One of the nicest restaurants in the Whitewater area! The food is always delicious and the atmosphere is so pretty. The servers are also great! On our last visit, we enjoyed their tomato soup, as well as penne Ala vodka with chicken and fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. They also have great salads and desserts. We reviewed their lunch menu after the meal, and may try one of their sandwiches on our next visit. This is great place to stop if visiting a student at UW-Whitewater or for a special occasion. First time here. We came to town to see a show at the UWW Young Theatre. Food: The menu offers a great selection of beverages and classic Italian dishes. With Valentine's Day approaching, they also had some special drinks. I ordered the "Italian Connection," a simple cocktail made with brandy, amaretto, and Bordeaux cherries. It both smelled and tasted wonderful. Complimentary breadsticks were brought out along with plates of olive oil and parmesan. They arrived nice and warm, and more were brought out during the meal. Knowing the entrées were generously sized and that we wanted dessert, we skipped appetizers. Our entrées also came with salads. The four of us ordered Chicken Piccata, Puttanesca with Meatballs, Portobello Ravioli, and Chicken Francese. The salads were good, though not exceptional. My Puttanesca was a bit spicier than expected, but it was excellent. The meatball was firm, the sauce slightly chunky, everything was served hot, and the portions were generous. I also sampled the Chicken Piccata and Chicken Francese, both of which were extremely tender and very flavorful. Since we saved room for dessert, we ordered the Peanut Butter Cheesecake and the Lemon Berry Mascarpone Cake. Both were very good and a nice way to finish the meal. Service: From the time we arrived until we left, we were well taken care of. We had reservations and were seated right away. Our server, Anna, was friendly, knowledgeable, and very attentive, with lots of genuine smiles and conversation. There was always someone checking on water refills and bringing extra breadsticks. My one complaint was the pacing of the meal. We were in no hurry and specifically mentioned at the beginning that we wanted a relaxed experience. That was going well until our entrées arrived while we were still in the middle of our salads. Our server apologized, but there was simply too much food to fit on the table. Some of us quickly finished our salads to make room, which was exactly what we were hoping to avoid. Atmosphere: The restaurant is located in a small indoor mall in the "downtown" area, alongside other restaurants and businesses. You enter through the mall, where there are some dining tables, and then into the restaurant itself, where we were seated. Inside, the restaurant is set up with tables that have views of the street and offers a nice, relaxing ambiance. While we were there, the restaurant became quite busy. It was noisy, but we were still able to have conversations. The temperature inside the restaurant was comfortable, though the mall area felt a bit cool for diners seated there. Overall, it was a very good experience. I would have appreciated the pacing of the food to better match the relaxed atmosphere, especially since I had mentioned that preference at the start of the meal. Nice people, excellent food, inventive drinks, and a comfortable environment. I would definitely stop again. read more

We passed through the area and saw the good reviews for this place. It was before the dinner rush, but the place filled up quickly. Our waiter, Devin, was friendly, courteous and attentive. My mother raved over the Brandy Alexander and the real whipped cream. I had the eggplant parm and the others all had the ravioli that they liked. On a recent visit to see Mom and Dad in Fort Atkinson, we decided to give this place a try. This has got to be one of the best Italian restaurants that I have ever eaten at. I can't believe this gem is located in Whitewater, Wisconsin. For appetizers, we had the Bruscheta and the Calamari. For entrees, Mom had the Chicken Parmesan. Dad had the Chicken Frances. My wife had the Fettuccine Alfredo. I had the Portabello Ravioli. For dessert, we had Cannoli and Tiramisu. Every dish was EXCELLENT and was on par with what you would find in major cities like New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles. The service staff were also excellent and very attentive. We were coming in from out of town and needed a place to host a wrap dinner for our client and crew after a week-long photoshoot. We also wanted to have Italian food catering for a few nights while in Whitewater at UWW. This was probably the best dinner catering we've ever had, and everything Fanatico prepared for us (including the incredible cakes for dessert) was top notch, some of the best food we've had, period. Eating at the actual restaurant is next-level. Great ambiance and perfect for date night, or family gathering (both big or small). Service was amazing, and I would like to call out especially Estella's service in particular. From the moment I first called the restaurant from long distance, she took the time and then some to answer every single one of my questions. It became clear to me that this wasn't just one of the best Italian restaurants in Whitewater, it is one of THE best restaurants in the entire Midwest! I've been a customer since they opened and owners Benny and Kiki had time to walk around and meet and greet their customers. I've seen their business grow, as they purchased