Spareribs on the bone were elite
    Gary G.

First visit after hearing about their excellence at old school Chinese. East parking. Oddly a little divey looking from the sign and the exterior, but a modern, respectable interior without any tiki decor. Went with apps, entrees, and a combination plate to get just the right amounts. Okay, more than the right amounts. Spareribs on the Bone: Elite. Among the top 5 I've had within the last five years, with all the bases covered. Red glazy finish, ample but not overdone to the point where you wonder if they're hiding anything. Nice char, and not overdone to the point where anyone could accuse them of being burnt. Very meaty. Very tender. Most importantly, great flavor, from outside and in. Cross-sections extremely juicy. Fresh tasting. Can't wait have them again. Egg Rolls: Excellent rendition, with no special features, but every aspect was well done: good size, very crisp exterior, very moist interior, with more cabbage than celery, and more pork than most other places. Teriyaki: Not elite but very, very good. Thin, but with thick teriyaki tenderness. Elite on tenderness, actually; just a little light (but not lacking) on flavor. I'd still get them again. Maybe the early visit (hit them on opening) meant less marinade time. Wings: Very crisp. Very juicy. Not much flavor. Pork Fried Rice: Tried on a combo, this was good, with some of that dark old school flavor but more of a sticky rice texture. Gigantic chunks of roast pork. Somewhat mushy. Potentially elite; gotta try one more time. A full order of the subgum pork fried rice had all the same qualities plus extra vegetables. Sweet and Sour Chicken: Very good. The chicken fingers were all crisp with good batter, but meat-to-batter ratio varied. Pineapples and cherries abundant. Unique clear sweet sauce. Deep flavor with both sweet and sour. "Fantasteak": Surprisingly good surprise item, ordered as one of the appetizers on the sweet-and-sour chicken combination plate to minimize the commitment. Basically steak tips done teriyaki style. Very, very, very good. Will be a full order next time. Good crust outside, tender and pink inside. Just like the sticks, they were just a little light on flavor but not lacking. Can't wait to have more. Pork Egg Foo Yong: Okay. Nothing special. Not as tender as most. Decent enough gravy. Very reasonable prices. Very friendly service. Felt like home.

Great food. It's constantly delicious. Plenty of options and plates to choose from. Just a solid location for classic Chinese food.

Hadn't been here in 20 years, and won;t be back. It was terrible then, it is terrible now. Food tastes like cleaning fluid. Just gross.

There was a "surprise" course where you don't know what you'll get. I'm adventurous so went with that. What I didn't know was it just means she'll throw together whatever is leftover in the pot from yesterday and heat it up for you. The food was 90% awful, not fresh, reheated leftovers. Then we were leaving, no desert thanks. She insisted we have desert, cannolis. We tho if he they were comp lol, but when the bill came...there is no bill! She just gives you the total lol. Pretty sure we paid for desert and the awful food. I don't know how this is an over 4 stars.

Disgusting. Apart from this.. if you can get over that, the food was really meh for the $, the chicken was dry and hard to chew and it just seemed like something I could cook on my own at home and I'm not even very good at cooking. Also got an espresso which was acidic and 1/2 cold. (This we've tried twice and both times just as bad)

As it is a large establishment, there usually isn't any problems with getting seated. Therefore, large parties are easily accommodated for including my part of 10 for my sister's birthday. For starters we have tried their lobster bisque and cream of mushroom soups. Both are very viscous and usually on the blander side. Using the fresh and hot popovers to dip make it better as well as the complementary marinated mushrooms. By the time the entrees come out, were already almost full. Entrees have included their fish and chips, chicken tenders and french fries, prime rib, 6 hour roast beef, salmon, haddock, stuffed shrimp, scallops and pan-fried crab cakes. Like the soups, everything appears to look decent, but the flavor just isn't really there. I did, however, really enjoy their plain white rice as it was lightly salted. We ordered a side of broccoli which came with hollindaise sauce as the only sides available with entrees are french fries, white rice, and a baked sweet or regular potato. The broccolis were massive and cooked to still have a crunch. But the hollindaise sauce was disappointing tasting mostly of butter. Prime rib was very salty which may be good for others. For desserts we tried their chocolate cakes with raspberry sorbet as well as the creme brulee. Chocolate cake may have been flourless because it lacked any sort of substantial chewiness to it. The creme brulee itself was very good having a perfect custard texture with the crystalized sugar on top. Overall, the service has always been exceptional as well as the view. The food itself could use some enhancements but you are paying for the other two reasons above. Although this isn't my first place to come back to, I will still most likely come again at some point.

Nothing felt gimmicky, everything was thoughtfully prepared. The ambiance is outstanding. Walking in, it felt like one of the better spots I've dined in Boston proper or New York. The space has real character. Our server Lou was exceptional. First-timers at a tapas-style restaurant, and he made sure we understood the portions, guided us through choices we weren't sure about, and kept us from over-ordering. That level of attentiveness makes a difference. The food was outstanding. The broccoli alone (yes, broccoli) was a standout. The ahi tuna and rice cake were equally impressive. My martini was perfectly executed. The owner came by, introduced himself, and actually spent time with each table. That kind of engagement from ownership tells you everything about the place's standards. I'm already planning my return to work through the rest of the menu.
