My wife and I have been to Farmer & Frenchman over the years for lunch and always enjoyed it. We decided to go to their "Decade Soirée" dinner, celebrating 10 years of operation. It was a wonderful event with a dish for each year, along with wine pairings. Everything was fantastic. We also stayed in one of their cabins for two nights. We enjoyed breakfast brought to us each morning (thank you Katy!). We got a personal tour of where they grow a variety of delicious mushrooms on premises (thank you Tommy!). We ate lunch and dinner in the restaurant and had excellent service every time. We had fun trying a flight of their estate wines (thank you Hubert!). The food, the wine, the ambiance, and the entire experience were wonderful. It's a beautiful and peaceful location. For a place just 30 minutes from home, we really felt like we were on vacation in France or Napa. Katy and Hubert were wonderful hosts and their staff was terrific. F&F is always amazing. I've been a handful of times and back again recently. Highly recommend reservations (especially on a weekend) as it's a popular spot. Service is always great and any server or staff is happy to help you with whatever you need. They do slightly change their menu seasonally, but everything is delicious! If you are looking for a quiet place to get away from it all, this is it. It is a locally owned winery and a beautiful place to spend a few days. They have 3 cabins that have all the amenities and within walking distance of the cafe and tasting room. We stayed for 2 days a really enjoyed the property and the hospitality of the owners. We also enjoyed a fabulous dinner in the cafe. We had a bottle of the local wine and dinner. My wife ordered a pizza with a Greek Salad which was delicious. I ordered a bowl of Pumpkin Soup, a side of baked bread and a Pork Chop. It was the biggest pork chop I have ever had and the chef cooked it to perfection. Our service was exceptional and really helped make for a most enjoyable dinner. read more

I'm in Kentucky for Birthday Party and my Bestfriends cousin advises that we must try Farmer & Frenchman for dinner. As I am all about a good meal I was all in. Driving up, especially at night can be a bit scary. However, I promise you, it's in the back, and yes it is secluded but there aren't any monsters. LoL! The outside scenery is gorgeous. It has the rustic feel of Midwest charm with the natural landscape of a winery. There are lights hanging all around which make for a great attraction as they guide you into the restaurant from the parking area. When I got there it was about 7pm and it was rocking. The ambiance inside was bright and upbeat. Everyone was engaged at their tables and the staff was all around working hard but still had smiles on their faces. Also, even with all that was going on in the restaurant the space was super clean. Nothing was out of place, and the interior decor has a rustic meets traditional flow that is perfect for any picture worthy moment. We had a party of 6 and were able to be seated immediately. Once seated it was exciting to just look around the entire restaurant and see the smiling faces and great food visuals that were on the table. By this time I was ready to eatttt. LoL! Tiffany arrived at our table and welcomed us in. She was very nice and had the best welcoming tone... After discussing the menu and what the specials were she gave us some time to decide on our order. Appetizers: Garlic Rolls - 4 mini Garlic rolls that put you in the mindset of garlic knots. They were fresh, delicious and such a tease. LoL. Bread - the bread is almost like a toasted pita style bread. It has the design and look of pita but the doughyness of a naan. It was amazing. It comes as one piece and we cut it up to share. Both of the above selections were very good. We ordered the Red and Alfredo sauces for the table as well and they were flavorful. My favorite was the red sauce as it paired well with both breads and carries its own flavor profile that elevated the bread. Main Course: Chicken Parmesan Babeeeeeeeeeeeee... When I say AMAZING!!!!!!!! This dish was spot on made by someone's grandmother who has secured the family recipe for generations. The chicken was encrusted well and perfectly crispy on the outside while remaining moist and juicy on the inside. The cheese to breading ratio was perfect for the chicken breast and didn't overpower the dish. The linguini was tender and well made. The red sauce provided as the balance of the dish as each element had an amazing flavor profile that I enjoyed individually. However, utilizing the sauce, it allowed for the dish to have a flavor mashup that reminded me exactly why this dish is always the King of the Menu on any menu. Farmer & Frenchman was an amazing experience. The food was absolutely flavorly astonishing and Tiffany's service was above standard. We had reservations at Farmer and Frenchman on February 27 and had the best meal! We live near Lexington so I don't get that way very often. My niece was celebrating her 50th birthday, our great nephew was celebrating his 20th birthday and we just had a big ole party there! We all got different meals so we were eating off each other's plates and it truly was a great experience. And omgosh! The cheesecake! We got 2 different pieces of cheesecake and ate on them all weekend. My husband and I arrived early and did a wine tasting and our bartender ending up being our server and she was outstanding. The whole experience was wonderful and we will definitely be back when we are in that area! read more

