Was also missing the tortillas from my fajitas. I complained to grubhub, terrible delivery experience. However, I always give places a second chance. I ordered it again on Sunday for dinner. My gorditas were fantastic. The queso fundido with corn was tasty, my chips were good. I also ordered the barbacoa, i got my tortillas. It was solid too. I was very pleased with my order when it was correct the second time. Based on the second experience, I would definitely order again.

Ordered some tacos and drinks outside then went in to browse. Our daughter spent a Summer in Oaxaca and it was fun to see many of the things to which she introduced us while visiting. We live right around the corner from El Publito and dig Mexican food, so we thought we would give…read moreit a try one day. Stepping through the front door transports the guest to Mexico City...the bad part of town. There was only one other patron there, who looked like 'The Ugly' from 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly' movie. We approached the order desk (set up to order, then sit and wait for it), and the lady at the front counter didn't even want to make eye contact with us....it was apparent we were NOT welcome there. There were two other ladies cooking behind the counter, in the small kitchen area, and were all eating with their fingers out of this large open air pot which had some sort of meat in it. No gloves were present. The restaurant is connected to a Mexican food store, and a small boy came around the corner and watched us. I was needing a beer at this point, so I asked if they sold beer. She had a puzzled look on her face and rattled off something in Spanish to the kid, who ran next door and asked someone something. He came back and said something to her, which in turn she replied in broken English to us that they did not officially SELL beer, but they had some in a cooler and they could sell us a limited number. Hmm... So we sat down with the menu, in a booth covered in tid bits from another diner or two, smeared with grease in areas (the cleanest table we found). It was tough to concentrate on the menu with Pedro, their pet fly, buzzing my head. It took all of 2 minutes looking at the menu and feeling the bad vibe this place had, to exit the building without saying a word to the staff. They did not try to stop us. Think we dodged a bullet there! So NO, I would NOT recommend this place...other than to the Health Department or Immigration.

The staff was nice and the restaurant was clean with plenty of seating for those dining in. This is one of the only truly authentic Mexican restaurants in the area. I got one each of the asada and pastor tacos, they were fabulous. They come with plenty of onion and cilantro on top, as well as an almost creamy salsa. Zero complaints. I gave the shrimp ceviche a try as well--the flavor was on point, however the avocado had seen better days. The shrimp was still a little gray as well. It was a very generous portion though, for one tostada--definitely not complaining! ;) I'm excited to eat my way through this menu--so, so happy to see more authentic cuisines in the Saint Charles area.

There are several tables on both the grocery store side & restaurant side of the space and while it's "no frills," it's fine for what it is. Bright with a large menu and a case of ice cream flavors from pistachio, to strawberry, to queso ice cream and Mexican popsicles and other sweet & salty goodies! They also have a small selection of refrigerated items such as chorizo (mild & spicy), fresh corn tortillas, tomatillos, and jalapeños. And some shelves of dry goods and religious candles. The star of my dinner was the shrimp ceviche. It was served on a thick tostada that held up to the last bite. The generous portion was bursting with flavors of shrimp, citrus, cilantro & onion and a creaminess from the addition of a little mayo. It was super delish. I'll get this every time. The street tacos were also some of the best I've had (Al pastor & carne asada) and absolutely brimming with the filling. Simple and perfect with the accompanying salsa verde.
