Everything that I have ever ordered from Fancy Lee has been perfect! There sushi is amazing and the bento boxes are great. It is fantastic that you can order grade A food for pickup. Everybody that works there are very welcoming and are so polite. We had a really great dinner here a few weeks ago. Ugh why are sushi prices so damn expensive! But... i digress... The menu was awesome. I really like the fusion options. We ordered a mango chicken dish with vegetables that was really unique, and the portion was huge. Sushi was super fresh, and they gave us a yummy little shummai appetizer for free when we sat down. I struggle with Asian food in this country. I spent about 5 years living in Asia, and when you go to the best Japanese resturants in Japan, it is really hard to find a restaurant that comes even close. Oh and don't get me started with this whole "fusion" thing. Look, Japanese food has a really distinct flavor profile from Thai food, and there are like a billion different kinds of "Chinese" food. Not that you cant blend different cuisines but it is not easy to pull off. I drive by Fancy Lee all the time, but honestly, I can't be bothered to deal with parking in Babylon village so I have never stopped in till today. I thought it was an upscale Chinese restaurant but cracking the menu open, i did not have high hopes for a good dinner. We finally settled on Shrimp in Lobster Sauce, and a "Sweet Roll". The shrimp dish was solid. The texture was right, there were maybe a dozen plump perfectly cooked shrimp and a little noodle action going on in the broth. Now the Sweet Roll. Getting a special roll is unusual for me. I am so often disappointed that i tend to stick to the basics. This roll had shrimp tempura, avocado and i think tuna. It was surprisingly tasty. See, its the little things that asian restaurants fail at here in the states. Like rice. Chinese rice is different from Japanese rice, which is different from sushi rice, which is different from thai rice, you get the picture. Now, no resturant is going to make 5 different kinds of rice, they figure you won't notice. And that extends to things like wasabi and ginger. The rice with the shrimp dish was ok, pretty much what you expect but the wasabi and the ginger were great. The wasabi had the right texture and wasnt gritty and the pickled ginger was the best i had in a long time, spicy, sour, with just the right amout of heat. Pickled ginger is supposed to be a palet cleanser to wake up your taste buds and settle your stomach, and the ginger can ruin sushi for me. All in all, my first time here was a solid experience. I believe this is my favorite restaurant on LI and I wish that I could come here more often, because every time we eat here I ask my husband why we cant just eat here every day. (it's just too damn expensive, realistically) I don't know where to start with the recommendations. The clay pot beef is amazing. Neither of us like onions and didn't realise it was loaded with onions, but it was so good we ate every last one in the dish. Last time we went we ordered a sesame tuna dish and it had mashed potatoes underneath the tuna, which I thought was a weird pairing....but it was not. At all. It was one of the most wonderful things I have ever eaten in my life. They have a full bar here but I've never tried anything other than the sake, although the drinks that come out look delicious. Another nice thing about this place is the staff, we are not their regulars by any means but they remember us when we go. There is definitely a homey feel in this place, especially when the regulars come in; and there appear to be A LOT of regulars. The staff are very attentive to EVERY table and patron though, so you won't be ignored while they chat with people who are there more often. read more

The restaurant is nicely decorated and the waitstaff is extremely attentive. Everyone is super friendly - even the sushi chefs working behind the counter. They give you large portions for reasonable prices, along with a free tempura appetizer. I got the hibachi chicken and just wasn't that crazy abt the chicken or the sauce it came in. The veggies were good. Just not as good as some other places I've gone (for example, tai show in Massapequa is a lot better in my opinion). Food is great but the service is okay. Every time we come here we get an attitude if we ask for more of anything. We ordered take out last night & they argued with us over brown rice which was $2.00 extra. My family spends hundreds of dollars there a month & to argue over $2.00 is not only embarrassing but wrong on their part. The waitresses all have a attitude its a shame b/c the food is really good & to not have customers return due to their attitudes is BAD for business, would def. recommend going to Mushroom a mile down the road for better service or Kotobuki. Not going to return here nor are we ever going to order take out again! Thanks to your staff;s poor attitude you just lost a very good costumer. read more

USED to be one of my favorite sushi spots until my experience last night. Hair in my salad...GROSS the "waiter" didn't even apologize. The strawberry margarita tasted like strawberry mint sprite. The food took AGES to come out. When we finally got our food the chicken was under cooked ... I mean we waited long enough you'd think it would be OVER cooked. When we requested a knife the waiter brought it out DIRTY with old crusty food on it ... how does one miss that. No apologies for that either. Brought out the second knife which was just as dirty as the first one. Not once did our "waiter" come around to check on our table and to see if everything came out OK. When the check came I had to remind our "waiter" to take the hairy salad off the bill ..... OK I'm officially done with this place and i'll just stick to Kotobuki down the block. read more

My girlfriend and I started going here a little over a year ago and now go almost once a week because of how fantastic it is. The food alone is worth the trip but the friendly atmosphere and the amazing staff are the cherry on top. This is now our go to place when friends and family are in town and although we have one of the "best rated sushi place in NY" just around the corner, Fancy Lee delivers food that is just as good, with better service, less arrogance and they don't pack you in to restaurant like a can of sardines. I order from this place twice a week and get the same exact thing every time. I specifically asked for 4 spicy mayos with a sushi order that had 5 rolls I specifically asked for 4 they send me 1 I called right away and the lady started telling me I should pay more attention?!?? Are you kidding me ?? I order twice a week form these jerks and you treat your customer like that. ! I asked for 4 you sent 1 of instead of apologizing you blame me? Then I order a Boston roll And a shrimp tempera roll they literally fall apart once you pick them up they practically stick a whole lettuce stock in the roll. I just came back from a Mothers' Day dinner, which was also my first time at Fancy Lee. I decided to go because a friend recommended it, and I'm glad I did. This is really more of a sushi place with some Chinese and Thai on the menu - but those looking for "typical" restaurant-style Chinese food might be a bit disappointed. That being said, I prefer this over the usual. Though there was a bit of a language barrier with some of the staff, they were very attentive and went out of their way to make sure our meal was great. My only criticism is that the wait between courses was a bit lengthy, but others might see that as a good thing - especially if you don't like to feel "rushed." Anyway - now that I've been here once, I'll certainly be back for more. read more

