I don't know whats happening to the staff, but standing around talking about what happened last night did not impress me or my husband. I came for date night. I ordered ribs and sides. It was ok I guess, but the slaw was so bland and the ribs were tough. I told the waiter and he didn't care. He went back talking to his friend. I will never go back again. EVER! The service is always so good, but honestly, the quality has gone downhill the past year. The fries are not hot, like they were premade and being kept warm. The macaroni and cheese side dish was cold; the Wilbur beans have been switched over to the standard, canned baked beans with some bacon thrown in; had they been warmer, the ribs would have been fine. Famous Dave's is a good choice imho. Some places you just know you can count on. Mostly this review is to express frustration in how the Host/hostess chooses to seat people. I for one Never want to be piled up with all the other diners when there is obviously room to spread us out. My latest visit had us with our kids and our especially loud and emotional (spoiled) grandson ( age 3). Never seat families with small children next to diners who are not likewise burdened. For the comfort of both parties, it would be so much better to seat the young children away from. Teach this to your young employees please. read more

Had never been to Famous Dave's since living in Billings, got a gift card and was excited to try. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor and ambiance is fun and has a 50's hunting trip vibe with old paintings of deer hunting, vintage thermoses, and antler decorations. The inside is like a hunting lodge.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was attentive and friendly and they have a good selection of draft beer (no cocktails like some other sit down places FYI) So on to the food! We ordered a rack of ribs and a rib and brisket meal between the two of us. The brisket was tender and tasted good if a bit saltier than I would have preferred, and all the sides were really well seasoned and delicious (beans, coleslaw, cornbread muffins) but the ribs which were the main event were unfortunately pretty tough. You really want ribs to be "fall off the bone" and these were not. The rub and sauce were great, and if the texture was dialed in they could've been awesome but they weren't that enjoyable. Maybe just a miss for them, but to have mediocre ribs as a "legendary BBQ" place is weak sauce. Our server steered us towards the scratch made in-house bread pudding for dessert. If the ribs were lacking the correct texture, the bread pudding nailed it. Super silky, served with a delicious caramel pecan sauce and generous scoop of vanilla ice cream and whipped cream too! read more

11/12/24 The hostess tonight was giving very rude looks to me and my friend out to dinner. As we gave a glance back she then proceeded to go to the back and have a man come stand upfront with her, the 2 then began walking laps around us, continuing to stare. As we paid the tab to leave because we were so uncomfortable the male that she went to the back and grabbed stood at the back of the bar with his arms crossed and watched us leave. As we were walking out the door our waiter then said i don't know why she is acting like that she has a black child. So this whole incident could have happened because my friend is native american and/or we appear to be apart of the LGBTQ+ community. We decided to have our company Christmas party at this restaurant. We phoned to make reservations and they said they didn't do reservations and that it was just first come first served. They told us if some of our party came ahead of time that they would then set up for all of us. My family and I family arrived about 1/2 an hour early. We told them that we were the party of 19 and they prepared to set up tables. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They went and talked to the manager and she came out and said that we could have two separate booths and they would also set up 3 tables in a row. This wasn't acceptable because we wanted to be together.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The last time we had had our Christmas party at Famous Dave's they set up all the tables in a long row but we were told that that section of the restaurant was closed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It seemed very obvious that we could just use it because many times restaurants will set up a separate room for larger groups. She said there was no servers working in that section, which was right beside the section that everybody else was seated in, and that it was closed. She would give no explanation as to why it couldn't be used other than it was "closed". And I did ask more than once throughout the conversation because I just couldn't make sense of it and was being offered no explanation. And when I asked if we could just set up more tables in a row in the section where they did want to seat us, instead of using the two separate booths, she said it would be too far for them to walk around. I kid you not!! And then we get the bill and they automatically put on an 18% tip. Our server was OK but after the way their manager treated us I certainly didn't want to be giving them a great big tip. The food was good but this manager should not be in the service industry. Even her body language matched her nasty tone of voice. Last Christmas party that our company will be spending at Famous Daves. read more

We have lived in Billings, Montana for 2 years and NEVER tried this place. Frankly Billings, Montana has some of the worst food I have ever had! Famous Dave's is not one of those, we got our food to go and it was as good as it gets! We asked for enough food for 8 people and we got all that and more. The pulled pork was great, ribs, brisket was so tender and the corn all delicious! The beans!!! delicious, the coleslaw was flavorful. Tasty stuff! I've tried most everything on the menu since this place opened. Best Lemonade around that I've tried. BBQ Chicken is perfect. Haven't tried the baked chicken. The variety of different ribs are each better than average. Not too fat or salty. On occasion I've thought some of the ribs were over cooked. Half a dozen or so sauces ranging from mild to make my nose run, all very tasty. The Smoked Links are perfect, every time. I need to try the catfish one of these days but have yet to get past the items above. Mac&Cheese is better than good. BBQ Beans are better than good. Potato Salad is a favorite. Good place for some BBQ! I don't understand why this place gets a bad rap on Yelp. The service was very good and the waitresses here are very curious and helpful. I am and have been a spectacular BBQ cook for about 29 years. I have successfully ran my catering business for 25 years and I under no circumstances will ever step foot in any Famous Dave's again. I ordered for my wife while on Vacation and this is what I ordered. Two meat combo with sliced beef and sausage with fries and a side salad. Let's start with the brisket - no smoke flavor , too salty and the intramuscular fat was way to rubbery to be considered enjoyable and there were only two slices. The sausage was strange to say the least. It wasn't the worst sausage but had no smoke and was charred to death. It was the strange flavor that killed it. The salad was ok and the fries were just fries. The counter attendant was really nice so there was that. Eat if you want but it is some crappy Q at the best. read more
