Honestly, I don't really know that I've ever been to a 4 star or 5 star parking garage...but I know…read moreexactly what I'm looking for in one. It'll have valet parking (that I won't use), security on patrol, emergency phones every so often, moving sidewalks (because I would prefer this method of travel over escalators and stairs...for a better visual of the surroundings and it's fun), golf cart pick-up and drop offs, maybe a restaurant at the top...basically I want an airport turned into a parking garage minus the planes. This could be a lucrative business. My dream parking garage probably has something to do with my obsession with Criminal Minds (shout-out to Shemar Moore for making my Wednesdays a little bit more beautiful). Every other episode has a kidnapping in a parking garage and I feel like we as a nation need to up our security in these dimly lit and eerie boxes of entrapment. Luckily, the Union Plaza Parking Garage and Terminal is pretty dang safe. They do have security at the front of the building and it appears as though they are continually watching monitors. I've never ran into any unsavory characters in this parking garage so kudos for that! In general, all of the parking garages in downtown are relatively safe and the only incident I've ever heard of happening in any downtown parking garage wasn't real, but an extremely riveting story to watch (The Bridge filmed a bomb-threat scene in the Convention Center Parking Garage...although that seemed a strange place for a fictional employee of the El Paso Times to park since the UPP is closer...now you know). This parking garage is also a bus terminal that is clean and has plenty of sheltered waiting. Great for anyone catching the bus downtown during EP's one month winter, when it's rainy or on a rather windy day. This is one of my two favorite parking garages downtown because a lot of the time it's free, but it's almost always at a charge on the weekends or at night. But I prefer parking here if I'm venturing over to the Union Plaza restaurants, bars, and clubs at night because I know there will be a open spot and I won't have to stumble six blocks to my car.

We parked our vehicle on Sunday and picked it back up on Thursday when we were headed home. All I can say is if you ever need to park your vehicle for long or short term parking this would be the place to use. Very safe, very nice and easy to get in and out of. We were very impressed. They have security guards on the premises. There is a sheltered area with seating. The price was very reasonable as well. $10.00 a day. Theron was the name of the person we dealt with over the phone and he was very courteous, professional and extremely helpful. I didn't get the security guards name but he too was very professional, kind and compassionate. Both the Union Plaza Parking/Terminal and the El Paso Civic Center Parking/Terminal are both owned by the same company and are only 2 blocks away from one another. We chose the Union Plaza because it was only a 2 block walk from the parking lot to Amtrak. The El Paso Civic Center Parking was a 4 block walk and being my husband is handicapped it was easier on him to handle the 2 blocks over the 4 blocks. I highly recommend either of these two parking places. I'm sure we will need their services again with my husband and I having to make the trip to the Houston TX VA medical hospital.

And whenever I return, I'm always looking forward to my home and my bed and my life here. And it's a nice, easy airport to navigate. It's the equivalent of a 2-3 block walk between the check-in and bag claim areas (which are next to each other) and most gates (up one level and then to the right or left.) We are neither a big crazy airport nor a tiny airport. We're right in the middle. Airport staff are generally quite nice. Restrooms are always very clean to spotless in my experience. Precheck is a plus to sail through security in 1-5 minutes, but there are rarely long regular lines unless it's peak times on holidays, after a large event like the Sun Bowl, or a there's a large group traveling together. Areas for improvement: El Paso hasn't updated to provide a lot of outlets to charge devices - it should try to add some power stations with seating in the terminal. Concessions are a bit of a weak point. I wish they were less bland, less expensive. It would be wonderful if the selections better represented the El Paso/Juarez region. For example, I would love to see Chuco Relic selling their goods at the airport, and someone selling some food and alcohol from our region (such as our NM wineries like Lescombes, Zin Valle and Rio Grande, and our El Paso breweries like Aurelia's, Mountain Star and Three Missions.) There are lots of great local restaurants that would be great to see, too. Mexican burritos make great airport to-go food. Sadly, much of the US isn't familiar with true Mexican burritos -- but should be. I also think an airport El Taquito and a Panda Burgers would do well. I'd like to see Carne Asada, Barbacoa, Deshebrada, Machaca, Cabrito, Chile Rellenos and tamales available. It would also be nice to see more local art (we have amazing talent here!) and some more local history of the region, or profiles of people who contributed to making the El Paso / Juarez / Las Cruces region what it is today.

The airport was easy to navigate to baggage claim, staff were friendly, smiling and offered assistance. Overall, a clean airport with many options as I walked to my carousel. The baggage claim area was quiet, bright and not at all chaotic. Which led to the outside parking and pick-up which was also light and easy to navigate. I'll be leaving out of El Paso International Airport in a few days and will have more photos and food reviews, which I'm excited to try before I leave.

