S2. Egg Flower Soup

I absolutely love this place. Food always comes out hot and fresh. I always get my go to dish. Chicken with black bean sauce. The BEST in China town. But, that's just my opinion. My husband got a fish dish. He enjoyed it. We also got eggdrop soup. Which had way too many peas and carrots. But it was yummy. We also got their eggrolls. I highly recommend this place.

Waking past the place and saw a crowd of people line up for as soon as they opened at noon and thought this place must be pretty good. Tried some dim sum at a couple places but wanted somewhere where we could sit down and have a more formal meal and decided to try this place. Wow, was that a good decision. Super traditional Chinese restaurant but they served some of the best I've ever had. The hunan style chicken was perfectly crispy and had the right amount of sauce. The chow mein was also great and would definitely recommend. If you have the chance, definitely try their potstickers!

Service was fine but the food was not good. Everything was very expensive, so many other better tastier chinese restaurants in Chinatown. When looking at the menu, I thought 'for these prices it must be big portions' but I was very very wrong. The shrimp/prawns were not crispy, chow mein was pretty good though. The orange chicken didn't taste good though, not sure what it tasted like exactly but it was just a little off. I ended up going to a different place to get dim sum instead, it was much better and cheaper. They ran out of seafood as well which was disappointing because that's the only reason I went. The place was not super busy and clean, so that is good.

Roast chicken, fried rice, & assorted veges.

I've eaten @FEC, for many years, personal, large celebrations, & for Community Lion meetings. I have never been disappointed with the foods. Perhaps, the only drawback is a missing elevator from "Street to Main" dinning, upstairs.

My family attended a private event at Far East Cafe for a holiday luncheon. It had very old school vintage Chinese restaurant decor. Which definitely gives you old school Chinatown vibes. The food was decent. We had the chicken salad which was surprisingly very good. I've never had a chicken salad like this before. We had fried chicken wings which were also very good. Perfectly seasoned and fried. The e fu noodles with vegetables were decent. The sweet and sour pork was also decent. I was disappointed by the egg tofu with vegetables. I didn't think it was possible to overcook the egg tofu but it was overcooked and tough. My favorite was the fried fish with sweet corn. The sauce was pretty good and worked for me. Service was pretty good. They filled our tea frequently and cleared our plates as soon as we were done. Overall, the food was decent but nothing that stood out. If we're in the area, we might make a stop but we wouldn't go out of our way to eat here

I went with coworkers coming from Las Vegas and I recommended this restaurant and it was a hit! I had to warn them that the servers will just come, take the order and leave... no pleasantries. But that's how you know the food will be amazing. The food comes out as soon as it's ready - one at a time and we all shared the dishes as they came out. Everyone tried a little of everything and loved it! We stay in hotels near Union Sq often so this location will be our spot the next time they come to town. If you're walking around Chinatown, I recommend this for a group and even as a single diner. So many options on the menu you'll like

Dining at this restaurant in San Francisco's Chinatown, the black-bone chicken soup was delicious. The shrimp had a great texture, and the glutinous rice inside the chicken was tasty.

My friends and I tried this place on a whim because we were in the area. It was great! Located in the heart of Chinatown, Far East Cafe is a large restaurant that is perfect for really big parties. We were seated immediately, and the food came out really quickly. We ordered sesame chicken, vegetable chow mein, green beans with minced pork, and pot stickers. Everything was super yummy! Honestly it hit exactly the way it needed to. I recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a casual spot in Chinatown!

I was in here a couple months ago on a business trip with coworkers and loved it. So when I brought my wife into the city for a weekend, we gave it another shot. It did not disappoint. This is an old restaurant in the interior is really cool and historical. The food here is really good and fresh. I would definitely recommend it for anybody that wants a good Chinese restaurant and visiting Chinatown.

Right in ChinaTown, the decor was cute obviously the place is a little older inside. Service was pretty fast, we were told the wait was an hour but more like 10mins. The waiter was pleasant and fast. Some of the food came out cold, the egg drop soup was 10/10 so flavorful. The orange chicken was a little bland and a little cold.

Yesterday 2 friends and I had lunch at Far East Cafe. My friends ordered chow mein and said theirs was tasty. I ordered Szechuan shrimp and unfortunately the shrimp was overcooked to the point that I could not chew it. I politely told the woman who was the host about the shrimp being overcooked and that I couldn't chew it. She then gave me the nastiest look and in a very rude tone asked what she should do about it. Now, that sounds like she was being helpful but her tone and the terribly rude look she gave me let me know that she was quite angry. She then asked if I wanted her to make me another plate and I said, "Yes, please." She then went into a loud tirade towards the waiter and told me that I could continue to eat the vegetables on my plate while waiting for my food. When she returned with my new plate and took the first one away, she said in a dismissive and snotty tone that the head chef had cooked this plate so she knew the shrimp was not overcooked! Well, she should have sampled one of the shrimps before serving this dish because the shrimps were tough and overdone but I did not complain. I think I figured out what she told the waiter, Jimmy, who was very nice and helpful. When I ate about 1/2 of my leftovers for lunch today (did not reheat shrimp) there were 8 hot peppers just in that portion of my food! I didn't see that many on my entire first plate. Fortunately I like hot and spicy food that stings my lips. I would not recommend this overpriced place with some rude staff members. I left our waiter a 25% tip as I felt sorry for him being bullied by that woman. BTW-$2 extra for a serving of steamed rice and a pot of tea was not included. I truly was surprised that we received fortune cookies with our bills. Obviously I will never return here nor recommend anyone to dine at Far East Cafe.