This place is extremely overpriced! Comically so! We went for the 5 course Valentine's meals. Cost $150 a person without the wine package. Everything took forever! The portion sizes were hilarious! We booked specifically for the Wagyu steak main course. It was a 4 oz chunk of steak with 7 green beans and 1 potato. After 2 hours we went ahead and left before dessert. We hadn't purchased the wine package so we had lemonade and tea. We were chased down by our server as we were leaving and handed a bill for $10 for those 2 drinks. Totally ridiculous. I could have fit everything we ate tonight on one plate. For $150. lol. Everything tasted ok. It wasn't magical by any means so if you have a lot of money, then sure. Go check it out. But if this is meant for a really special occasion where you're saving up for it and you eat like a normal person, do not waste your money!!! read more

Cute restaurant, winery, cabins,event facility. Had a reservation and was seated outside. Service was slow. Food was ok. The only thing we found excellent were the garlic knots. The chicken in the bone dish I had was overcooked. One of our party ordered seafood mushroom caps as an appetizer--I took one bite and the seafood had a bad taste so I didn't eat anymore. The restaurant is pricey. I'm sure had I gotten the $90 steak special it might have been ok. I had to have the waitress quietly take my water as it was delivered to me with an ant or some other type of bug in it. We went at 4:15 so not sure why the food took a long time. The driveway is gravel so if you are going in summer you will need to get a car wash when you leave. I've eaten food at 5 star restaurants and mom and pops. I not only was not impressed, but probably will not return. This was a referral from another winery but one member of our party was told said she couldn't get a wine sampling at the dinner table and had to leave to go to the bar. As she was the only one who drinks, she said no because they said they could not hold our dinner reservations. Perhaps just not for me at the $$$$ price. read more

I treated my sister to Farmer and Frenchman for lunch. It was my first time there. My sister raves about it all the time so I decided to take her for her bday. They had a great selection of wines to choose from. Our waiter was kind enough to bring us some samples. We ended up going with the dressed up cowgirl. For lunch I chose the lasagna. It cane our hot and fresh. They give you a good portion of food. I had enough left over to take with me. I am excited to visit again next time I visit home. read more

This winery is gorgeous. The ambiance is beautiful and something you'd imagine of a winery. I have given this place two opportunities and been at different times to see what it's all about. During my visit today there was a wedding happening outside which made parking a bit hard. The wedding was beautiful. You could sit inside the winery and watch the outside happenings. I am not a fan of their wine. We were immediately seated at a table and not asked if we'd like a tasting. When asked if we could do a tasting our waitress got upset with us. During our tasting, the employee poured our wine and never spoke of the what, why and how comes. The owner was there in the bar and never even spoke a hello. Some people here love this place- me not so much. I want the whole experience. I have now felt unwelcome twice and will never be back. read more