UTEP Sun Bowl Parking Garage - Best garage on campus

So you may want to park on Schuster and walk. The simple truth is that during big event you have to come prepared and come one hour earlier and leave one hour after the event ends. Come prepared otherwise it will be stressful but doable.

So you're going to UTEP... this is the best place to park on campus. But it's $300+ for a parking…read moredecal?! Save up the $300 and just do it. This parking garage is the only one located within the main campus (there's another *cheaper* one by the Don Haskins Stadium) and while the parking lots and reserved parking areas might look appealing, parking in the garage is the only way to guarantee you will always have a spot. How can that be? To park in the parking garage you have to use your ID, anyone can park in the parking lots because you don't have to be scanned in (So now you're thinking "Well then, why don't I just park in the parking lot?" I'd say 9 out of 10 times if you park in an area that you don't have a decal for, you will get a parking ticket... get too many and you risk the chance of some pretty hefty fines). What else do I like about the UTEP Sun Bowl Parking Garage? Your car is covered so no worries if it's raining or, on the off chance, snowing. Elevators if you can't or don't want to take the stairs. Close proximity to the Bookstore. Wide parking spots. UTEP wi-fi reaches this garage. Adequate lighting at night (and usually during the day some of the lights are on too even though they aren't necessary). Drink machines on the lower levels. Trashcans on every level. Easy access driving in and driving out. Yeah, it's more expensive than getting parking in one of the lots, but when you weigh out the advantages does it really make sense to save $50-$150 over the course of a year when you'd have to walk further in the scorching El Paso sun, possibly take the shuttle which stays packed (unless you're willing to arrive 30 minutes early to class or 20 minutes late) and never at the temperature you want it to be at, always have your car exposed to the elements, and possibly run the risk of being late because your parking lot has become full for some unknown reason (at that point your only option is to park at the next farthest parking lot to avoid a ticket). I did it once and I survived just fine, but when I thought about the fact that $150 over 12 months is $12.50, this garage was just the better deal. *And yes, there is also a parking area in this garage for those that don't have a parking decal so that you can pay by the hour.

I suggest stopping here first and starting at 10:00am when the museum and church open. Not only is this the most scenic and peaceful stop, it offers the most interactive experience of all the nearby missions. Oscar was working the museum on the morning that we stopped and he treated us to a great walking tour and provided local history. He is an oral historian and does a great job of informing visitors of area history as well as culture. Stop in and ask for him. He walked us around the museum and down the nearby streets to give us a tour of the prison and local establishments. I'd say you should plan on being at San Elizario for 1-2 hours to enjoy everything that the area has to offer. Once you've toured, you'll want to hit the local coffee shop known as Cafe Arte di Admore. Amazing coffee, sandwiches, and pastries. The owner even makes all the art on display. You should definitely check out my review for more info on that. Socorro and Ysleta are the other two missions and certainly worth seeing. However, they are in much more bustling areas and will not require the same amount of time. I'd say you can safely plan on 15 minutes at each of these thus making the entire experience about a half day commitment. Please have fun and enjoy!

I managed to stop at each mission/chapel on my drive back to Arizona to read the plaques, walk around the plazas, and take in some spirituality. Even on an abbreviated schedule, this took me two hours. Unlike the missions of San Antonio, these three missions are best done by car, due to the heavy traffic along the border and the narrow road of travel. All three are well-maintained, but opening hours may vary despite them being posted. All three are within seven miles and the road is well-marked. It's journey is best done from the south, starting with the Elizario chapel and then continuing to Socorro and then Ysleta. The Elizario complex is the most quiet one, away from main traffic or large buildings. A gate prevents vehicular traffic in front of the chapel. A lot of blackbirds like to gather in the trees in the plaza, so watch for bird bombs! The Socorro mission has a large parking area. Getting in and out of this one is easy, but again, watch out for traffic when getting back on the road. There is a somber memorial to the Gutierrez family in the back of the mission. Watch out for two very vicious chihuahuas across the dirt path, too. They like to annoy passers-by. The Ysleta mission is in the most congested area of the three. It's on the Tigua Reservation and a major road is between the parking lot and mission. It's loud and active. The noise can be disturbing. This one is also surveilled by camera and a guard shack. Take the time to read the historical signs, enter the churches and take in some self-reflection when walking through these three complexes. The Ysleta mission is the oldest of the three, yet also one of the busiests.
