What a cute place and even cuter owners! We were immediately welcomed as we walked through the door. Ordered some coffee and breakfast and decided to eat in as we were the only ones there. The coffee was very nice and not too burnt/acidic as a lot of places are, and the food was delicious and their ingredients tasted very fresh. One thing I loved about this place was how neighborly it felt as people started coming in for their coffees but were also catching up with the owner. So lovely. Will definitely be back.

I had a crazy dream that a coffee bar would appear on this corner --- and it did! Not just any cafe but a sweet and genuine, for-the-love-of-the-bean kind of shop. I now have a feeling this friendly little spot is going to become a neighbourhood phenomenon. Serving up Origins coffee and treats from East Village Bakery and Black Rook Bakehouse, just up the street. (with some gluten free nummies too.) Screaming of local and EastVan, the vibe is just right.

I was recommended this place by another yelper on August 14th and book marked it for future reference. They close at 3 pm on the weekday, therefore, that was a challenge to get to. I had to wait for the weekend. The initial reviews on the London Fog is what also encouraged me to check this place out. I came here to work on my zine and some holiday crafts for a few hours before heading to some craft fairs later that day as well as selling at some fairs. Thankfully it was sunny as the sun shone inside making me feel good. There is a lot of window space. There's a large communal table which is perfect for large projects. It is also an easy way to make friends. Limited selection on the menu but they make whatever most coffee shops provide in terms of drink preparation. Bonus is that they have a mini arcade in the back. I played a few rounds of AC/DC pinball while sipping my LF. Prices are very reasonable and cheap.

Ok coffee, friendly-ish service, overall, pretty good but I will not likely be back during my vancouver stay.

The interior is well laid out with stool window seats, small tables along the walls, and a gorgeous wooden table at the end. The walls are professionally decorated with framed shots by local photographers. On to the star of the show...the coffee. I started with shot of potent espresso topped with oat milk. What a heavenly combo that was! I took the time to slowly savour each sip. They're not just about coffee, despite the name. The Jasmine loose leaf tea is very fragrant and provides a very nice alternative to those who prefer tea. Feeling a bit hungry, I added an almond croissant produced by a local bakery nearby. I love how this indie is supporting his own local businesses. Better yet, the croissant was sooooo nice right to the last bite....and of course, I scraped up all the crumbs and enjoyed that just as much. Lastly, the owner who took over the shop this summer is a gentleman. He knows his coffee!! I hope everyone in the area will keep supporting the Indies.

I had such an amazing experience at Yuan Coffee. It is so rare to find a coffee shop that not only…read moreimports beans roasted in Asia, but also roasts their own beans in-house. You can really tell how intentional they are with their sourcing, roasting, and brewing. I knew I had to try something made from their gorgeous vintage hand-lever espresso machine, and it absolutely lived up to the experience. I had a cortado with beautiful notes of jasmine and stone fruit, and then took a Geisha drip coffee to go. Both were delicate, clean, and incredibly well-balanced. The baristas were also so knowledgeable and genuinely helpful. They took the time to walk me through their beans and helped me choose something that matched what I was looking for. It felt thoughtful without being pretentious, which I really appreciated. They seem to specialize in lighter roasts, which can be difficult to execute well, especially as espresso. It is easy for light roast espresso to come across too sharp, sour, or overly intense, but Yuan's coffee was nuanced, floral, and smooth. You can tell there is a lot of skill behind the bar. This place truly feels like a treasure and a local gem. I am honestly shocked more people are not frequenting it. If you appreciate specialty coffee, beautiful equipment, and baristas who really know their craft, Yuan Coffee is absolutely worth visiting.