This place is a wonderful place to get sushi, Thai fusion or a generic Chinese dish like chicken and broccoli. Personally, I go for the sushi! The people who work there are the most friendly/attentive staff I have ever experienced. They always give you an on the house roll which I believe is crabmeat fried in some sort of tempura with a spicy mayo sauce, maybe? All I know is that it is a delicious little starter. I LOVE the vegetable tempura roll. Always fresh and cooked to order! The outside of the restaurant looks like an old diner but the inside is chic and sleek decor. Overpriced, low quality food with no substitutions. I wanted brown rice instead of white rice and the waitress charged me $5.00 extra. I didn't noticed until the bill came, I complained and was told, no substitutions, everything is extra. I order two beers and it came out to $20 bucks, Sapporo's. I could've bought a case. Always fresh sushi (compared to the competitors in the area so thank you thank you thank you)!!! The lunch specials are great esp if you partake in the bento box (sushi, a meal, soup and salad all for under $15). And they DELIVER (well as long as you order $30+ !!!! Yay for sushi delivery! I really don't understand the high reviews. The service was absolutely atrocious, and the food is mediocre. Our waitress, Molly, was rude to us from the minute we sat down. She messed up 3 out of the 4 meals we got, but we ultimately only asked for one to be corrected. We asked for a spicy tuna roll with cucumber. When it came to our table, there were no cucumbers. So, I asked for the roll to please be corrected. Molly replied oh so kindly with "No, you didn't ask for cucumbers". After explaining that we certainly did, she took the plate without saying a word. Then the manager comes and asks us again if we were sure we said with cucumbers (????) and then says she will bring some on the side for us to put in the roll ourselves. We ask for the third time that the roll please just be corrected. At this point we are begging them for a god damn tuna roll with cucumber. Not at any point did anyone apologize. And still our waitress continued to make offhand remarks. So I guess if you're looking for an overpriced plate of mediocre sushi with a side of shitty attitude, Fancy Lee is your place. read more

I have no idea what all the positive reviewers see in this place. Everything we ordered was overpowered with vinegar. Had the orange chicken and pad Thai and both tasted like the rice vinegar was spilled on them. Then, charging $2.50 for each diet coke refill without telling the customer refills are included? Hands down my favorite sushi place. The free appetizer is delicious and a nice touch for a place in Babylon village. I love the food, many options for vegetarians as well as everyone else. My favorite rolls include, sweet plus, foxy lady, st patricks, and black n pink. The service is always very friendly and efficient. Recently opened in a former diner across the street from the Babylon movie theater. Everything is very spiffy and shiny with a renovation. They serve Japanese, Chinese, and Thai dishes. The depth of the menu seems to be greatest in the Japanese department. The sushi was just average, but the stars were the Chinese wok dishes, particularly the black pepper steak cubes, where the steak was tender, tasty, and cooked just right. We had gone looking for generic Chinese food - some of the other usual places we have been going in Babylon and West Islip seem to have gone downhill lately. Fancy Lee is not generic Chinese; the menu is a carefully selected subset of that and the dishes more carefully prepared. A bit more expensive than a generic Chinese place. You get what you pay for here. This looks like a good place to eat before or after a movie. read more

Took the family here last night for the first time. My kids (7 & 9) are really not into Chinese food, but they were here. They would have licked the plate if we let them. Lol. We started off with won ton soup and the house appetizer (crab with cream cheese tempura). Then ordered chic with broc , gen tso chix and the pineapple chicken fried rice (awesome display, half cut hollowed out pineapple). Then order some sushi rolls for my wife which she really enjoyed. The staff was awesome very friendly. Only 2 drawback, 1 it says delivery but they only deliver if they have extra staff and they are not to busy. 2 a little on the expensive side to put in the weekly rotation, but portion were a nice size. Worst service I've ever had. Sushi wasn't fresh. My husband asked for chopsticks twice and the waitress never brought them. She started setting up other tables when she reached the table next to us only then did she give us the chopsticks. When we got the bill my husband had the check snatched out of his hand from a man with no acknowledgement. We didn't leave a tip because of the horrible service and were then followed to our car and were asked why a tip wasn't left so I explained why I didn't leave a tip. The sushi is so so fresh and the fusion dishes are amazing - there's something for everyone at Fancy Lee. Lee is the nicest, most congenial host, and he only hires staff that follows his lead (Susie!). They can get packed on weekends, but it's worth the wait. Called before showing up on a Friday night to see if they could make any truly vegetarian entrees. I was told that my only options were sushi, as all the other dishes that could be modified with tofu, would still not be vegetarian and would include fish sauce etc. (just thought I should warn my fellow vegetarians out there). We still went because the sushi reviews were positive. I thoroughly enjoyed my sweet potato roll, (no eel sauce), and my avocado roll. It is hard to mess up vegetarian sushi, but darn was theirs extra delicious. Fiancé devoured the complimentary starter we received once we sat down at the bar.
