I moved to Montclair about a year ago and tried 2 or 3 nails shops that claimed to know how to do ombre nails...and didnt. I walked into Famous Nails about 4 months ago to get my eyebrows done, and Linda greeted me and instantly made me feel welcome and not like a "new customer". When she told me she knew how to do ombre nails, I told her I would be back (I still had the failed attempt of nails from one of the other shops). Sure enough, Linda went above and beyond to make sure I didnt just like my nails, but that I LOVED them. I've gone back for fills and fresh sets ever since. And just to clarify, I dont get new sets bcuz of poor quality...I just like to get new sets after one fill. Tonight I went back for removal and new set. Linda suggested I try her cappuccino gel/powder and she added a couple of gems (pictured) and I'm in love with the end result. She knows I prefer a thin and sleek look to my nails, and she nails it every time (no pun intended). This was my first time going to Famous nails as I had a real bad experience at my usual go to place. From the first encounter with the shop owner, Linda, I felt very welcomed. She was super friendly and helpful and took care of my nails with gentleness as she was using the drill. I was very satisfied with the design she did based off a picture. Today I came into this nail salon for the first time, normally I would go to a different nail salon. Helen did my gel manicure and pedicure, I'm very happy that I came in. She did a great job, I normally suffer from getting ingrown nails on my toes. She was able to take out my ingrown nails and it wasn't as painful. This place is very clean and the owner Linda is really nice. Overall I paid $52 I thought it wasn't bad at all. I will be returning and thanks again Helen for my manicure and pedicure. read more

Salon is messy, dusty and unorganized. I just moved to the area so I was looking for a new nail salon. I asked for a gel manicure and was told $15, which is a good deal considering I usually pay $20. Jimmy began working on my nails and I noticed he wasn't soaking, cutting of shaping my nails. When I asked about this, jimmy informed me it was $15 just for the gel on the nails and an extra $9 for the "manicure" part! I had never heard of this being a separate charge since I asked for a " gel manicure". At this point I was already upset so I just asked him to wrap up and paid the $15. Worst nail experience I have ever had in my life. If you want to go somewhere that is unprofessional, dirty, and where the price of your pedicure will all of a sudden change at checkout, then this is the place for you! All throughout the service, the workers were attempting to sell banana bread along with attempting to give away a stray dog. After telling the workers "no, thank you" they were persistent in asking us if we wanted to take the dog. Clearly they don't understand the word "no," because as they were attempting to upsell our pedicure choice, they ended up charging us for the higher one anyways. We chose the $30 pedicure, so please tell me why the price jumped up to $50? We didn't even receive the "mint exfoliation" that was supposedly a part of the one we chose. This place deserves negative stars. Do yourself a favor, save your time and money and go someplace better. read more

Went to get a gel pedicure, I believe Kelly did it, she made sure to really clean up around my nails and make sure they were as close to perfect as possible and really friendly. They were short staffed when I went but were very friendly and welcoming, also I thought the price was affordable, for a gel pedicure anyway. I will be going back soon to get a full set. read more

Came here accidentally with my mom, my sister and my Nana. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. After my nails were painted the first time they seemed to bubble and wrinkle, I'm not sure if it was the gel coat that they used, but the man who did my nails saw while I was signing the receipt and insisted that he fix them. So he stripped the nail polish and painted them for me again. Two coats of polish and two coats of gel. My mom got her eyebrows done and they came out great she was very happy with her service as was I. I was disappointed by their color selection and originally I had wanted ombré nails and they said they could not do them. So I'm giving this place a 4/5 for those reasons but I probably will come back! read more

Never coming back here. I asked for a simple gel design nothing crazy and the man working their seems to only do one coat color. He was quite friendly I'll give him that but he filed my nails so rough and when he was done sprayed them with alcohol so many times that my skin began to bleed. So after him trying to do the simple design I wanted for about an hour I gave up and said just forget it give me one color basic nails because I wanted to get the hell out of this place being their two hrs for a gel manicure! To say the least, i went in about a month ago for a youtube challenge for certain nails and left with something i did not want because the owner was telling me that what i wanted was ugly,that she could not do it AND i left with THREE CUTS from how much she kept filling my nails after they would make it so bulky. I also got a pedicure because i love to match my nails with my toes. My big toe had acrylic and she refilled the acrylic on my toe very bulky!! because it was bulky she kept filling so much she made a thick deep cut into my toe. I started tearing, the owner noticed and after a while of me flinching and saying ouch she came back and just asked "are you ok now". EVEN after all that i paid full price for BOTH. and left a honest review of their salon on my youtube video FREEDOM OF SPEECH. I guess the owner viewed the video and reached out to me through dm calling me stupid and telling me i spread nasty lies about her business AND that i "stole" her pedicure which is not true. NEVER COMING BACK and i hope no one has an experience like mine.. read more

I saw the barbershop was still active with customers I took my chance .. I'm sorry, I really wasn't or didn't want to write a review only because the lady who did my nails was so sweet and welcoming but once my nails diamonds started falling off two days after I got them, and I had tons of glue on them that ruined the whole nail, I had to write one. I'm giving two stars because Linda is so caring and nice, willing to work with you and super welcoming. The man who did my pedicure was also very sweet and welcoming. I went in for a full set and pedi, and I've been here once before but I most likely won't go back just because I wasn't happy with how my nails turned out. and the upselling is kind of annoying, when customers know what they want usually when they go in there but they just keep pushing it and can't even do the designs correctly. the only thing that kinda irritated me was how they kept saying they're prices are better then other places, but obviously by the pictures below the other places do it correctly so I don't complain about how much I pay if I like how it looks. Coloring and shape was great, she kept checking on if the shape was okay with me. I let her know I only wanted a gel set, she kept pushing for me to get a design, so I finally agreed to getting my ring finger dipped. when she did it, it looks great but for some reason she kept putting gloves of glue on my nail she said she would shave it and make it look pretty. Well lol. As u can see by the pics , they don't look anything like I wanted. not to mention I kept getting cut by the nail filer. my nails were left so lumpy. A couple times she kept trying to say she was done when there was obviously big lumps still all over the nail. I had to tell her where she missed. but I'm not the type to complain or sit there and make them re do it, especially because I was in a rush. but I didn't think she would charge me full price for something that looked so horrible. or I would think she would've said "let me re do this" but no. I was charged $75 for a set and pedi I wasn't happy with. I should've just got a regular gel set but instead listened to the upsell and got stuck. but, like I said she was really sweet and the workers are sweet as well. Would I go back? No, just for the way the finishing touch went. I'm sure if I would have asked her to take off and re do she would've but I was already there for two hours and just wanted to go .
