My elderly parents live across the street from here and have been telling us about there favorite Chinese restaurant. So we all stopped by for dinner Saturday night and we had the place to ourselves but I will say the amount of to go orders was insane. Nos let's talk about the food. Location: The restaurant is located in a strip mall so there's parking. However, when I stopped by around 7:15ish it was pretty packed as there are at least two other restaurants. Food & Drink: The food is average and not my favorite. We ordered the crab rangoons, egg drop soup, pepper beef, orange chicken, Hunan style green beans, and fried rice instead of white rice. The egg drop soup was good and pretty standard. The pepper beef had a decent amount of protein to veggie ratio. The green beans were a bit spicy but not bad. The orange chicken was pretty average and comes with very little amounts of broccoli. I think what threw me off the most was their fried rice. It looked like it had been tossed with soy sauce and a ratio of 1 egg to 5 cups of rice. Basically it was just rice and soy sauce with no veggies and barely any egg. It also didn't taste like it had any salt in it (despite it being brown) and instead tasted a bit sweet. Something about it tasted off and it's probably the worst fried rice I've ever had. Service: I ordered takeout so there's not much to say except they got my order right, it took about 15 minutes for it to be ready and pick up was really easy. Fangs has been our go to for 3 years. We would order delivery at least once per month. It has always been hot, fresh and excellent quality. Unfortunately, times have changed. The sushi has been inedible the last 3 orders. The tuna nigiri arrived with freezer burn on the top and it was still hot from the defrosting. The over all quality of the food has dropped significantly. I am providing 3 stars only because I never rated them 5 stars when they were excellent. The last 2 months should be no stars. To fangs, - If you are unable to serve FRESH edible sushi, then, take it off of the menu as opposed to causing sickness. - Focus on the dishes you cook perfectly and purchase the quality ingredients to produce them. We have dined in twice in the past 7 years and picked up food several times. We have chosen delivery in several ocasiona as well. The food has always been very good. However, in the last couple of years the delivery service has been terrible and in decline. This review is not from one incident but a few. The last couple of times we have ordered our wait time has been around 55 minutes but the actual delivery of the food has been soooooo late. Our most recent order was last night. We ordered around 630 and delivery was estimated 757 however we got our food delivered at 840ish pm. We did call twice around 810 and the person answering the phone apologized and said it would be here within 5min. However, when my husband called 12 min after for the second time to check or to cancel our order because we have two children who needed to go to bed and we had been waiting for over an hour; she apologized and we asked her to call the driver to see where they were. We understand delivery is an estimated time however if the food is late over 40+ minutes the estimated time there is something the restaurant needs to fix with their staff scheduling. The customers should be notified of the change in delivery time so they can also be advised and plan accordingly. Our taro smoothie turned out to be taro tea because the ice melted and it was just a very frustrating experience because it wasn't the first time. My go to for Chinese delivery! Why? The excellent service when I phone in my order. It's always polite and always repeated back to me and a total given. AND this seems to be the only place in Texas with actual BBQ Chinese pork fried rice. They also have Chinese sausage fried rice which although salty is delicious! Their egg drop soup and spring rolls are cooked perfectly and the garlic eggplant is amazing! Everything is packaged carefully including their boba drinks. The three stars were doled out very, very reluctantly, mostly because by the end of my meal here, the owner was like an aunt to me. Service was friendly, prompt, and even thoughtful, such as when my server saw that I was dining solitarily with a novel and suggested moving me to another table where there was more reading light. For my meal, I took a chance and strayed far from the more alluring but vegetarian-unfriendly lunch specials. Instead, I opted for an egg drop soup to start and Hunan style sautéed string beans. The egg drop soup was surprisingly thick and viscous, almost resembling a gelatinous porridge rather than a soup. After slurping down a bowl, I'm still not entirely sure if I'm a fan. The string beans were far more solid, having been cooked to a perfect, verdant tenderness and lightly smothered with a black sauce that gestured heavily toward oyster sauce. The sauce was sweeter than I would have preferred and I was slightly disappointed by the lack of spice, especially since the pepper icon on the menu suggestively hinted otherwise. Still, it was a fine meal and a rather generous portion at that, since I had plenty to take home. I used to order from Fang's all the time, but lately their service and food quality has really taken a steep decline. My boyfriend and I tried to have the sushi roll lunch and bourbon chicken. While the hot food was ok, the sushi rolls were abhorrent. The rice was hard, the fillings were bad. The salmon was slimy, the spicy tuna just tasted like spicy cat food. The ginger tasted spoiled and the wasabi was not mixed properly so ended up tasting like tons of horseradish. I barely ate anything. read more

My family ate there recently and we mostly ordered off the standard Chinese menu. Fang's has a very broad menu, covering Chinese, some Asian fusion, and sushi. They offer combination platters in the evening, which is nice if you want some soup and an egg roll with dinner but don't want to order them separately. We had the Hunan Chicken, the Honey Chicken, the Assorted Vegetables, and a Tonkatsu Ramen. Also had the crabmeat rangoons and an egg roll. The egg roll was fine--a bit on the skinny side. The crabmeat rangoons were the usual--cream cheese filling, unlikely any crab was harmed in the process. The entrees met expectations, and were nicely colorful in the vegetable selection. The Tonkatsu Ramen was nicely presented, and the broth had great flavor. But the noodles were kind of dense and sticky, I didn't care for them. One thing that makes Fang's stand out is that they offer a range of desserts. The ice cream desserts are not made in-house, so I didn't try them. But they also have a selection of Asian teas and sweet drinks, and a variety of smoothies. We had the Pineapple and Green Tea smoothies, and they were quite good as a finish to the meal. Others have praised the sushi, so we may not have hit the best of the menu. But what we had was fine. The restaurant has kind of dark furniture and was dimly lit in the evening, so the visuals may be more important in better light. The bathroom was clean and ready. We've been before so we'll probably go again when we're in the mood for Chinese with dessert. read more

My favorite lunch restaurant!! I get the 2 sushi rolls with a soup AND a salad for only about $12. I always end up taking something home because I never finish. The food comes out quick, but the sushi is always made fresh right in the dining area. (Well, the kitchen segment that extends into the dining area so you can watch the chef prepare your sushi rolls) The staff is super sweet and my boyfriend and I have developed a good relationship with them over the years! I have been eating at Fangs since they opened about 10 years ago. The restaurant decor is modern and clean. It's certainly not a dive. It's always clean and the staff is always attentive and pleasant. They take pride in their store and they work hard. The food is fresh. They don't skimp on the quality. They don't overcook. They offer your traditional Chinese American dishes and they offer sushi and more recently, noodles. I think the prices are good for the quality they put out.
