrup; two bottles of honey, ditto. Four bottles of salad dressing, for what purpose I could not guess. One bottle of cranberry horseradish sauce! Two grungy bottles of catsup, almost empty. Two bottles of soy sauce. One mustard. One plastic bottle of Smuckers grape jelly. Two bottles of Tabasco sauce. Several assorted salts and peppers, most in need of filling. Still no jam. The side table where Lucy serves coffee and tea was literally a pile of boxes of tea bags, napkins, cups. The two used tea cups we returned yesterday afternoon were still sitting on the dining table. All in all the breakfast was unappetizing and that is putting it mildly. In the lobby of this lovely old home is a certificate saying they won the award for "best breakfast" in 2004 - this was clearly under a previous owner, or at the very least had nothing to do with the breakfast today. Oh and then there was the common areas being pitch dark, not a single night light, by 8 pm. I nearly tripped twice trying to find the cork screws, wine glasses, and cookies we were told were available at all times. Sorry, Magnolia Inn. Sorry, Lucy. I'm only disappointed that we are stuck here for another night. For $200/night, we expect better. As I said I wanted to give 4 stars -- but breakfast and other amenities matter. read more

After being bumped from the original room we booked and discovering the bed was like a rock we then were told breakfast was only between 8 and 9 am making any sort of rest or sleeping in a bit impossible. Once getting down stairs to collect our breakfast we were told we could not bring it back to our rooms. Considering we are still going through a pandemic, I was not about to sit nose to nose with a bunch of strangers . Needless to say we packed and vacated the property only to have to go elsewhere to eat. This was NOT the kind of B&B experience I was used to. Although the home was very pretty and located within walking distance to town, nothing was convenient at all. And the fact of not being able to eat breakfast that we paid for, just pushed any idea of returning off the chart. read more

New owners are friendly and accommodating. My wife and I stayed there for New Years weekend. We had a great time! The location is two blocks from the shops and main area of Mt Dora, which is called the "New England of the south" for good reasoning. The Magnolia Inn was decorated for Christmas perfectly. The breakfasts were large and very home made. There were drinks (including wine and some liquor) available 24/7. The owners just build a yoga room in a separate building in the back yard and my wife is excited to spend a weekend there on a yoga retreat. The owner is a yoga instructor and teaches others to be yoga instructors. A few things that need to be addressed: We stayed in the Garden room, so I can only speak of our room, I saw the other rooms in the main house and all were large and had normal sized bathrooms, but our room had a tiny bathroom and the water pressure was so poor, it was not really worth taking a shower. Also the shower was sooo small I could not bend down in it to pick up the soap that dropped. The other thing that may (or may not) become an issue is that the owners do not live at the Inn and they have other full time jobs. I have never owned a B&B, so maybe I am speaking out of line, but I get the feeling that running a B&B takes full time attention and this may become an issue when they are full. Over all, would we stay there again? Certainly due to the location, the price and the new owners. If the price were to change and go up, I'd have to think about other options in town. What a great trip because of the hosts and owners of The Magnolia Inn B&B. Pamela and Keith were amazing. My family rented three rooms for the holiday weekend. All rooms, linens and facilities were very clean and comfortable. Each morning we were served delicious, fresh, homemade breakfast. A choice of three options were presented--unusual for a boutique B&B. The hospitality was just really good here and we were made to feel like family. Erica, the Inn Keeper also provides message which we decided to do--excellent deep tissue message! Pamela our host is also a yoga instructor and offered to do yoga one morning for my Mother and I--they have an incredibly peaceful separate building/gazebo for message and yoga. Pamela was excellent at yoga instruction and her guidance was perfectly tailored to the yoga level we needed. The 24/7 cookies, coffee, soda and water were wonderful. The peaceful zen-like grounds were enchanting. A definite recommend! Thank you for making our weekend perfect! read more

I was organizing an event and several people from my group stayed at the Magnolia Inn. I was there for 5 nights and can't get over how wonderful Lucy was. She was helpful, patient, attentive, but not intrusive. The decor is lovely--everything I would expect from a B&B and then some! The downstairs area is great because it's so spacious, and there is a lot of room for people to spread out. I really enjoyed my time there. It was my first time at a B&B. My family had a confirmed reservation for Christmas Eve. We were driving down from Atlanta and hit the worst storm of the year. Traffic was sometimes at a crawl. I called Lucy and explained. I wanted her to know we would be in late. She was appreciative of the call but then called later and said she was not willing to stay late and that she would not be accommodating us. I asked her if she could leave a key as happens often with B&Bs. She said no. I understood that she might have had plans out of the B&B for her own Christmas Eve but arrangements could have and really should have been made. I offered to pick up the key. She refused. Common courtesy from a reasonable innkeeper would not include stranding a family with a reservation on Christmas Eve. We were pretty shocked. I did learn later that there are other B&Bs in Mount Dora with better reputations. I would wager that the awards and favorable press are all from prior management. read more

My husband and I had a very nice trip to Mount Dora and we were lucky to have reservation at The Magnolia Inn, We spent two nights and we highly recommend it as a wonderful place to stay. The house is beautiful, builded in 1926, is comfortable and delightful in all senses, with spacious social areas, bedrooms and nice patio and front yard. Everything was perfectly clean and cozy. Breakfast was something delicious, complete and table so well served. Also having coffee and tea at the dinning the 24 hours........ It is a peacefull place. About the personal touch very nice people were the guests at the Inn and the hosts Keith and Pamela are so kind and gentle that make you feel you are home. read more
