This is a great place to grab some sushi! I'm so dissapointed they got rid of the exotic sushi flight but I tried some a la carte pieces that were still good. I tried one of their specialty rolls called Carnival and it was so amazing!! My waiter Kevin was super friendly and gave such great recommendations! Great service will always make me return to a restaurant.
Just when everything is perfect...you get an incredible surprise and find this place. Sushi made perfectly and fish is without a doubt the freshest. You must come!
I had a memorable Valentine's Day dinner here. Recently-seated diners were made to feel at home with some towels to cleanse their hands and some sesame noodles to whet their appetite. The service was accommodating and quick. Hands down, Kotobuki wins for one of the best places to go for some fresh, authentic and creatively-prepared sushi. I had the Crazy Salmon hand roll--my go-to order here for over 15 years. Today all women were presented with a single red rose after dinner. Lore says that that gift is symbolic of love at first sight. My experience today at Kotobuki surpassed my expectations. I highly recommend this top-notch sushi place.
I have been wanting to come here for over 20 years, since I moved out to LI. I'm not sure why I never came. I guess it's because I didn't think I could get in, knowing that it's very popular and packed. So I came at 12 Noon and this is a great time. It was so delightful it was a top notch experience from beginning to end. I ordered a popular appetizer called, "Spicy Tuna Pizza". It was so delicious. They take sushi rice and put it between two pieces of seaweed and then deep fry it. They then top it with tuna and crabmeat. The "crust" is very thin and crispy, hence the pizza name. Creative play on textures and who doesn't love pizza?! I would order again. Then I had the, "Carnival Roll" which was made with tuna, jalapeño, pickled onion and some other stuff I can't remember. Very fresh. I was torn between this roll and the Grinch. I was happy with my decision but I would definitely want to come back to try the Grinch roll, and so many other items too. There are so many interesting rolls and a wide variety of everything from which to choose, not just sushi and sashimi. My dining partner had the oysters in garlic appetizer. OMG. I do not even like oysters at all but the waiter suggested I try it and am I glad I did! They was lightly fried and cooked to perfection. They were not slimy or tough, The two textures I've ever had trying oysters. So when I fit into an oyster, I was shocked. It was almost creamy. And then they sit in an oyster shell in a beautiful garlic sauce. I am a convert and may only eat oysters here. The service was great and I love the decor, with its minimalist Japanese sensibility. OK, I guess by now you can tell I really liked this place. I now know why it was named the number one restaurant on Long Island for many many years, back when there was no Yelp and Zagats was how we found out where to get good eats.
Came to this location ( Babylon ) to try it out. Like the one in Smithtown but it was a bit far from where I was coming from. The sign was a little hard to see since it was dark but you're at the right place if you see the black awnings atop the windows. Got to the restaurant at around 6:15pm and there was ample seating available. So glad we didn't have to wait at all. It did get pretty full soon after. Service was fine and our waiter was friendly and attentive. Came around often to fill our teas and water glasses. Very helpful when asking for suggestions. Highly recommend the sushi pizza as an appetizer! It had a crunchy crust made of rice and seaweed. The topping was really delicious! Because it was cold outside, one of us ordered an udon soup bowl with chicken. We didn't realize how big the order was otherwise we would not have ordered more food. We shared it and still had leftovers. So we had it wrapped for take home. Our second entree was a combo of 2 rolls (Caterpillar and Crazy ). The avocado topping was fresh and plentiful so it was very filling. All of the food were very fresh and tasty. Will return when I get a chance. You won't be disappointed, definitely give this place a try.
I thought this place was really good. The food was really good. My girlfriend and I agreed that the fish tasted very fresh. I specifically thought the salmon tasted really fresh. The spicy tuna was also very good. The service was great. The server did a good job. The place was packed so that was a good sign. My girlfriend ordered some sort of Sake which was actually really good. I also thought it was cool how they give you hot towels. Id definitely come back again.
Food was great. Staff was friendly. Interior was small but didn't ever get too loud and was very nice. Our waiter was super nice and offered to refill my soup with more broth since I had alot of the noodles and veggies left but ran out of broth. The food was fresh and delicious and they give you complimentary noodles and hand towels when you first sit down which is a great addition. Would definitely come back.
Enjoyed lunch today with my sister. Excellent service, excellent fresh fish, excellent sauté oysters in a butter sauce to die for. Lunch special main dishes come with miso soup and salad with ginger dressing. You can't beat the lunch price of $16. Always request a side of spicy mayo, way better than soy sauce for dipping. This place would be my last meal request before I meet the Maker upstairs.
Hi fellow Yelpers! It's been a minute since I have done the review thing on here, and I'm actually shocked and dismayed (dramatic, I know), that I NEVER wrote a glowing review for my favorite restaurant ever -- Kotobuki, which is nestled in the heart of Babylon Village. (I'm pretty sure my profile photo is me at Kotobuki, FYI.) I was recently there celebrating an anniversary dinner, and there was no time like the present to eat half my body weight in super delicious sushi. I can gush about this place over and over, and throughout the years, I have sampled so much of what Kotobuki does best on Long Island -- fresh sashimi, delectable nigiri, and beloved sushi rolls. (This place definitely has lots of history for me, so it's a nostalgic spot as well!) We started out with an appetizer of the most incredible spicy tuna crispy rice (the best version of this I've had), and then we gorged on the sushi platter for 2. Think smooth sashimi, silky nigiri, special rolls, and little decadent touches that come with this platter, too, like the salmon carpaccio, kani salad, and my personal FAVE, the fried oysters in this garlic butter miso broth. (I need this oyster broth daily.) There's a reason why Kotobuki is always a go-to for special occasions, or even nights out when we order small from the sushi bar (their toro is a dream) and simply want the best Japanese cuisine on Long Island. read more

