Fanny's is located inside the academy museum and seems to attract most guests. They do get busy pretty quickly so expect a wait time if you don't have a reservation. I overheard a few people having meetings there specifically. Since I walked in, I opted for the bar service and was assisted quickly there. I decided to get small bites and a drink since it is a pricey menu for the type of food they offer. I went with the crab cake and regular fries. For my cocktail, I stuck to my usual which was an old fashion. They have themed cocktails related to the exhibitions being shown, but I played it safe. So the crab cake came out pretty quickly and of course the French fries too. The French fries are unique since they are breaded before getting fried. I enjoyed the taste to them and texture was perfect. 4/5 I wish they served a side of ranch to go with it, instead I got a small serving of ketchup. The crab cake to me, was good. Not like impressing good--just good overall. I wanted something with protein since I was a bit hungry. The sauce that surrounded the crab cake was delicious and a little spicy. Once single crab served so not shareable. The presentation was nice so I'd rate this plate 3.5/5 The old fashion was amazing! 5/5 made perfectly well, smooth and refreshing to me. Overall, the cafe seems to be doing well as it attracts lots of people. Plus it sits right inside the museum so they have plenty of business coming in. I wouldn't go out of my way just come here and have dinner though since I feel the prices are quite high for what they offer. My total for these three items came out to $60 bux and plus I tipped. My bartender was very nice and patient with my questions so I appreciated that as well. I think their cocktails are made so good that it keeps people coming back, just to have drinks there and chill. I've been to Fanny's multiple times and each time has been fantastic. It's also been my go-to for taking friends and family from out of town as it always impresses. And even as a local, I'm regularly tempted to stop by, be it for a drink or dinner, regardless of whether I decide to make it a museum day as well. The vibe is the perfect blend of remaining casual aligned with the museum goers but a nice touch of class thanks to the decor, staff, and menu. Food is pretty consistently good, and cocktails while pricey are tasty and nicely executed. Definitely recommend stopping by. P.S. In more recent visits we've had a few call-outs about small aspects of the food- be it lackluster presentation or the Lobster Cobb Salad that had hard unripened avocado chunks in it, but nothing overtly terrible. I was wondering why it was called Fanny's. The higher end restaurant in the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is named after early 20th-century vaudevillian Fanny Brice best known for Barbra Streisand's legendary portrayal in "Funny Girl". Judging from the vintage photo gallery (Photo 4), I think the connection comes less from Barbra and more from Brice's granddaughter who made a major donation to fund the restaurant. OK, I get it now. Jamie W and I had just finished walking through the Marilyn Monroe centenary exhibit when we decided to take a peek in this cavernous space. We weren't hungry, but they offered a happy hour starting at 3PM. Surprisingly, we had no problem securing a table near the bar. We perused the $14 cocktail selection and had the Classic Margarita and Peach Daiquiri (Photo 10). Neither rained on our parade because we were bagels on a plateful of onion rolls. Fannys is where you dine when you are visiting the Academy of Motion Pictures Museam. You don't need to be a famous actor to dine here but you need to act like one. They will probably ask you what your next film is and I just said it's "David conquers Fanny" It has an excellent atmosphere, terrific service, nice restrooms. Good restaurant for romantic dinner, friends, business. On to the food: Salmon: Excellent, one of the best, get it! Chicken: Okay. A bit dry and bland for me. CONS: - The selection of main dishes is quite limited, so you would expect that each choice on the menu would be of the highest quality. However, while the visual presentation of each dish is top par, the flavors are lacking. I ordered the, "Full Metal Short Rib Ragu" and honestly, while the served portion was large, it tasted like it came out of a can. My wife ordered the, "Deluxe Burger", actually, I told her to order it so she could share half of it w/me) and there was absolutely nothing deluxe about it. The hamburger was so dry and the seasoning was awful. Pure yuck. - My daughter ordered the appropriately named, "Finding Salmon". She complained the salmon serving was so small, you're actually trying to find more salmon. - Our guests ordered salads, and they said that they were totally underwhelming. Spacious and classy place inside the Academy Museum. No need to pay for admission to visit this restaurant but you get to see the lobby area of the museum and you can visit the museum store. Interesting menu, with many items named after movies, quite appropriately! We ordered their hamberger -- good size patty and great fries; we also tried the Mushroom Wellington -- a fantastic dish and great choice if you are vegetarian. Service was very attentative. I'll be honest, when a restaurant is connected to a museum I never really expect too much, but I was pleasantly surprised! Everything we tried here exceeded my expectations. You have to get the focaccia, it is pillowy, the bottom is toasted and golden and marinated in oil. And that whipped butter that it comes with is fantastic! I went to the Academy Museum to see the latest exhibits and decided to stop at the restaurant while I was there. I did not have a reservation and was surprised to learn that the wait was about 30 minutes. We were told we could sit at a table in the bar area, but we would need to order directly from the bar. A table had just opened, so we grabbed it. The bartender who had just cleaned the table offered to take our order. I was impressed by how genuinely friendly everyone was. I always think it says a lot about a work environment when the employees act as though they truly enjoy their jobs. The restaurant has a great old-Hollywood atmosphere, with photographs of movie stars covering the walls. Both the food and cocktail menus were fun, with plenty of references to films and movie stars. I was