I once got custard tarts that expired a couple of days before the day I bought but was ok with it as it was the best before date and wasn't too far and also was in the fridge. Lots of hype around this chain, thought we'd check it out. Pros: Produce was reasonably priced. The store appeared clean. We found Moroccan olives (hard to find in Canada), venison salami (big score), gooseberries (not easy to find everywhere). There were lots of snack food/processed items including baked goods. Meat counter was good but not our preferred choice of cuts. Cons: We were trailed THROUGHOUT by a security guard. We are not "regulars" and maybe looked like "undesirables"/sarc. It felt weird and very uncomfortable. The fish counter was grim. Counter guy was texting, no customers waiting. Slim pickings, very basic variety of fish. The haddock looked a bit grey to me ... I asked when it had come in and he said "I think 2 or 3 days ago". Huh?! Hard pass on the fish counter which is the basis of our diet. Honestly it did not turn our cranks. It's ok for the larger demographic as it were. Forget about finding Chinese greens or vegetables here. The coffee offerings were slim! Didn't even have Van Houttes! Very few brands of coffee available. Meh. I'll stick to T&T and H-Mart. At least they have a good variety of fish and other familiar delights. read more

I was driving over to The Empanada Company and my head turned seeing this Farm Boy. I had heard about its grand opening months ago, but was never in this part of town to drop by. After my visit to fetch some empanadas, I drove over to get some groceries. This Farm Boy location is the closest one to my workplace. It makes taking Highway 427 straight down to this location easy. If you are a fan of this franchise, it is set up the same way. You hit the produce section immediately when you first walk in, with the snacks, beer, and various dips next door. I love the swinging gorilla. It brings joy to me as I shop. This store is exceptionally busy with shoppers. Some of them seem to not know to move off to the side when they are blocking an entire aisle simply standing there like rocks. It was odd. It happened to me a good four time during my brief stay here. I needed to get some celery. It's crazy how expensive it is these days. However, I liked how healthy and fresh the celery was. The vegan selection continues to grow. I got a small tub of Yummy Doh raw cookie dough in banana chocolate. I like the flavours. There is more sugar in it than I like. It has both regular and brown sugars that goes for $8. There were also tons of vegan cookies and meatless protein options. The hot foods area looked amazing. The bakery section gets my two thumbs up. I got a box of s'mores bars hat was fifty cents off. They are delicious! The cashier who helped me with my purchases asked if I needed a plastic bag. I was good and happily walked with my items to my car. I paid using a debit card. There is plenty of parking in this plaza. I got a decent parking spot at around 4:30 pm on a Saturday afternoon. It does get busy, so bring your patience. I am pleased that Etobicoke now has a Farm Boy. I am used to a more relaxed experience shopping around at the ones in Pickering, Whitby, and Waterloo, though. Customers here seem to be less friendly and more interested in themselves, which dampened my experience. In front of the store, there were two boys representing the Navy League of Canada. They were in uniform and had collection boxes. They didn't say a peep to anyone going into the store. Coming out of the store, I made a donation and said hi. Both of them said nothing. I first heard of Farm Boy from my niece who works at one in Ottawa. She loves working there preparing foods. So I had to get to one eventually. This location did not disappoint. Bright, spacious (but not a large store), friendly people working there plus just a great selection of good food. I am a sucker for good premise sauces. I also grabbed some wild caught fish, organic chicken and organic f&v. Organic berries were priced similarly to my local Longos. I don't think I can offer much of a incite to this store, that others have already not touched on. I heard that farm boy was coming to my neighborhood, and it was something I've always heard about, but very much in the back of my mind. I had zero idea what the store was about. forgot about it for a bit, and then someone told me it was opening...I thought great, might be something to check out. I ended up changing routes for my trip on the way home daily from work, so from the march 2018 opening date until lets say October, the plaza was packed full of people, getting in and out of the plaza was less then ideal, so I avoided coming to this place based on that. on January 26th, I was thinking at work "what am I doing for dinner" so I settled on sausage, but I wanted to have buns. by the time I got to the area from work, everywhere was closed except for one store that was out of my way completely. so I settled for farm boy to try it out. upon walking in I noticed that a monkey was swinging on a vine in the middle of the produce section, I actually laughed over that, nice touch right off of the bat. very bright, very clean, and somewhat spacious, you have ample room to walk around, but every piece of space is used wonderfully. I came in for buns, and left with 50 dollars of groceries, things that I cant find in other stores, garlic lemon hummus? venison? Arrabbiata sauce??(my regular grocery store doesn't do this) a couple of other goodies. I made sure to take a good walk of this location, just to see all that is available, the seafood selection is simple but amazing, they have an awesome hot table section with seating area, and something I've never seen before in a grocery store, a stir-fry station, with an attendant. one thing I noticed in my walking around is that all of the employees were joyvial, laughing, and just full of energy. a very refreshing change from other non farm boy stores I have visited. very happy with my experience and the quality of food that I brought home was unreal. would go out of my way to come back to this location. lots of parking at this location, and transit options are the 15 evans bus. read more

