The atmosphere was open and inviting, and left plenty of room for people to browse. There was a variety of merchandise (key chains, figures, stickers, mystery boxes, and more) from a number of well known and lesser known anime. I purchased a lot of items and felt they were very reasonably priced. The staff were extremely happy and pleasant to be around. Four days later I received 2 posters that looked like they had ever seen the light of day, and they were from July 12 1968. They host regular magic the gathering tournaments, pre-releases, draft nights, and commander events. It's a small LGS, but just this last Sunday, I participated in the 4th Prerelease event that weekend, in which a good 16+ people showed up to play in. It's across the street from a mini mart and Krispy Krunchy Chicken shop, so lots of food options to just come in and chill and enjoy an afternoon or weekend playing cards or checking out the latest comic runs.

I came in with a big box of books and a man checking out customers pointed me to the counter by the window. While I waited, I set my box on an empty part of the counter. The man who'd be looking at my books told me I'd have to wait 4 minutes. His tone was hostile, so I just told him I was waiting. When it was my turn, things got sour fast. The offer felt low, so I asked if there was any room to negotiate. Right away, no. Fine. I asked if there were other options, and he said I'd get more in store credit. Since I hadn't decided between credit and cash, I asked if he could write the offer down so I could come back another day. Again, an instant no. He said he was "too busy." I don't know what kind of training Moe's gives its staff, but this gentleman could use some customer service training. Maybe Moe's could stock a few books on the subject and encourage him to read them. There are plenty of other great bookstores nearby. I'd recommend Pegasus Books for your book fix.

I was a Comic Relief Customer in the days of Rory Root. With purchases of $60.00 to $150.00 a week. As Rory not being present a lot in the end and also Mr. Martinez sparsely present also (he and Rory held the place together) they had a very good relationship so as Rory passed away things became chaotic at the original store. Employees became crude and disrespectful. An incident showed me who was who of the employees. In 2000 Ultimate Spiderman #1 was released I purchased 2 issues (regular) and 1 Dynamic Forces issue. I asked an employee in the back consultation desk about the retailer incentive White Cover #1. He pulled it out "O this one, proceeded to wrinkle it, threw it on the floor than stepped on it, than said $20.00 as he laughed. He was a good friend of the dumb pothead new store owners brother. They both didn't like Variant Comic Covers. He was eventually let go. Hence the Rudeness with crassness and profiling instilled at the new store, is still lingering, Now onto more present times. I stopped frequenting the store and shifted most purchases but a few elsewhere. To a well established friendly store in Oakland. An employee's brother owned a Comic store of sort's in Oakland caught wind of the impeding fall of Comic Relief and obtained it. I went once, I picked out some books went to the counter, asking for 5 bags and boards, a friend of an (the pothead, that's not hearsay) employee/owner said I couldn't put the books in the bags until I paid for them. (I always make sure the price is outward, some have it on the rear cover.) I find the best books of the selection and it takes time so, I rather always bag n board them first, as I've always done. After the resultant issue's, He's one lucky SOB. NEEDLES TO SAY YOU CAN'T CHOOSE YOUR FAMILY. But in a business setting you should keep watch. I've never gone back, at one time I was going to bring this up with his brother. But family is family. This was years ago but there still getting bad Reviews for employee Rudeness ECT. I have story's about Comic Greats that been on the Rude treatment. Don't get me wrong Rory and I would adamantly discuss Comics, collecting, reading, values enso forth, he was a eloquent man even when it was heated. RIP read more

On a stretch of Shattuck Avenue that seems like an endless trail of gourmet restaurants and panhandlers, Fantastic Comics represents friendly service, open ambience and topical selection. Yesterday I entered the store, and, as usual, an employee greeted me at the front door. I asked him for graphic novels about political history, and gave him several titles that I'd read and liked. Jeff immediately sprang into action, perusing each shelf for books related most directly to my interests. Another staff member pitched in ideas, and they handed me several beautiful new editions, none of which I'd read. Thank you, Jeff, and thank you, Fantastic Comics! read more

A nice up and coming store. The staff is always really friendly. I think they're still figuring out exactly what they'll stock - so I suggest if you're looking for a title to ask them about it so they'll know that people are interested. It's worked for me! I like the "sparseness" of the layout but secretly hope that they have a plan to fit more books in there! read more

