I had to perform a crown build out for a root canal. I emailed and called the office twice before someone got to me. I guess they didn't accept new patients at that time or the dentist was on vacation. Once I was able to get connected to a live person (two weeks later!) I was provided with an estimate which was nearly 2X more than my regular dentist! I was referred to this dentist by a trusted source, and they pointed out that she's super meticulous. While Dr. Alavi and her staff are extremely kind people, I cannot refer other patients to Dr. Alavi's office for dental services. My 1-star review is for two reasons: 1) Dr. Alavi is not skilled at handling patients with dental anxiety, and will even discount dental trauma in a way I found to be quite patronizing; and 2) my new dentist confirmed Dr. Alavi's approach to treatment was extraneous, and that the treatment she indicated I needed immediately (e.g., a $500 mouthguard and multiple cavities) were in no way necessary at this time. Remember that dentistry is business too. We want to be able to trust our doctors, and I don't feel that Dr. Alavi is doing right by her patients. read more

Dr Alavi & her Staff are AWESOME. I'm a left brained silicon valley type...and I notice the little details every time I go to a doctor or dentist. I gotta say..Dr Alavi & her Team deserve an applause. Why do they rock? Well, for one I just had a change of insurance and wasn't sure whether my plan was an HMO or PPO. I called her office and Dr Alavi's Staff got my info..and handled everything else. Next, I go in for my filling (running a few minutes late)..I'm greeted with a smile...taken to the dentists' chair and the Staff applied a light ointment to my gum where they were going to give me the anesthetic in a few minutes. It tasted like Pina Colada...and guess what...it made all the difference. No pain at all. Thats brilliant! And of course for the coupe de grace Dr Alavi again wowed me with her wonderful service. The devil is always in the details...did the dentist communicate each step of the way? Was she gentle, yet on point with each stroke of the drilling machine? Was she detail oriented? Did she get my bite down perfect? Did she make sure the whole procedure felt right every step of the way? YES..she DID! Hence Dr Alavi & her Staff deserve 5 Stars. Great dentist and very friendly staff. I've been coming for a couple years and Dr.Alavi was great. I've had a crown plenty of fillings done, and a night guard fitting. She did an amazing job and always makes sure you don't feel any pain. Cleanings are great too, and their office keeps track of the gap in your gums (where food can get stuck) which I haven't seen other dentists do. read more

I love dr. Alavi, she is such a caring and a professional doctor. Sitting in her chair is as good as it can get when it comes to dentists: pain free treatment, extremely considerate of how you are doing and if you feel ANY discomfort. Her staff is also very attentive, efficient and caring. The whole atmosphere of Dr. Alavi's office is relaxing and comforting, and the end results are fantastic, I couldn't be more pleased with them! The only reason I'm giving a 4 star review is that sometimes it's hard to reach the office and make the appointment, since the doctor and her team work 4 days per week, exchanging Mondays or Fridays off. My first dentist as a child was a sadist and a fraud. He would withhold the Novocaine and still charge for it. My second dentist was ok, but he retired in a manner that was dishonest to maximize his gain. My opinion of dentists was very low. I have been going to Dr Alavi's office for 7 years. Have nothing but wonderful things to say about Dr Alavi and her dental Hygienists, She is a pleasure to work with and extremely detail orientated. Dr Alavi is caring and professional. She really does great work However the last few years, I saw a lot of turnover over there. When it comes to scheduling, billing and customer service. My experience has not been good. The receptionist is not organized, always forget things, often call last minute to schedule, then cancel. She is friendly but can barely get anything done. Insurance info was not updated even after I gave it to her multiple times. I would get a call one year later asking why insurance rejected the payment, well because you never updated the insurance info. One time I ask for my receipt (Phone calls and emails all went unanswered for weeks until my husband showed up at their office for service). Recently my husband changed employer, there are still funds in FSA. I asked the receptionist to use the funds to pay for previous services Dr Alavi performed months ago (I never see the bill) . She promised over the phone that she will get it done the same day -- forgot it again, We only found out after the card expired. My husband and I are likely to continue seeing Dr Alavi because of her outstanding work but I just hope she put some emphasis on the business side of the things, and recognize customer experience is key to the success. She will even politely ask you to get out and go elsewhere if you don't completely concede to her whims on what all procedures to do on your teeth.
