I've travelled all over and have been to many stores. Are there prettier stores, heck yes! But they do not compare to what makes VM excellent. For a small town store, they have their act together. I am disappointed that they recently let my favorite butcher go, though. He is a really good person. Maybe you can get that even the best people run into circumstances that affect their day. We find Dierbergs to be consistently superior to other chains, but I had never seen a Dierbergs like this one. We've vacationed at the lake many times over the years, but this was the first time I had been inside the Dierbergs Lake View location. Wow. First, there's the obvious. The view. They have an area upstairs where you can eat premade food that you purchase there, and enjoy a beautiful view of the lake. Try getting that at any other grocery store. They carry the regular things that you'd expect from a grocery store, but they also have a lot of high end items - seafood, cheeses you'd expect from a specialty store, and some very nice wine selections. Ultimately, it is a grocery store, so they have a wide variety of provisions. No matter how long you're staying in the area, you can find everything you could possibly need for your entire trip. We like to hit a store as soon as we arrive in town to pick up some breakfast options and snacks for our trip, and anything we may have forgotten to pack, and this place is perfect for that. It's also great if you want to put together a nice charcuterie with wine back at your rental.