This place feels like a local bar for comic fans, except instead of drinks you're deep into comic talk and shop news. The variety here is fantastic. The wall is lined with new releases and current titles, there's a strong selection of graphic novels, and the middle of the store is packed with long boxes full of back issues, including great deals like 50-cent bins, variant covers, and bundle finds. There's just so much cool stuff to look through. Benicia is lucky to have a comic shop like this, and whenever I'm in the area, I make it a point to stop by. This TPB is out of print and since Micah Ian Wright was fired by DC and blacklisted from comics for stolen valor everything he's written has stayed out of print. The owner Sam guided me to Uncanny X-Men back issues, and I was lucky enough to fill some gaps in a early 90s run that I had from the 90s. They run different discounts on back issues, it was 25% off when I picked up my books. I was impressed with the organization of the back issues, and it appeared they had all been re-bagged and boarded which made them present really well. I'd also noticed they have 50-75% off on some graphic novels that they are clearing out. Recommendation: I saw they have some graphic novels of Saga of the Swamp thing by Alan Moore and Stephen Bissette. If you haven't read this, its a must buy in my opinion.

Upon walking in the door, I peeked to my right and saw a magazine rack selling Fangoria. Right on. Also, saw the fella' behind the register and immediately went up to him to ask where the new comics were, as it was a Wednesday. He kind of points to his right and says "It's where the sign for new comics are." I couldn't see it. There were racks in front of where I was standing and that section. I asked so I wouldn't have to wander through the game tables and other merchandise. I was looking for new comics. Thought it was a little rude, but it didn't really bother me. So I get to the new comics section. It's completely unorganized. Or maybe it was organized, but by someone with an OCD disorder that only makes sense to them. Is it that hard to have DC, Marvel, Boom, IDW etc separated nicely to look through the issues by company? It was madness. Also, the comic racks were a bit ramshackle. A lot of the books were bent, worn, and some even looked folded in half when I was looking. I wouldn't buy a six dollar comic for any reason in that kind of condition, considering they were supposed to be "brand new". I continued to look through the stuffed, unorganized shelves to find something to buy as what I was looking for was nowhere to be found. That's fine and I'll get into that in a moment, but I wasn't just/only looking for the "hot" comics right then. Image is always coming out with new number ones that look interesting, and I couldn't find anything. Seriously, I wanted to spend some money, so I'm trying to find absolutely anything. Didn't happen. So, I go back up to the register and just ask about the titles I'm looking for. Every title I ask about I get a two word answer, "Sold Out". Now, this is fair, I was there late and the fellow told me that his patrons are usually coming in around noon and buying the new books up then. Bummer for me. Seems if your stock gets eaten up that quick, you'd order a few more copies of said titles, but I don't know how to run a comic shop. Who knows? Okay, better things. It isn't really my bag, but it seemed like they had a lot of boxes of back issues. I doubt that place is going to let you grab a key issue for cheap, but it's probably worth checking out if you're trying to complete a run. So, that seemed decent. They had a shelf of trades, nothing caught my eye because I either have already read or own the ones I would be interested in, but I suppose it would be worth a look. They were all fairly older, and it didn't seem like they were discounted at all. I did not exactly peruse them to see if that was the case, just seemed that way. That's okay, though because it's far better to support an LCS than just snagging them online. I saw that they had some gaming tables, and some folks were doing just that. It's always a nice addition to a store. I didn't even head in that section, so I have no insight on cool boardgames, RPGs, or card game selection. Could be great. The sign on the outside says "Anime Imports", instead of "CoastsideComics", so maybe that's what they do and comics are just a backseat now. I don't have the option to get there early, so I could have started a pull list and waited a couple of months for that to start getting going. I'm buying about fifteen-eighteen titles a month, but I couldn't get over how they treat their shelved comics, so I decided not to. Conclusion: This is not a store for me. Not organized. About a quarter of the books look like they've been read over and over and kept in someone's back pocket. No way to pop in and get something new after one pm. Register guy was okay, but not very helpful with the slightest touch of...I dunno, it wasn't completely rude, just kind of unwelcoming to an obviously new to this store customer. I tried desperately to find something to buy, and I'm a comic guy! I would have bought anything that looked remotely interesting. Just didn't have anything. I guess that's it.

They also have figures (I picked up a marvel rivals figure). The workers are always friendly and help out if I have questions. It's a really nice environment and I enjoy stopping by even if i'm not getting anything.