I've been back at Kotobuki a few more times since my initial review and appreciate the continuous great service and the good sushi. Shoutout to Kevin who is a great waiter and always has strong recommendations. Ask him about the items they have available but aren't on the menu! Tip: They can be get busy sometimes so be sure to avoid peak times or get there early. read more

My fave sushi spot. They have multiple locations. Roslyn is great as well as Hauppauge. I have been to all of them. Consistently good sushi at all of them. This is for the Babylon location. I alway get the tuna or the Salmon Carpaccio. It's outstanding. For rolls i get a crazy salmon or crazy tuna roll as well as tuna or salmon carpaccio roll. All the rolls here are huge and the fish is always fresh. Depending on time you show up can be a wait. read more

Shrinkflation has hit this place hard. Same price as before but 50% of previous portion. That's all fine and good except they have not bothered to update their menu photos. Thus created blatant FALSE ADVERTISING. Will not be going back. Before (still in menu) & Actual item photos included (August 2024) read more
Being in Babylon I'm not always sure where to go for a bite to eat, but I'm learning! So far Out of the few spots for sushi that I have been (gee there's a lot in that town) Kotobuki is my favorite! What makes Kotobuki one of my favorites, or any place for that matter, is having things that are just a little different than your typical spot, in this case it's the fresh and delicious sushi rolls, the sweet seared Chilean sea bass, the yummy af ramen, and the entire experience I had at lunch yesterday. I'm dying to go back already not even 24 hours later; I had the leftover ramen for breakfast, and I'm gonna go nap to dream about the rest of the expansive menu. read more

I have been going here for years and always considered It the best sushi around however this is now the second time I ordered out from them and the quality has gone down the drain. The rainbow tatar looks and tastes like canned tuna. The lettuce in the tuna avocado salad I got was rotten. Its a shame because I used to love this place, I hope they can fix their issues read more

Hands down the best sushi/ fish spot I personally have ever been to. Both location ( nyc and Long Island ) the fish is always fresh, service is phenomenal, fried banana was also delicious. I have no complaints for this spot, it is always our go to when we are in the area. Suggested : K Mac sliders, yellowtail jalapeño, fried oysters, crazy tuna roll, fried banana dessert. read more
Sushi Lovers!!! This place is calling your name!! It was my first time at Kotobuki. This Babylon location is a bit of a drive away for me (an hour away to be exact) but let me tell you... I'd probably even drive two hours to come to this place!! Lol The first thing that I absolutely need to talk about is the "Spicy Tuna Pizza"!!! It's an appetizer. But that dish was sooooo good that I had to add an order of it for my main course as well (don't judge me). I'm a sucker for shredded crab salad and this hit the spot like nothing before. It's a must try!! Okay, now that the most important thing is out the way, I can talk about the rest of my experience. Anything that you plan to order is SUPER FRESH, and that is a major deal breaker when it comes to sushi. It was a very clean and quiet setting. Our server KEVIN made a long lasting impression on us. He was friendly, professional and very personable which enhanced our experience. Definitely coming back!! ... and not just for the Spicy Tuna Pizza. LOL. Oh, and don't forget to get the Lychee Martini! read more

I love this place so much I almost wish I never found it, cause now I can't get enough. The place is a little hard to find because there isn't a huge sign outside, so look for black awnings. I hear it gets PACKED. We got here right when they opened, and towards the end of our meal every table was filled. So call before hand and make a reservation. Food: I understand why so many people love it here. Every roll we had was amazing, but my obsession here is the Spicy Tuna PIZZA SUSHI APP. It has crab all over the top, warm crunchy on the bottom, it is fantastic. After finishing one, we ordered another. Should have got one to go lol. (Jk) The Holy Tuna and the Gold Coast rolls were both mouthwatering, and I'd recommend them. Drinks, we ordered a round of lychee martinis. We all loved our martinis. They were strong and fresh. You will not be disappointed. Service, shout out to our server Kevin (Laurent). Attentive, kind, and funny. Thank you for a good time. We will be back here soon. Take all our money, it's fine :) read more
The place was pretty busy but staff was attentive. We stopped by and ordered miso soup and crab salad. Miso soup was really great so flavorful. Crab salad was missing something plenty of crab and mayo just needed something crunchy on it. We ordered two rolls carnival and Gold Coast both rolls were great! There were more items we wanted to try but we were off to another location. Definitely will be back! read more

This is the real deal! One of the best sushi restaurants I have eaten in. I travel the country and have eaten in many great restaurants but I was super impressed with this menu and the quality of the food. You must get the oysters. I also loved the yellowtail jalapeño it was so fresh and the flavors were vibrant. The spicy tuna crispy rice was also very tasty. Everything we had was amazing. read more