the building where the restaurant is located and opened a pizzeria next door and another restaurant in Milton. Our daughter had her wedding rehearsal dinner at Fanatico banquet room. I came back from a long work assignment and saw the restaurant seating expanded to sitting out in the hallway. No ambiance there. I asked to be seated in the original restaurant. We waited 1/2 an hour for our appetizer and the server had the nerve to say it's coming. Can't you see we're busy. Over an hour passed and no entree, no server check in. Server came over after an hour and said sorry for the wait. But still no food. She told us we'd be waiting longer. We asked for her to check on our food and advised if it's not coming in short order, we'd pass on our dinner. She came back a few minutes later and said it wasn't ready and asked us to wait longer. We asked for our check. She asked if we wanted our food to go? Why wait at a restaurant to eat there, and then agree to wait longer to take our food home and eat it there? We declined. We had ordered one beer and calamari. $27.00 and over an hour wait. I'm so disappointed in my experience. We think of the owners as friends, but this server and this experience hurt. I'm happy for your success but disappointed in the lack of emotional intelligence from your staff. I'll take another long break before I go back. I'm sure I won't be missed. Love this place. Stopped here on the way back from Madison. Had a hankering for Italian food. Our server was very cordial and knowledgeable about the menu. He made several recommendations. Started out with the calamari and bruschetta appetizers. Each of us had a glass of Pinot noir. Our salads were delicious. For the main course I had the Ravioli Italiano (consisting of cheese ravioli, and homemade sauce, topped with homemade Italian sausages). Topped the dinner off with a cup of cappuccino and a cannoli. We were in town for an event at UWW, and stopped here for dinner early on a Saturday night. There is street parking out front, but if you turn around the corner, there is a good size public parking lot behind the restaurant. Much easier to park there! From the breadsticks to the tiramisu, one recurring comment that was said during our meal was, "wow, this is much better than Olive Garden". So glad we stopped in. I would recommend making reservations for dinner, as the seating is a little limited. We ordered the bruschetta, soup, wedge salads, ravioli, and rigatoni. Everything was fabulous, and we greatly appreciated the reasonable serving sizes. Too many Italian restaurants give ridiculously mammoth serving sizes, but this place provided just the right amount. The highlight for me was the rigatoni w/sausage and the accompanying marinara. I could eat a serving of the marinara by itself! Spicy and flavorful! The service was the tops. Our waitress was attentive, friendly, and helpful. Keep in mind that this is a fancy Italian restaurant, and a bit pricey compared to other restaurants in the area, and may warrant $$$ instead of $$ if you decide to order wine and dessert. Cute place, but our first visit was not good. Saturday night and the place was busy but there were at least three tables available and no line of people waiting. We were greeted right away and taken to a table in the main dining room. A few minutes later the server told us someone else was supposed to have that table, so we were moved to a table out in the hallway (an extension of the restaurant that is made to look like a charming sidewalk cafe). No big deal, though the hallway was far from the main dining room and very cold especially whenever anyone walked in the door. We just kept our jackets on. We ordered as soon as the server arrived and got drinks, salads and breadsticks after about twenty minutes. Breadsticks were slightly burnt but still good enough, and the salads were simple and fresh with a variety of spring greens. Twenty minutes after that, the server returned to say they were out of the vegetable of the day but would substitute another one (fine with us, we like all veggies!). An hour passed and when the server came back to the table, it became clear that the order hadn't been put in after the question about the veggies. I would assume shepherding the orders is the server's responsibility, and she was very apologetic but said it would be another 20 minutes for our food. By that time we were ravenous, and the food was OK -- hot and tasty enough but nothing special. I assume the kitchen had to rush to prepare it for us before they closed for the night. Fanatico offered to comp our meals, so I give them credit for stepping up that way. (This would have been a one or two star rating otherwise.) We left some $$$ on the table anyway since we did eat (eventually). Manager stopped over to apologize but said she had no idea why the timing was so messed up, which was very odd . . . I would have thought the staff would have clued her in before she came over to us. If I was managing the place, I'd try to resolve some communication gaps -- never should an order get sidelined the way ours did, and the managers should be fully aware of what is happening (or at least make it their business to find out before they approach a customer). In any case, a bad first experience with the restaurant but they recognized there was an issue even without us complaining and then they did what they could to make up for it. I "might" give them another try since it looks like one of the better options in the area, but only on a night that was not very busy. read more