Farm Boy is my new go to place for groceries. The store is a bit small but they have a great selection of veggies and meats, along with some specialty sauces and store made products which are all excellent quality! I haven't been disappointed with any of their products yet and they also have a lunch counter where you can get a great meal for a reasonable price. Prior to covid I went all the time for their stir fry bowl which was about $10, very healthy and delicious! If you've never been it's worth a visit as I find some of their prices are better than other "cheaper" grocery stores. read more

3.5 stars ... if you treat this more as a true grocery store and not the Trader Joe's the media have been pushing, it's a great spot. The media truly hyped this spot with it's phrase of "Canadian Trader Joe's". For all those who know about Trader Joe's, you know thats the awesome spot in the USA to find super affordable and great house brand snacks, cheeses, drinks, alcohol (2 buck chuck anyone? ugh), and did I mention snacks?? With that in mind, I came to Farm Boy and realized it's not a Trader's Joe. Rather it's a step up from a regular grocery store but certainly not in the same pantheon as Trader Joe's. The size is similar to a Longo's. So you can do all your shopping here if you wanted and it has enough variety. With a focus on local and organic, I can appreciate the enthusiasm from other reviews. If I were very focused on only sourcing organic, this would be a great spot as the organic is not a 2 ft by 2 ft spot in a corner somewhere. There is a lot of fruit and vegetable offerings in addition to a decent butcher area. Looking at the prices, it sits somewhere in the Loblaws price range for normal organic ... I do have to admit one thing, the items here look better than some of the wilted items at Loblaws. One thing that Farm Boy takes on that other places don't do very well... the ready made items. Nearly a quarter of the floor space is dedicated to their pre-made salads, sandwiches, sushi, deli, pasta, soup, and pizza area. Looking at the condition of everything, nothing looks gross but some things were looking at little aged. I guess you can't expect too much when it's 2 hour before close. Judging the weight of some items, your take out meal can easily hit over $15. For just take out, it does give me pause but if it's made with only organic items... maybe it's worth it. Though I never saw signage that spelled that out. As for the organization of the store... full kudos. It's clean, it's bright, it's well spaced, and at 7 pm in the evening, there's enough parking that it feels like a regular suburbia store. Lastly... the snacks. This is what brought me here to Farm Boy originally. It's safe to say the small area is definitely a smaller footprint than a Trader Joe's. Sure they had some interesting few items like the Farm Boy maple chocolate covered nuts but it was really a few shelves. Definitely not the eye catching and hunger inducing offering of the Trader Joe's. So if you're looking for a locally focused grocery store, this would be a good spot to check out. Seeing how the parking lot is small and the other reviews say it's mayhem during the day, perhaps check out during the evening. When I heard about Farm Boy and that it was opening up in Toronto, I knew I had to check this place out. You see I'm a huge fan of Trader Joes. And while I have reluctantly accepted that we may never get a Trader Joes here in Canada, I was excited to hear that there is a reasonable alternative already available in Canada. I think the best way to describe Farm Boy is that it is like a Whole Foods crossed with Trader Joes. You get the freshly prepared foods and hot and cold food bars as at Whole Foods, but also many of the reasonably priced organic and healthier produce and packaged items similar to what one can find at a Trader Joes. Looking for zucchini spirals? Premium almond milk? Amazing lemon garlic vinaigrette? Organic or wheat alternative flours? Pecan butter tarts? Organic produce? Farm Boy has all that! Conveniently located close to the highway, Farm Boy has a an impressive selection of organic, local, and vegan options. If I lived closer to this store, I'd probably avail myself of the fresh made food, hot table food options, salads, deli, pizza making and stir fry to order options. I was overwhelmed by the plentiful selection of cheeses in their cheese and deli section. I bought the small batch hazelnut gelato because it looked interesting and like something Whole Foods would sell for at least 1.5 times the price. I walked away with 2 bagfuls of groceries for $36. Not a bargain but not the whole pay check that I've come to occasionally spend at Whole Foods. I look forward to returning with the hubby to sample more of the freshly prepared food. read more

