Farah is a sweetie and so very personable, she always asks about what's going on with friends I've mentioned and how my motorcycling is, even when I've haven't cut my hair in over a year. My ex-boyfriend continues to see her even after we broke up 10 year ago. She's truly a gem and shares tidy bits of interesting hair knowledge along the way (e.g. some people's hair just doesn't hold length!). My worst experience with this hair salon here in Bay Ridge I'm was embarrassed going outside with my hair. They just colored, washed , and then told me go home and come back because we got busy. This was not the real reason. The reason was because I wore mask while she was coloring my hair. Also she left and her mother got to finish my coloring because Farah's daughter got offended after I did wear the mask. After they spoke in the back with each other they told me to leave and come back. I'm was waiting for 3 hrs, not accepted what they did to me. I've been coming to Farah for 8 years, her salon is a place where you get that "small town" feeling, where everyone who goes to her comes back and she knows almost all the neighborhood. Owned and managed by Farah, she also does most of the styling, and does it very well. I love my cuts (I am a 30-something woman) and even had her do my wedding party and keep going back even though I live away from the area now. I've also seen her work wonders with men and older women. Her other stylist, Lauren, is lovely, and her daughter now helps out, so it's a family affair. How do you not listen to your client when she tells you she understands her own hair and tells you how to apply heat..my hair is very thin, it can get really curly but it can get really straight when blow dried. You cannot work or own a hair salon and not know different hair textures. Please listen to your clients I do my own hair I just needed a cut .I style and dry hair myself and have worked with lots of hair textures. You people honestly need to LISTEN to your clients. I am really bummed to leave a negative review. I had a cut over the weekend from Giana and despite the positive feedback for Farah, I will not be coming back to this salon. 1 star for the ease of booking an appointment and 1 star for being budget-friendly. I brought in several photos of different views of the same cut on the same person and discussed the look I wanted with Giana. It was basically a trim of my previous cut, a chin-length bob. I walked out with a much different cut than discussed that was not well-executed (uneven layers, stray longer hairs, and random texturizing) and a large razor burn on my neck hairline (!!!). Giana was pleasant, but I think shorter haircuts are not her strength. I will be getting another cut elsewhere soon to fix this haircut. read more

As a medical student, my hair is falling out at an incredible rate. Thus, I am a bit limited in the amount of cash I am willing to spend on the rest of it. Im not spending $80 on hair that I am not sure will even be around the next month!!! With this in mind, I searched pretty long and hard in my neighborhood for a good hair salon with reasonable pricing. Farah's was the best deal. My first time, I was a bit hesitant--let's face it, its not the same modern, sparkly design that neighboring salons have. Yet, don't be fooled by the appearance. Jackie (I have never had a cut from Farah, just coincidentally I suppose) has the most amazing talent and skills for hair. I was blown away by my first cut and styling, and got so many compliments that night. What is the best testiment to a good cut, is that 6-8mo later, I didn't really need a cut at all!!! All the layers fell amazingly and I still got compliments and people asking if I got my hair styled recently. I have been back several times, not because my hair has started to look shabby but because I just love the feeling of a great cut. I think this is the one place I will miss the most if I were to move away from this area. Oh, also I think it helps to get a sense of the age, and style of hair that was cut: so I am mid-20s, and get a long layered cut with shorter framing around the face. Farah may be able to cut hair good BUT NEVER EVER EVER trust this woman's salon to dye... specifically bleach your hair. I asked for an ombre and her worker bleached half of my head all the way to the root and the other half by my ear, I seriously think she may have been on drugs. There is no way all of her workers are licensed because my hair came out looking like a teenager's first shot at trying to do an ombre. I'm absolutely disgusted at the salon and how Farah handled the situation. Never going back here and definitely warning everyone I know in the neighborhood. read more

i usually dont care about hair cuts or where i cut my hair. The only time i do get it cut, is when the ends are too dead to even style it.. i also get my hair cut by different people all the time.. not loyal to one place.. until now that is. I don't understand what all the negative reviews are about. I travel from Manhattan to Bay Ridge to see Farah. My hair dresser retired without notice and I was highly recommended to Farah. It is well worth the trip to Brooklyn! She is an amazing hair dresser. I have very short hair and I have been able to go longer between haircuts because she does such a great job with the cut. My color is better and lasts longer too. Farah herself is extremely professional and just a lovely human being. She is very accommodating and now cuts my husband's hair too. Now that Farah has moved her Salon to 81 Street I may have to travel a little further up the avenue but its well worth it. The new store is more spacious and bright. The atmosphere is the same, friendly and comfortable. As far as service, I can get an appointment the same day. Farah takes care of my hair, she lets me know when I need to cut it to get rid of dead ends and when I need a full head of highlights. Farah's was recommended to me by one of my neighbors when I lived in Bayridge. I went and truly loved how she works/the outcome. Why? Budget-friendly, but more importantly Farah will NOT do anything you don't ask for. Then I was told that the hair stylist will not be in till 11. I asked if I could wait. Then I was told that the hair stylist has appointments. Zero stars. First and LAST at this salon. I went on a Sunday morning for a 10am appointment and the salon was closed. I had to wait until 10:07am when Farah arrived and opened. I requested a wash and soft curl blowout. Farah washed then blew out my hair pin straight and was ready to charge me when I reminded her that I wanted soft curls on my ends. Farah had the nerve to respond "there is something in the texture of your hair that doesn't take curls." She then had another girl use a curling iron on me which was not the look I wanted. I was charged for a wash & blow PLUS an extra $30 to have my hair curled. Other salons seem to get soft curls on my ends without a curling iron. Don't waist your time & money. read more