We've been here twice now and LOVE IT! Great ambiance! Food is fresh and unique. I especially LOVE the fresh bread which is similar to a pita but better! I had the salmon croquette salad at our 1st visit. It was probably the best salad I've ever had. I had the chicken pesto sandwich the last time. It was super yummy too, though I wish they added more dried tomatoes. My husband got their burger and really enjoyed it. We live an hour away so we're looking forward to going back next spring so we can sit on the beautiful deck. Our visits this far have been on cold cloudy days. We had a party of 6 with reservations at 7:45 pm. We were seated on the Barn venue which was decorated nicely. Tables were spaced out to where it wasn't crowded. Our waiter was very friendly and made sure our drinks stayed refilled. I had the lasagna that tasted freshly homemade. Apps were the fried mozzarella wedges. I was super excited to try this place, as it came highly recommended from friends. I was greatly disappointed in the burnt eggplant in my eggplant Parmesan. Also the service was awful and there was not a lot of people there to have much of an excuse. Willing to go back, and see if the experience is better. I went back and and really liked the lasagna bolognese. The service was also excellent. We had the blueberry wine and it tasted great. All in all a much better experience. A Journey to the Heart of Mediocrity, Allow me to preface this mild rant by saying that I am very aware that a lot of this is nitpicking. But like most things in life, too much of anything tends to turn things sour.. nitpicking included. Things started lovely enough. The scenery was beautiful and the outdoor seating was comfortable enough. We were brought glasses of waters and our drink orders were taken. A tea for my wife, a Shirley Temple for my daughter, and a good old fashioned Coke for myself. We're not big drinkers, and even less so when wine is the beverage du jour. The waiter was friendly, took our drink order, agreed that we ordered the right appetizer, and eagerly left to put in our order with a smile on his face. Alls well so far. After a solid ten minutes of watching the condensation form an unpleasant puddle of running water on the table I quipped jokingly "perhaps the save coasters for people that order wine". As another ten or so minutes pass the smiling waiter returned with our beverages, a cute Shirley Temple, a wine glass full of caramel colored tea (which was delicious btw), and a 20oz bottle of Coke, the kind you'd buy at a gas station when on a long road trip because road trip calories don't count, so you choose the Coke instead of the water that you know you should be drinking. This is my first point of nitpickery, I don't necessarily mind the 20oz plastic bottle of Coke. I don't even mind the fact that the smiling waiter cracked the seal for me, rendering my 20oz plastic bottle of Coke flat. What I do mind is not being told that their soft drinks come out in a plastic bottle as opposed to being from a fountain. But, no biggie, I'm not a complainer (contrary to how this review may make it seem). I asked for some coasters and asked if we could go ahead and put our order in. The smiling waiter informed us that he wasn't actually our server, our server was busy and he was just helping out. What a nice guy. As time passed, and the condensation puddle from my coasterless water grew our appetizer came out hot and nicely displayed. We ordered the focaccia bread appetizer, and I must say, we made the right choice. Very tasty! With the appetizer finished and the water spilling onto my lap a smiling lady appeared at our table asking if we were ready to order. "ALAS" I though, as we began rattling off our food orders, the child went for the baked ziti pomodoro, the wife went with the ratatouille with risotto, and I ordered the coq au vin with a side of coasters "French" is in the name, and thus French food I shall have! The coasters arrived first, and let me tell you, they were a godsend! A few minutes later the ziti and the ratatouille arrived. The smiling waitress told me she had accidentally put in the duck instead of the coq au vin, so my dish would be a few minutes behind. No big deal whatsoever, I had my beloved coasters, so I was happy. I took the obligatory bite of ziti and was very impressed. It tasted fresh and like care was put into the sauce. I was excited for what was to come. The next bite came from my wife's plate. The excitement faded. The ratatouille was nothing more than a SMALL scoop of oven roasted vegetables (not at all what ratatouille is) and some VERY undercooked risotto. Aye carumba! I won't lie faithful reader, I was shaking in my boots (read: Birkenstocks). My coq au vin arrived just a few minutes late, and to my surprise, it was very tasty and nicely presented. Overall, not the best coq au vin ever, but far from the worst. Quite good. We each ordered a different dessert, each was very good, paid our bill, and left. So, if you're still reading, I leave you with this. The Farmer and the Frenchman was not bad, but they also were not good. Again, I admit, I am nitpicking a bit, but at the same time, there were some odd occurrences that took place which made it impossible to not nitpick. One, maybe two odd occurrences are to be expected, but after a litany of odd occurrences, my nitpicking hand was forced and here I am ranting to you dear reader. The atmosphere was amazing. The service was very friendly, but equal parts strange. The food was a bit all over the place, thusly, a VERY nitpicky 3 stars for the Farmer and the Frenchman. read more

I have been here 2 times now. Reservations are a must, a couple came in without a reservation and it took a while for them to decide if they could seat them although tables weren't full. The menu is small and simple, there are definitely price points to accommodate all on the menu. The first time we had dinner here our waiter was great, very knowledgeable and brought us out wine to taste before we selected our bottle. This time the waitress didn't seam very knowledgeable and wasn't able to answer our questions. If we wanted to do a wine testing before we selected a bottle it was $6 a person. Not sure why the change occurred. The food came out fast, and we enjoyed it. The blackberry wine is one of our favorites here. The atmosphere is nice, food is good but overall service is lacking. read more
