This review is for Invisalign specifically. Cleanings were gentle and fine, and she's honest about what treatment you need - doesn't try to make you get unnecessary work on your teeth. However, long story short, when my Invisalign attachments were removed, they were removed incorrectly - using an incorrect tool/burr. The front side of teeth are supposed to be rounded and my six of my incisors were completely shaved flat on the front - too much enamel was taken off. As a dentist, preserving enamel should be of utmost importance and I really don't understand how this could have happened, especially if Invisalign is offered here and attachments are a pretty standard part of treatment. I've gotten my teeth examined by another dentist and have confirmed that excess enamel was taken off. You cannot repair enamel, especially to this degree. This is now something I now have to live with for the rest of my life. Extremely disappointed. read more

I tried to inquire about a simple dental filling without insurance. I was immediately told they don't serve people without insurance, I explained to the owner I had no issue paying upfront and was just told they were overbooked. After reading other Yelp reviews about several dentists, I decided to see Dr. Lu. More impressive was her attitude of embracing technology so that everything was efficient, painless and in less time. She concurred with my previous dentist that an implant would be needed but the price was significantly less. I broke a piece off a molar and need to see Dr. Lu a week after my cleaning and this was painless and a crown put on a week later. I called her Wonder Woman because she was the best dentist I have ever had. I wouldn't call her chatty but she explains her opinions and recommendations. I called the office and was able to schedule an appointment for the next day. Nice! Unlike some private practices, my appointment began exactly at the time it was scheduled. Zero wait time! I went to Dr. Lu for the first time yesterday. My previous dentist was very good, but every time they charged too much and I had to call them and correct the bill (happened three times). Dr. Lu and her staff (Rea) try to get the best out of pocket price for me and a detailed explanation of the bill. I was able to get an appointment within an hour of when I called and there was no wait time. She did cleaning and some fillings in very short time and I am very pleased with the result. Dr. Lu & Staff are great! They make you feel conmortable right when you walk in the door. Staff talk to you as if they are your friend instead of just telling you what they are planning to do for your appointment. They actually take the time and converse with you asking how are you, where your originally from, and you jusy want to continue talking forgetting your sitting in a dental chair. The staff lets you know every move they make instead of wondering what they are doing next. Dr. Lu comes and puts the chair back and you see on the ceiling is cute little stufffed animals to greet you and make you feel comfortable and I automatically smile. A great and comfortable environment for all ages. Dr Lu's staff is great at reminding me of my appointments. Dr. Lu is very knowledgeable and genuinely cares for the health of our teeth. She's not the type to recommend a procedure unless you really need it. I also don't get nervous going because she is gentle on my gums unlike some other dentists I've gone to (who actually numbed my gums before cleaning). Going to the dentist is not scary anymore. Especially for children. I've never seen and unhappy kid there. Most of them are either happily sitting in the waiting room watching a cartoon movie or calmly getting their cleaning. I learned of Dr. Lu through one of those promotional letters certain doctors send; they normally irritate me, but hers was pleasant and I was new to the neighborhood. I was so pleased with my visit to the dentist. I was eight months pregnant, and she took the time to make me comfortable in the seat. They would inform me that removing my wisdom teeth would benefit me in the long run, but I was always hesitant. I would always say, "maybe next time, not now." Since relocating to the Santa Clara area, I was in search of a primary dental office. That's when I found Dr. Pauline Lu's Dental Office. Dr. Lu and her staff are wonderful! Rea, the front desk receptionist, is friendly and takes the time to explain all you need to know. She welcomes all clients that walk in the office with a big smile. The first time I met Dr. Lu, she took the time to learn about my expectations and goals for my dental health. She shares important information that helps me make an informed decision. Dr. Lu's initial approach and attitude made a positive impact in considering her as a primary dentist and trust her professionalism. My confidence in Dr. Lu and her staff gave me the decision to FINALLY have my wisdom teeth pulled out! But prior to confirming a date to have the procedure done, I was extremely nervous and hesitant. I couldn't decide whether to go through with it all. I was conflicted because I was not experiencing any discomfort at the present time, yet I did not want to endure any possible complications in the long run. Dr. Lu made sure I was aware of all the details for the procedure and mentioned she would do all she can to make me feel comfortable. I was such at ease that I did not even realize that both my wisdom teeth were eventually extracted. No bleeding, swelling, or other complications! I was amazed that I tolerated the procedure well. Dr. Lu did a fantastic job! She really meant what she said when she assured me that I was going to be comfortable! Overall, everything turned out better than expected! There was no need for me to take any pain medications at all (although I was anticipating pain). No abnormal bleeding or swelling and I was able to eat normally again the following day. I felt fine that I had to brag to others that I was nervous over nothing. It was a successful experience! And, I am satisfied that I chose Dr. Lu as my primary dental care provider! Great dentist for the whole family! Our whole family comes here and we've been patients for 10 years. My 2 kids think going to Dr. Lu's is like going to a party... "can't wait to get the goody bags"! That's a nice bonus... they get kiddie toothbrushes, toothpaste, and a little toy. Dr. Lu makes it very fun for the kids, from kiddie movies (you can even bring your own!), stuffed animals, to her friendly demeanor. Dr. Lu is always patient and the whole office is friendly and professional. They always send an electronic reminder, and are courteous if you need to reschedule. I havd Invisalign done here, and she threw in a teeth-whitening product. She gives you all your options, and would not push treatment on you. She tells you what is reasonable and fair, and recommends good options. All their X-Ray is hooked up electronically, so she can view your X-Ray results immediately on the big screen. Then she shows it to you and explains what she's looking at. Great technology! That big screen is also hooked up to the DVD player, which is view-able from the dental chair... so when she's working on my son, he is distracted (yay) with the movie so she can get the cleaning done. Over the weekend, my son had a dental emergency. I emailed the staff and they responded twice (over the weekend!), and scheduled something for us on Monday morning. She is more than kind and able to accommodate. We have recommended Dr. Lu to many of our friends and family, and everyone loves Dr. Lu! read more

Dr. Lu is one of those rare dentists that actually works for the patient. My previous dentist, and many others unfortunately, think about their clinic like a business. They want to make as much money as possible. The patient comes second. I've been a patient of Dr. Lu for 3 years. She is fantastic. She does everything herself. She takes the time to explain and is very patient. She never pushed a procedure on me, not even when I was the one suggesting it. Her approach is to seek the best of the client, not the best of her pocket. She spent hours reviewing and perfecting my Invisalign, unlike most dentists who simply accept what the software decides. She also takes notes of sensitive areas in my mouth, so when she cleans up my teeth, she is extra careful around those areas. This is what separates the pro from the rest. Her clinic is in an older building, but she has very modern equipment. She is so sterile that she covers her equipment with special plastic covers. Those are removed before using the equipment, and disposed. She replaces them after each use. I've never seen any dentist do that.