tempted to order the Darth Vader cocktail but ultimately went with a classic martini. We ordered the flight of fries, stuffed squash blossoms, crab cake and burrata. The presentation was impressive, and everything tasted very good, with bold and interesting flavors and the portions were generous. I can only speak on the coffee side of Fanny's since I recently went there several times while I was working nearby. I got a latte each time and was extremely satisfied. They made an actual latte, not a capuccino, which is something that happens to me at a lot of cafes. They use Manufactory coffee. The temperature was perfect and they even made a foam design on a takeout cup with lid! Service was friendly and quick even when there was a line. They also make drinks for the restaurant, so this was impressive. One of the days I also got a Heath Bar cookie which was huge and delicious. The food was great. The service is just depressing. I was a walk in - found myself surprisingly hungry before JAWS. I sat at the bar and received my menu quickly. Then, everything fell apart. I overheard the guy I ordered from asking another guy how to add my request for ketchup to my burger order in the computer. No one has ever asked for ketchup before? I received my iced tea rather quickly, but it took a long time before I could catch someone's eye to ask for sugar. (Usually sugar packets are a given.) My order took so long that another diner asked me about it. I watched at least six other burgers go out before I finally received mine. I received my plate, and then had to wave my arms to flag down someone to ask for A NAPKIN and silverware. Maybe they thought I didn't need silverware, but I really think they should have anticipated my need for AT LEAST one napkin. I received a very tiny cup of ketchup with burgers and fries and had to request more. The weirdest part was the strange sculpture they put on my plate made out of the pickles and avocado I requested. It's California. Avocado is not an unusual request. Look - the food is great, but the service felt like it was everyone's first day at the bar and in the kitchen. Food was absolutely delicious after our trip to the academy museum, but I don't think the service could have been more unfortunate. We came around 1pm and it was noticeably understaffed that day as we were sixth in line at the hostess stand where no one was attending for at least 3-4 minutes. Someone finally came and eventually put in our table request, told us we would be seated within 10-15 mins. We saw multiple empty tables that had not been cleaned. About 20 minutes at least went by before we were seated. Eventually our very nice and friendly server came, took our orders for drinks, and after they came, took our orders for appetizers. After about 10 mins, the manager came to say there would be a delay in the kitchen as they had to turn something over and then after that he came back to say the chef had to make the paste we ordered fresh. Everything just moved very slowly. Ultimately the meal took at least 2+ hours from putting our name down to leaving around 3:30pm. Ultimately we were hoping this was a one off service wise but the food was pretty fantastic! So I would definitely give it another try read more

One sit down dining room and one for quick bite and go cafe. I got the food from the cafe as I was short on time. Got the lobster bisque and a slice of pepperoni pizza. The soup was a bit too watery. I did not taste or got any bite of lobster. It comes with crusty bread. Not worth $15 when it is watery bisque. The pizza was ok, thick slice. Not that impressive. Came in today to emerse myself in a little culture, as it's my first visit to LACMA and the surrounding area since practically covid times. The cafe space is small with limited seating indoors but I'd imagine you can order there and bring it outside to the courtyard where there is more seating. We came on a rainy day so opted for the restaurant which was spacious with hints of glamour. I was surprised by the number of families with small children at the restaurant as I wouldn't say this specific museum is all that entertaining for younger kids. The host stand was empty when we arrived so we waited several minutes. As previously stated by other reviewers, the service in this restaurant needs work but the food is excellent. Chef Oh is certainly serving up some tasty, fresh ingredient dishes which I was absolutely impressed by. We had the lobster cobb salad and the brunch menu florentine. Both dishes were excellent and largely portioned. The price point is a bit high but that's to be expected at a museum restaurant. All in all, I would return if in the area. read more

This place is genuinely impressive. The room, the service, the food, the cocktails with the ridiculous pun names, the whole thing works. I was honestly surprised by how much I liked it, especially being inside a museum. Usually that setup makes you brace for something either too precious or too forgettable. This was neither. The service was dialed in, warm and attentive, and the food was strong enough that we ended up ordering a lot of the menu just to keep seeing what else they could do. Most of it delivered. Big flavors, thoughtful presentation and enough personality to make the meal feel memorable instead of just expensive. The only real miss was the lobster Cobb. The lobster itself was phenomenal, but the rest of the salad felt strangely careless, like a Costco vegetable tray got dressed up and sent out under a better name. It was the one dish that didn't belong with the rest of the experience. But nothing is perfect. And one bad salad does not undo a meal this good. I'll absolutely be back. Yummy pastries, perfect coffee drinks, and a trio of baguette sandwiches the likes of which I have not enjoyed since my trip to Paris way too long ago. I took a solo journey for the grand opening of the D line . While they offered food I wanted to sit and enjoy a meal and a beverage. I initially was thinking of taking the rapid to farmers market but this spot in the ground floor of the Academy Museum fought my eye. You can make reservations or walk in . And you do not have to pay admission to the museum to eat here . I sat at the bar and had excellent service . I ordered the deluxe burger and a 77 Sunset Strip ( Long Island substitute pineapple and grenadine for cola) everything was good the atmosphere is very nice .
