Every time we come in it feels so comforting just walking in; the food is 10 times better. The shrimp and grits is always my go to. I have had the gumbo, red beans and rice, crawfish Étouffée it's ALL good. Every time I come here I leave needing a nap because I ate so good. read more

I was in Billings working last week and the name alone was intriguing enough to check out the menu online and head over for dinner. The food was outstanding! I had the crabcakes and the blackened shrimp pasta, and both were incredible! If my travels ever take me back to Billings, I will definitely visit again. I highly recommend Cajun Phatty's! 10/10! read more

This was my 3rd attempt. No More! The service was below standards and the food was mid.

I went to Cajun Phatty's for a lunch during the week with some work mates. The staff was friendly. They accommodated our group of 6 without an issue. I got the Blackened Shrimp with Andouille Pasta. It was a large portion with plenty of decently cooked shrimp. Everyone got large portions and all the food was prepared well. I think this is a great option if you're in the area and want something other than national chain fast food or pizza. This is not a complaint but our server, who seemed like the most tenured server in the restaurant, frequently had to tell customers the salad dressing options, which if I remember right there were three. One of them was a Balsamic Vinaigrette, but she called it "Balsamic Vinegar-Et." Just for anyone and maybe that server you don't say the whole word "vinegar" when saying "vinaigrette", it's vina-gret. read more

RUN, don't walk, to Cajun Phatty's! We had the crab cakes, fried green tomatoes, the shrimp platter, and the southern green beans. I have not had such a delectable and sublime meal in ages. Everything was top notch amazing. The service was impeccable. The decor was so fun and the music was great. read more

Great waitress and great breakfast. Plan on returning soon. We went as a group and service was fluid.

Didn't expect to be eating a lobster and shrimp roll in Montana, but here I am and it's delicious! I've eaten lobster rolls in Massachusetts, New York, and Maryland and this is every bit as good as the ones from near the coast right down to the split roll and the seasoning. Crispy fries and yummy dipping sauce as well. Dessert? The bread pudding, y'all! This place never disappoints with great food and friendly service. One of my favorite spots in Billings. read more

Excellent food!!!!! And service!!!! I had the seafood bisque (AMAZING!!!) and the Shrimp Etoufee. My husband had the Jambalaya. All the food was so flavorful and you can pick the amount of heat. Our server was Amy and she was very friendly and quite funny. We'll definitely be back. I'm looking forward to trying other dishes and the beignets. read more

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed dinner here. We both had shrimp poboys, followed by some of the best mud pie I've tasted. We highly recommend this eatery! read more

We had the Chicken and Sausage gumbo. Excellent meal with incredible flavor. Fantastic Service and great people.

Food was so good absolutely the best food I've had out west at a restaurant. The Shrimp & Grits and The Crab boil were excellent choices. The food was fresh and cooked to order made by scratch. The salad was beautiful. The people who served us were so accommodating and their suggestions were spot on. It is a cute little restaurant with a nice atmosphere. I would differently recommend eating there. Everything on the menu looked scrumptious I can't wait to try the cat fish. Everything is cooked to order. read more

Cajun Phatty's - Shrimp and Grits & Crab Boil - Cajun/Creole Near Me - Billings, Montana

Starting off on a positive note- food was great. No complaints. We ordered a variety of things, all of which were good down to the tea. I think almost anything on the menu would be a safe bet, everything we got was above average, especially for cajun food outside of the south. I don't necessarily like having to write about the service at restaurants. I've worked in the food industry before and know how exhausting and daunting it can be. That said, service was mediocre. Staff did not seem happy to be there whatsoever, the hostess had a snappy attitude when we walked in right off the bat. I totally understand that people have bad days, that includes while at work, but when the hostess' attitude mixed with the below average service by our waitress and another staff member that seemed to not really be working, talking loudly and arguably unprofessionally, it does create a negative ambiance to the place. It's already quite small and cramped which is fine, if there's a welcoming atmosphere by staff. There unfortunately was not. read more

Not close to Authentic, Been there, some of my family is Cajun, The cooking eating at the same time he was making my food didn't help

Note: This was a take-out order so the review is about the food. There is indoor and outdoor seating. After trying some other "Cajun" joint the other day I needed to come here. Why? Cause if I get fair to good food/service my system needs to find similar food that is better to great. In many respects, this place helped me get satisfaction! Had a cup of gumbo - not bad, not great. Too watery, not enough andouille. As a takeout order I would have provided the rice by itself in separate container. Then the customer (me) could mix it up. Jambalaya was spot on but, like the gumbo, only a couple of andouille slices. Lots of rice - in fact too much as I could not finish it all. Tip: You can select the level of heat. Nice. The highlight was dessert. Fried bread pudding drenched in caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream, pecans and bacon! Yes, bacon. Yummy. Probably one of my top three places for bread pudding. Will come back - read more

