If you're in the mood for a sandwich that's decent but not life-changing, this place is meh... I order the pastrami dandwich, maybe a bit too fatty, but the flavor was okay. The cheese was nicely melted and tied everything together, and the pickles had a little tang that kept each bite from feeling bland. It definitely looks the part with its crispy golden bread, gooey cheese, and plenty of meat packed inside. But once I dug in, it didnt quite taste as good as it looked. It's not bad, just not something I'd go out of my way for. Especially for the price. I visited the drive thru yesterday. 11/24/25 at 16:45Hrs. I was waited on by the rudest person imaginable. Her intro, tone and lack of attention to my order was sub par. At the beginning she asked me what I wanted with a thick accent. When I told her "hold on a sec, I haven't been here for a while". She screamed back "WHAT!!" I answered once more with the same outcome. When I answered her in Spanish "aguantame unos momentos por favor!" She went silent. I proceeded to order. Chicken breast sandwich combo she answered "combo?" (I think I made it clear). I answered "yes". And ordered onion rings. Even that seemed to be an issue when I requested a large. She ended staring "next window". No total and no please.... No common courtesy whatsoever. Arriving at the window she mumbled the total through a partially opened window and I asked her to repeat: again the attitude. I've been coming here since the 90's and I have never been served wjth this lack of professionalism. If you don't like your job - spin the bottle and work somewhere else. We, the customers, are not the reason for your internal/personal issues. All of us, in unison, keep your doors open and the owners pay you accordingly. I went for a burger tonight and was very disappointed to have found a hair inside my burger. Didn't decide to go back to show them because they were gonna close in 15 min and I just told myself there was no point because I don't live close. Also I always feel rushed at the speaker, I asked "sorry can you repeat that" and I get a response of "is that it for the order". Always receiving a very snappy response. Saw this place as I was driving around and decided to stop. I've been to other Fantastic Cafe's and have had good experiences. Everything here looks good! I couldn't decide what to order. I finally decided on the double cheeseburger combo with Zucchini's instead of fries. The burger was great , the restaurant had plenty of seating and was clean. The staff hustled to get the orders out in a timely fashion. The only things that put me off was the very small and crowed parking lot. And the ranch dressing they are using is not good. It was sour and tasted more like yogurt than anything else. I would recommend they switch brands. If I'm in the area again , maybe I'll try the Pastrami melt or the pastrami chili cheese fries! This place is very nostalgic for me. It's been around for a long time and you can definitely see that not much has changed. I like that though. . It was very busy when I went, but I also went during lunch. I'm happy that many people still eat here. I decided to join the line of cars in the drive-thru. Your favorite Yelp correspondent has been coming here since high school (class of 1988), so returning here is like a long, wonderful trip down Sentimental Street. Added bonus? I had my lifelong best friend and little brotha by anotha motha, Mick, as my dining companion for the evening. As always, my order was the same as it was when Ronald Reagan was in the White House and Joe Biden was a failed presidential candidate- Double Burger, upgraded to a Combo Plate. The meal comes with a big mouthy burger, fries, onion rings, a better than expected side salad and a drink. All for $14.51 incl tax. Back in high school, it ran $3.65, which makes me feel older than Rip Van Winkel! The salad is fresh, popping w/ freshly sliced cherry red tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce + carrot and is best topped w/ the house-made Thousand Island (a wee bit sweeter than the store bought variant). The fries are average, but the onion rings are thick, unctuous and crunchier than the bags of Corn Nuts you usta sneak into fourth period Algebra II to stave off til the lunch bell would clamor! The burger is a cross between a Whopper and a Famous Star- You appreciate the char-grilled flavor. Are these burgers so damn good you'd slap your mother to get one?! Nooooo. But they are definitely a step above, occupying the upper burger class between drive-thru casual burgers and the premium half pounders served up with elan by places like Chili's and Islands. i'm genuinely shocked to see that the average rating is 3 stars... this place is gas and everyone knows it . usually when i come here the drive thru line can have some length like this is a great mf spot. i usually get the bacon avocado cheeseburger (i've ordered this for the last EIGHT years) and it's amazing. i actually only came across the yelp ratings while looking for directions bc as soon as i landed from LAX i wanted this. i don't know management or the owners or the back story, but it very much gives mom n pop kinda shop vibe (as most san pedro restaurants do) but it's just my absolute favorite charbroiled burger spot (the menu is diverse and i always want to try something different but i am too loyal to my bacon avocado cheeseburger with thousand island sauce.. i will say though, you may have to confirm they put your sauces in the bag read more

I'm an out of town that stopped in here before heading to the beach for the day and let me tell you the breakfast sandwiches they have here are great. I've visited twice in the past two weeks: hot, fresh, plentiful, and tasty!!!! I ordered the 4-piece chicken strips with fries and lemonade, accompanied by honey mustard sauce. It's really 4 pieces of chicken breast fillets. Not complaining!!!! I am more cognizant of my health. Otherwise, I'd make this place at least twice a week. $13.13 for the meal. I was relieved. I'm so sad to write this because I've been coming here for as long as I could remember, as a child I'm the 90s. The food is usually consistent and decent. The prices lately have been creeping up. It is now way OVERPRICED for the quality of food your getting. Sadly today we had the worst customer service I've ever experienced here. I was craving the chilly cheese fries. Around 9:50pm I called and the phone rang and rang to voicemail. I called again as google said closing time was at 11pm. I heard the phone pick up then click. Someone hung up. This happened two more times. On the fourth call, someone finally rudely answered and took my order. Clearly she was irritated and wanted to go home on a Saturday night. When we arrived to pick it up at 10:21, the door was locked. People were in the drive thru so we got in line and I called to let them know I was in the drive thru. The lady on the phone was rude once again. Lady at the window was irritated when we told her we had a Togo order. Again sad to write this but right now, not a place I recommend. read more

This is a real bare-bones kind of place. You order at the counter (which has a very beach concession stand feel with the letterboards) and then you take a number to whichever table you want to sit at. The prices are pretty cheap - I got an order of pancakes (which they call hotcakes? ok..) and they were like $7. Food came out fairly quickly and the portion size was definitely hearty. Did not leave hungry. But I am very done with the 'ordering at the counter' type of places that I seem to keep ending up at. I'd prefer a diner where you are seated and they take your order at the table, but this place was decent for a quick group breakfast. read more

During the years I lived in El Segundo, CA, I rarely visited the Fantastic Cafe on Main Street just a few blocks from my apartment. However, since I worked in Carson and Long Beach, CA, my work team and I frequented the San Pedro location from time to time, as we were always working at the terminals. We got an early start at work, so we almost never went there for breakfast. However, we sometimes found ourselves eating here for lunch and I was always satisfied. My usual "go-to" menu item was the Carne Asada burrito. It was reasonably priced, tasted really good and never left you hungry. From what I recall, this burrito felt like a "2-pounder" and was chock full of yummy goodness; and they didn't skimp on the meat. Their ¼ pound burgers were pretty solid too. Maybe not IN-N-Out, good, but pretty darn good nonetheless. Also of note is their grilled chicken salad. Not exactly the healthiest option as it was topped with lots of cheese, but they didn't skimp on the chicken, and I left full every time. read more
