just corked and ready for labeling

This is on a farm road a bit off the beaten track, and shares it's grounds with one of their other passions - horses (not to mention turkeys, ducks etc). Don't let this deter you! We visit many wineries and can count on the fingers of 1 hand the few that we bought so much from as we did here. We've traveled from Tn to Pa 5 times this year, usually stopping at a winery or 2 (or 3!) each trip. We tried calling this place when we were in the Bowling Green area at convenient hours (they have tastings only by appointment). We weren't successful at finding them till this last trip, and are so glad we did! They offer almost 20 bottled wines and occasionally yet-to-be bottled samples. Diane - wife of the wine maker - regales you with the design behind each tasting - which is free, by the way. I was especially enchanted with the 2 wines made with the Moore's Diamond Grape (Silver Streak and Diamonds& Lace) - VERY good. We also picked up a bottle of Norton 2017 (my wife's few red wines she ever liked), Berea Rose (Baco Noir grape), and a couple dessert wines - Cranberry Pleasure and Red Raspberry 2020. The last 2 we were allowed to cork (picture below) and label ourselves.

Reid's Livery & Winery is a hidden gem in Alvaton. Husband and I found it three years ago after attending a wedding in Bowling Green and just went back yesterday since we were in Bowling Green again for a surprise birthday party. The wine selection is plentiful and all made locally. A complimentary tasting from dry to sweet and very reasonable pricing! We took home Elderberry, Strawberry, and two other dry wines that were delicious! The owner is very down to earth and cares that you have a great experience. He said more tourists come by than locals so I encourage more locals to go by and support his business!

I have to say I'm not much of a wine connoisseur but Rex mixed magical grapes that had be loving the flavors.

Ok. So...10 minutes in, I was thinking "2 stars...if they are lucky!" But you know what...? Turns…read moreout they were lucky, so 3 stars it is! Things got a little better and the two wines that are actually under their name/label were surprisingly delicious! Anyway, we were driving back to Louisville from Nashville and the Fella filled me with joy when he said we could stop at a couple wineries on the way. Not only is it a great way to break up the monotonous drive, but it allowed me to try more Kentucky wineries (like a Pokemon, I wanna try 'em all!). Cave Valley Winery was the right distance between the first place we stopped and getting home, so we decided this would be our final boozy-stop on the way. It is easy to get to, just a small loop off the highway at the Park City exit. It was a strange first impression when we got there, though. The winery isn't so much a winery, as it is a room inside an old hotel that also operates as the site's regular bar. They were also getting ready for a Ladies' Shooting competition to be held on the weekend, there were lots of gun signs and promotional booths and tents set up and sponsor banners. We weren't initially sure that we were at the right place...maybe some of the banners were covering the winery sign? Also...guns and alcohol...what could go wrong, amirite? It was strange. When we walked in to the bar, there were two people futzing around with the register iPad and a printer. It took a bit before we were greeted, and when we were, they both mentioned that they were not the tasting host and would go get her. While she was being retrieved, we were able to look over the wine list and the woman at the bar got us started with our first sample, though she admitted she didn't really know anything about the wines. Once the usual wine tasting host, Amber, came in we were ready to lock and load. (Get it...because of the gun range...no? Ok.) You get 5 samples for $5. But be aware, they only have TWO wines under their own label. The two they have are surprisingly delicious, if I do say so myself. As for the rest of the two-page wine list, they are all wines from Wight-Meyer, which is not one of my favorite places either. So that was a little disappointing. And they were out of a few of the wines I wanted to taste. Amber was pretty alright though, with some information on tasting notes. But she was minutes from the end of her shift and asked that we close out right away. Which was fine, we needed to get on the road again anyway. Overall, I am conflicted. It was a weird experience, but their wines are decent and once Amber got to our tasting, all was well. But temper your expectations if you are a winery-hopper like me. (If I was feeling more generous, I would give another star just for all the puppers roaming about....but really, 3 stars is where its at.)

Fun, unique experience for horse lovers…read more Overall great, but this is a review so I'll start with the good, then get to the "could be better." 1) It's beautifully set up. The barn is clean, pretty, and has special spots for pictures and retail. Music is going and the videos are being played on the tv above the tasting station. 2) locally & woman owned business! Nuff said. 3) greeted by an 8 week old puppy during our visit, which was very fun, more entertaining than the horses IMO. 4) The owner takes the time to learn about what she's giving you to taste and drink, which is nice! 5) Great picture taking opportunities! 6) we had to reschedule because of a family emergency of one of the party members, and the owner was incredibly easy to work with to make sure we could still attend without losing any money or the experience. Customer service was great. Could make a better experience: Price - $60 seemed fair for something unique but then you add on the fees/taxes and it's $74.25 per person, not sure where that additional ~$15 goes but I'd be much more inclined to return if there's a way to pay without the additional fees. (Also, website descriptions say $55 then the price is $60 - fix to match increase.) We definitely thought there would be more to do with the horses. Even if customers can't do something, maybe show off any tricks or special things the horses to make it more about the Equine than the Wine! Overall, if you love horses and are looking for something different to do in Nashville, this is it! M2 has different options between brunch, bourbon, wine, and even olive oil tastings on a beautiful piece of land in Goodlettsville.

Merle, Wyatt and Hank (horses) were our hosts, along with Laura and Maddison. Whiskey sampling, charcuterie, wine and champagne tasting; all with a kick-back, no pressure atmosphere. Highly recommended.