Outstanding Cajun. I love gumbo and this was really good. If you get the bigger bowl you likely don't need a lot of extras, it's a lot! The setting is nothing special in a strip mall but the ladies were fun to chat with and getting good Cajun in Montana was not on our bingo card when we set out on our trip. read more

Let me be start off with the food presentation was very good! I recommend the fried green tomatoes. We(3) are from the gulf coast Louisiana, Florida and love Cajun food. I ordered the shrimp étouffée, my coworkers both ordered the catfish. Étouffée was delicious, but the rice was undercooked. My coworkers liked the dirty rice, fried biscuits but the fish(smaller chunk cuts rather than filets and no tartar sauce) was just ok. The service was very attentive! She kept our glasses full and checked on us repeatedly. However, she ordered the wrong étouffée(crawfish instead of shrimp) for me. Rather than apologizing and reordering my entrée, she insisted on pointing out that she thought "I" said the wrong dish. so I added that I had even showed her the picture on the menu of what I wanted. This is when she got snappy and changed her tone with me. That's where the review lost stars for me. Ambiance, small corner strip mall. read more

This is their version of jambalaya. No holy trinity, 2 pieces of shrimp, dried out andouille sausage. Was not a huge fan. All the reviews were deceiving. read more

I was headed home to Dallas, TX (from vacationing in Canada), when I saw this place during a gas stop. I spent the first 17 years of my life growing up in Lafayette, LA (AKA the heart of Cajun country), and the Louisiana boy in me had to stop here for a bite to eat. I went in with low expectations, because... Cajun food in Montana, say wuuuut? Besides, I had Cajun food just days prior in Banff, CA and was let down. But this place, Cajun Phatty's, is legit and the real deal. The gumbo and ettoufee are Cajun (and not Creole), which is the way it should be. You folk in Billings are lucky as hell to have, not only a Cajun restaurant, but a damn good one at that. I plan on going back to the area the next few years (Yellowstone, Glacier, Banff), and I hope Cajun Phatty's will be there with a cup of gumbo and plate of ettoufee waiting for me!!! read more

Breakfast review...The best ever biscuits and gravy. I honestly cannot eat this again anywhere else. It was that good.

Crab topped pasta was the special. Absolutely, without a doubt, fantastic! One of the most flavorful pasta dishes I have ever had. Generous portions and excellent service. You cannot go wrong with anything on her menu. read more

I probably won't go back but do have friends that love this place. I had the jumbalaya and it was good but very salty. The gator bites seemed mostly breading, but had good flavor. They also had a live musician that was so loud it was hard to visit. Our waitress was top notch and took very good care of us. Think I'm just not a big Cajun fan. If you are it's probably worth a go! read more

I have eaten at Cajun Phatty's a few times and tried a few things. The Shrimp Po'Boy and the Crab Cakes are delish but rich, so I would order them separately in the future (I foolishly tried splitting two dishes with a friend because we both couldn't decideToday I tried the Bayou Band Shrimp and was absolutely blown away. The shrimp was perfectly cooked and the flavors were SO delicious I am pretty sure I will be dreaming about this shrimp until the next time I can swing through Billings. The cheesy corn grits were also a great side and balanced the shrimp perfectly. read more

We stopped by to have lunch and got their ribs for an appetizer. Almost an Asian BBQ flavor. Super tender and delicious. For entrees we got the alligator basket with fries and the catfish po boy. The alligator was crispy and very delicate. Very good with their ranch and horseradish aioli. The hubby got their shrimp bo boy which came on a toasted roll with tomato and lettuce and dill sauce. Very tasty. Great servers and comfortable atmosphere. Would recommend for sure. read more

Nothing better than mom/pop places. From the starters to the dessert. We had zero complaints. The side salad was even amazing. Between my husband and I we had shrimp & crab cakes, shrimp etoufee, blackened shrimp pasta, side salads, red beans with rice, and apple crisp for dessert. Each item had a very unique flavor to it. Not one item tasted the same. Who would of thought we would find good ol Cajun food in Billings MT. This place is a must try. Great seating area outside and wonderful customer service. Arrived for dinner at 6 PM on a Saturday night, October 2, 2021 and the place is completely closed. They serve dinner but they're not open at dinner time. This makes no f'ing sense Maybe if one of the morons that works there would bother to update their website or yelp page so that people wouldn't drive and find out they're closed. So sick of people that can't run a business properly! read more

More trendy than cajun. So disappointing. Ordered the 'kitchen sink jambalaya'. Chicken, beef, shrimp, and Andouille only the meats were tossed in dry dirty rice. Not much of a flavor party going on there. High priced for the portion size. read more

My boss and I really really really wanted to love this and I was excited for some Cajun food. Our dishes were all right but I didn't get what I was looking for. I may have ordered the wrong dish, went with the jambalaya. We also had some Boudin balls. Our waitress was unfamiliar with Cajun food and recommended a non-Cajun item when we asked her what was good. I know post Covid everything is a bit tough with staffing and such and seating, as we sat outside in a cute little tent. read more