Really great to have this variety and option in the area. Clean, lots of parking. There was never a reason to visit this mall before Farm Boy (boring Dollar store, not much else..). I will mention; a relatively medium sized salad was over 10 bucks. Plus a medium sized butter chicken/mac n cheese also expensive. The salads are decent, also costly. Got up bright and early to go to opening day to get my FREE $20 gift card cause #YOLO. I liked the variety and prices too. Lots of chicken and turkey sausages...but just to confirm, no chicken apple sausages...yet. Good gluten free items as well. There is fresh, affordable produce (from near and far and organic and non). I normally don't get pre-made food cause it's pricey but when you have a whole $20 to spend, why not. I got their stuffed mushrooms and hot damn they were good. 2 for $5 and stuffed with rice, sausage, cheese and potentially love. Threw them in the oven at home and they were delicious. I Highly recommend them. There's also ready to eat food a la Whole Foods style. I think it's about $2.19/100 grams - not sure how that compares to whole lotta dollars foods but I'm assuming it's cheaper. Is anything more expensive than Whole Foods? Like aside from a Tesla? Farm Boy does breakfast and lunch at the pay by weight buffet/salad bar. Breakfast looked great with eggs, potatoes, sausages, bacon, wraps, beans etc. Then there are pizza, sushi and stir fry stations. You can have your cake (and well whatever you want) and eat it too...cause what else would you do with cake? Sayings...am I right? My family and I just had our first precooked Farmboy meal, I chose ham over the turkey. It was delightful! I picked it up 2.5 hours before dinner time and my sister followed their printed instructions on reheating it. The box was solid and heavy! We feasted on ham with an amazing glaze, chive mashed potatoes, green beans, carrots and stuffing. There was a cream sauce included which some used, I did not as the hams taste stood alone in my opinion. There was a couple of surprises included but we had ordered a cake from a baker that my husband works with. There was more than enough to feed 6-7 eaters. Next time, we shall try the turkey! Farm Boy is located at the large strip mall at the south east corner of Brown's Line and Evans Ave basically at the bottom of the 427. For months my wife was telling me to check out Farm Boy as she went a while back and she came home complimenting the store and saying that I'd love it if I went. I mean sure I like grocery stores because well we all need food right? I don't eat out as often as some people and my wife is a great cook and likes to mix things up so having great ingredients and quality food is a must in our household. For basics we have Chris' No Frills nearby which is also the closest grocery store too. For drinks and snacks and some great deals I also go to the local Shoppers Drug Mart at the East Mall and Rathburn. For more diverse shopping and selection the Loblaws at East Mall and Burnhamthrope has been the go to for a variety of things and for bulk we've been going to Costco at Dundas and Dixie for a while. I have to say, since going to Farm Boy on a day off with my wife this place has changed the way I will shop for certain things. Mind you I said certain things and not all things. The place is much smaller and compact than some of the larger big chain stores. My coworker told me that Farm Boy was bought by Sobey's and they've been expanding aggressively. After speaking to other coworkers I've learned that there are Farm Boys already in new locations or there will be new locations popping up. Oakville already has one, Burlington and St. Catharines have their stores being built now. This place is really on their way to being a big player in the grocery game. I mention the expansion of Farm Boy because originally I was under the impression that they were just a small chain or group with only a few stores. It became sort of evident after my first visit that this was no small group or chain. I came to this conclusion because of the products they stock and the home brand which has much presence on premises. Farm Boy has MANY of their own product branded as Farm Boy, not for a mass consumption group name like President's Choice or Our Compliments but Farm Boy. Who knows, maybe this brand will present themselves in their Sobey's sister stores down the road? The fact that they have their gelato, bacon, hot dogs, pre packaged sausages, a fish bar, butcher with a variety of fresh made burgers. They have a sushi bar with on premises made and packaged sushi boxes, a pizza oven, hot tables, take home self serve hot and cold food, paninis and so on. This place has a lot of variety and has a mix of ready made hot and cold food as well. That may not be a new idea but Farm Boy does it better in some aspects. Now I'm not really huge on grocery store sushi but yes from time to time I will get say a roll and eat it for lunch either the day of or the next day. I ended up getting a spicy tuna roll to have on the weekend and I have to say that is was definitely the best take home grocery sushi I've had. That may not sound like a lot but the quality of the fish was great. It was a very deep red tuna, the rice still stayed soft and even the ginger wasn't that pink tasteless stuff but actually the snappy orange kind that stings. That's just their sushi. Now as far as burgers go if I'm BBQ'ing I'm not getting burgers anywhere else ever again. Costco? Sure they're good for frozen and their big patties in the fresh section are ok but these ones at Farm Boy are out of this world. The variety of flavors for the stuffed/mixed burgers is truly a game breaker and that is what I mean when I say the way I will shop has changed because I'm not buying BBQ burgers elsewhere, period. The varieties I've tried to date are the blue/double bacon, cheddar/double bacon (both beef), Buffalo Chicken and Thai Turkey. There are another 8 or so beef varieties to choose from as well. The choices are amazing and while they may not have the variety of meat like what Whitehouse has in St. Lawrence market, these at Farm Boy are FRESH made the day off and not frozen. The difference is night and day as these burgers are top notch quality and taste. On top of that Farm Boy makes a variety of fresh buns to select from as well. They even have a small craft beer section. I really like Farm Boy's model and quality of their home branding of what I've tried so far. I've been to many Farm Boys grocery shopping. All amazing, clean, FRESH produce with lots of selection. However the Faem Boy at Yonge and Soudan is worse thank any discount store I've entered. First, all produce was old, gone bad and obviously hand touched during Covid "hand bagged grapes" on sale? no clementines, kiwis were so dried up I thought it was a huge raisin! The deli counter had 3 portions of ready to go food (from days before), but lots of staff looking at the empty space at 930am on a Sunday. One type of pasta? One type of chicken fingers? One type of pizza? No greek yogurt? Jammed packed with likely 200 over the limit. line up of all 8 cash registers and line up of 25 people deep in each line. I'm calling Doug Ford task force as this is just a pool for a virus to spread. Unbelievabl, ruined my farm boy shopping experience. I've been to loblaws a few times and their produce was moldy and I told the staff there and they did nothing. I have been frequenting the store more often since the COVID 19 stuff and must say I am so impressed by what this store is doing to protect its customers and staff. They have gone above and beyond with keeping things clean - they were sterilizing their carts before any other stores, have already installed splash guards for their cashiers - even though they were clean to begin with. Well, just about the most perfect grocery store I have encountered. Prices were reasonable, the place was immaculate, and there were plenty of friendly, helpful staff. Not massive like a Loblaws, yet with everything you need. Really nice bakery section, pizza station, and meat counter with actual service everywhere you turn. Farm Boy is not "high end" simply because it is not overpriced and stuffy. It is more "first class". Quality products, excellent service... simply a sensational store. read more