Rebecca was very helpful in suggesting a wonderful lunch! Went at the recommendation of a friend and fairly spot on! The food was nice but bummed they didn't have spicy dipping sauce for pot stickers, although they were a nice size portion. Disappointed they weren't browned on both sides. The chew mien, chicken dish, and beef dish were nicely prepared.

Cydney F.

The food was authentic and delicious. Our waiter was awesome and kept the food coming. The ambiance was nice and relaxing.

And if it's chicken wings your soul is screaming for, let's be honest: there isn't a single place in this town that can compete with San Tung. This recipe? It's completely off the hook. It is sweet, it is tangy, and it is utterly, shamelessly irresistible to the human tongue. It completely defies the pedestrian flavors that everyone else in this city is pushing. This isn't just food; it's a lifestyle choice. It's my drug of choice. What you've got here is a beautiful, bastardized combination of Chinese and Korean BBQ engineering. But let's get one thing straight: the secret isn't some mythical blend of eleven herbs and Chinese spices. No, it boils down to something far more primal: the type of chicken that San Tung purchases. They are looking for something very specific--the precise age, the exact size of the bird. And that? That is something they will absolutely never share with you. Like the formula for Coca-Cola, they guard that secret with a beautiful, paranoid intensity. Now, the people I really miss in this room are Charles and his wife. They split off from this sit-down paradise years ago and carved out their own gig right next door--San Tung 2. They took the crown and put themselves on the map for those wings. It was a beautiful, tightly run family affair--full-on mafia style. Whatever traffic drove through this side of town, they weren't here for the scenery; they were here for the wings. ST2 might be gone now, but the dream? The dream continues to thrive right here. So whenever that craving hits, do yourself a favor. Make your way over to this room. You'll thank me later.

I popped by about 15 mins before opening on a Friday and a short line quickly formed behind me. I'd say you probably don't need to wait though if you show up before 6PM. The real hack to skip the wait might honestly be to call in your order though as many to-go orders were bagged up by the time the doors opened. Dry Fried Chicken Wings: These are great don't get me wrong, but I'm not sure if I'd wait in a crazy line to pick these up. The wings themselves are on the smaller side, but pretty juicy and nicely cooked. The sauce is really quite sweet on the sweet savory scale and the sugar almost crystallizes on the fried skin to make for an ultra thick, satisfying crust. TLDR: skip the line by ordering ahead or arriving early. The wings are very very solid.

We got seated right by the window, so lovely! The ambiance is so nice and the decor is so cozy and cool. We got the free peanuts and cucumber salad first- so flavorful and a nice way to whet our appetite. The scallop vermicelli was SO buttery and flavorful. I wanted another order!! The claypot rice came steaming hot and full of meats! Get something to cut it with! The black bean clams were delicious but a tad salty so it's nice to have with the claypot, or even an order of veggies and plain rice! We ended our meal with shaved ice that was layered with black bean, custard, and boba! So refreshing and a perfect end! I would come back 10000%

Anyway, having tried it, I can say it was good, but not so good that I'd expend that much energy to secure the reservation. Have to say, service was really great. Servers were attentive without being overbearing, which is always welcome. We ordered several dishes and dined, as they suggested, family style. To start, we were given two complimentary dishes, the roasted peanuts and the smashed cucumbers; both were nice appetizers. We ordered the Chiu Chow green beans, the Mongolian beef noodles, the claypot rice with lop cheung and bacon, the salt 'n peppa prawns, and the whole fried petrale sole, the last two being on the day's "specials" board. The winning dish was definitely the green beans. All the food was good, but seemed to be a bit overly salted and highly spiced. The piece of beef I had from the Mongolian beef noodles was tender, but one of my friends thought her piece was a bit tough and too chewy; we all thought the beef could have been cut into smaller or thinner pieces. We also shared two desserts since it was a birthday celebration (there are only three options offered). We had the red bean shaved ice and the mango pudding. Both were good (not "oh, boy, yummy" good, but good). Nice to try. The price wasn't outrageous ($200 including tax and tip), but I think this will be a "been there, done that" experience for me unless a friend absolutely wants to go again.

Everything tasted great, and unlike so many restaurants nowadays that serve individual-sized portions under the guise of "family style," 606's portions are huge and wonderfully generous. Wonton Noodle Soup: The broth was flavorful without being overly salty, and the wontons were packed with plump, tender shrimp--they definitely don't skimp on ingredients! Seafood Fried Noodles: Executed perfectly with just the right amount of savory sauce so the noodles retained that satisfying crispy, crunchy texture. Garlic Chinese Spinach: Cooked just right--not too soft and not undercooked. I'm so glad we came back to sit down and dine in. Not only do Eugene and his team make you feel right at home, but the food is fantastic, hearty, and full of heart. Highly recommend!