I love this place. It's a smaller yet cheaper version of Whole Foods. I would not call it the Canadian version of Trader Joe's though. The branded and packaged groceries (i.e. pasta, cereal, oatmeal, etc.) are about the same price as Real Canadian Superstore, but where Farm Boy wins out is that they have their own branded items that appear to be all organic. In addition, their hot food section is really good for a grocery store. They have a wood fire pizza oven, a stir fry station, salad bar and a hot bar. I've had the pizza from their Kitchener location and it is really good. From this location, I chose from the hot bar and there were plenty of vegan options. I remember getting multiple types of curry, a General Tao chicken variation and some rice. It was very tasty. It's also cheaper than Whole Foods at $2.19/100g. The only thing that is missing is that there aren't many unprepared vegan options you can buy here (they have plenty of fresh meat, none frozen) as they don't have freezers. Verdict: Great for hot food and packaged foods and probably fresh meat (I can't tell, but there was a huge lineup when I went, so I assume it is pretty good). read more

I really like this grocery store, I just wish it wasn't so far. They have a great selection of organic food and farm boy branded products which are priced reasonable. What I love most about farm boy is that their labels have an indication of whether they are vegetarian or vegan. This has cut down on my shopping time. It's so easy to pick out vegan products. The aisles are kept clean and the shelves are always fully stocked. Hopefully they will open up a location in York region. read more

A grocery store that was desperately needed in the Long Branch/South Etobicoke area! They have a great produce section, awesome Farm Boy brand/made dressings, and lots of interesting finds! I love the Fauxmagerie Zengarry vegan spreads they carry, and I also love that each time I visit, they seem to have more vegan items. The hot table/counter area has a lot of options and things are conveniently labelled very well! The staff are super nice and really helpful, which makes it easy to love coming to Farm Boy to do my regular shopping! read more

Farm boy had it goodn'. I came here cuz ma told me there's sum up yonder north of here, and it so happen that it was its first Saturday open. Hoooo weeee, was it PACKED with people from all round! As for prices it was reasonable as I heard that all of its products are grown in Ontario with PLENTY of organic food stuffs and all sorts of hearty meats red, dark, seasoned etc. but it mind boggling how many people there was... lots of options for take out food. To name a few things that you can take out: paninis (grilled on the spot), many healthy salads, pastas, pizzas, soups, and much more! I definitely will come back to shop more in depth especially after having a sample of this "Nupasta" that's pasta made from a plants root called Kognac, it sounds like the liquor, con-yeea-aak... something of that nature. For you hardcore carnivores there flinstone steaks with bones so big that you can use it as a handle! I could go on but there's too much to say! read more
