Fruit Bowl

Went for breakfast at the location. The ambience on Sunday morning was really great - really full house testifying that it's a super popular spot in Edmonds. I would imagine the place is known for pancakes but I personally took avocado toast. It was fine - wasn't impressed. It definitely tasted super fresh and had all the right ingredients but I was expecting something more like a guacamole texture. So diced avocado and tomato weren't something I was expecting. Service is reasonably fast for the crowd we saw on Sunday morning.

Okay, I have complicated feelings towards this place. Food wise, I love it! Very homey and hearty, big portion, they are certainly not those fancy breakfast you'll see in instagrammable trendy place, but their food are the down to earth kind of tasty. I've tried veggie omelet, western omelet, and bacon and eggs. My partner loves their blueberry pancakes. All served within 15 minuties, fresh and warm, even when it's busy. They are indeed my go-to weekend breakfast place. But, 4 out of 5 times I'd say, when a visibly HWHITE staff (unfortunately I have to play the skin card because it is what it is) serves me, they never say anything back to me after I say 'thank you' to them. But oddly, every time they reply 'sure' 'yeah of course' 'you got it' etc to my parter----a HWHITE male. This really bugs me. So I'll call it I experience micro-aggression here. So, let me be brutally honest, good local place for a hearty meal, but be mentally prepare if you're an Asian female.

Spacious dining area. Was seated immediately. Plenty of parking. Had the Philly omelet special with pancakes. The omelet had roast beef in it. Pancakes were nice and fluffy. Syrup came games up. Plenty of coffee refills. Great breakfast.

Jonesing for some Pancakes and having recently seen a question posed on Reddit about what the best Pancakes in or around Seattle were, a few posts said, "Family Pancake House". so along with my buddy who lives close to here, we made our way over for some breakfast grub. This visit was on a Sunday and there was a decent enough crowd. For me and my friend it was about 10-15 wait. We were seated and tricked into the good smelling diner coffee. Not bad, but at about $3 I'd say skip since it's just run of the mill diner coffee. The also have a large selection of Mimosas which is pretty sweet, no pun intended. I got a Cranberry and my friend a Watermelon. So boozy brunch is definitely doable here and only at $6.50! For breakfast I got the Chicken Fried steak and honestly, it was pretty average. The gravy was nothing special, it had a slight garlic flavor but just lacked. The actual chicken cut was dry and also lacking in flavor. The pancakes however absolutely saved the meal. The pancakes are the perfect balance of fluffiness and size but doesn't have that denseness that I encounter and despite loving pancakes cause me to avoid. Not these pancakes though. They're excellent and I was not disappointed. So, I recommend skipping the Chicken Fried steak, keeping the pancakes. I'll choose another entree alongside them in a return visit. 3.5/5.

I've been to this place a few times over the years, including a recent visit for a special breakfast with my daughter. The large menu contains the expected classics you'd find in a diner, with the additional of great customer service from tne servers. Clean, enjoyable dining room adds ti the complete experience for a nice meal,

Service was excellent. Eggs Benedict was so so and served in funny dish. Sauce was broken. Chicken fried steak was crunchy, not oily but blan gravy. Better than Dennys but not by much. May consider going again if I am in a pinch.

Omelette (was not allowed to substitute the sides) plus an a la carte order of bacon
Carolynn T.

Was part of a group that came in for a weekday brunch recently. It was quite busy for a late Wednesday morning! The staff was friendly and patient with us as we took some time to make our selections from their extensive menu. I had ordered an omelette, which came with an option of a stack of pancakes or hashbrowns and toast for the side, and was told that there were no substitutions allowed based on "manager's discretion," so fair warning for gluten/grain free or low carb that you will have to pay for a la carte sides and still make a selection of the default sides that will sit uneaten on your plate (or pay the full price for the meal without the sides), so it was just kind of a bummer that they wouldn't allow substitutions, even with dietary restrictions. The food came out fairly quickly, and overall the taste was good - cooked well, large portions, and looked nice. Really the only downside was the food waste.

Random ambiance
Sergey V.

I don't have anything terrible to say about the place, it did feel more homely and family than a Denny's. I had the banana pancakes and they only had about four slices of a banana, I think using a half or 2/3 of a banana would have been better. My partner also had the avocado toast with tomatoes. I think the tomatoes are Roma or something because they didn't have a lot of flavor. I think it was a really good value for the meal though, so I would come back.

Hear me out.... The sugar, salt and pepper shakers are great here. They definitely clean them regularly. Idk about y'all.... But the way the pepper evenly sprinkled over the gravy really made my day!

They have lovely seating options, including a heated, enclosed, dog-friendly patio. Drinks and food come out quickly--great service! For drinks, we sipped on the French Pear martini, the blood orange martini, and the lemon lavender mocktail. All were balanced and tasted delicious! For food, I enjoyed the seafood chowder with a side a fries. The chowder was creamy, flavorful, and packed with seafood. The fries, hands down, are the best fries EVER. They're haystack fries that are crunchy, thin, and delectable. Other people in my party had the steak salad and beet salad. The steak was cooked properly to medium and the salad portion was generous. I tried a bite of the beet salad and even though I normally don't like beets, this salad was tasty! For dessert, we had the mixed berry cobbler with ice cream. It's quite literally one of the BEST desserts. It's warming, comforting, and bursting with berries; and the vanilla bean ice cream is the perfect cooling touch on a fantastic dessert. I grew up in an area with a lot of great Mexican-American cantina food which is really its own thing and Prado is exactly then with some classic American diner dishes thrown in for good measure. But the tortillas here are fresh, perfect in texture and flavor, and the ultimate canvas to slap their delicious high-quality ingredients in. The tortilla chips also taste freshly made in-house with a light airy crispiness to them that is divine. Which makes it even better when you dip them in their delicious salsa roja or scoop up some of the refried beans and meat like I learned in my decades of training. Some things are better than others, sure, but I haven't had anything bad here either. I think the carnitas were the best, but the carne asada and heuvos rancheros were great as well. They do a decent jamaica (hibiscus tea) and horchata as well! During the day they aren't very busy but seem to be swamped come dinner time. They also have a separate menu for lunch before 3pm so beware, they don't serve chips + salsa before then.

It has been one of the biggest things missing for me. Until we found Bistro 76! We came here on a Saturday around 11:30 and it was pretty slow--we were seated immediately. I ordered the classic eggs benedict and my husband ordered the corned beef hash. Both were amazing! They came out perfectly seasoned and super fresh! We really enjoyed the food. We also felt the food was very fairly priced for the quality/amount you get. I also ordered a vanilla oat milk latte which was very tasty! The women working here were so friendly and they wanted to say hi to our baby and chat a bit. Really great service overall. We got the Cuban pork hash, ham hash (from the specials menu), corned beef hash, and breakfast burrito. The potatoes were unique because they were neither crispy but they weren't mushy either and very nicely fluffy inside. Also very well seasoned! The eggs were perfectly done and oozy, the hollandaise sauce was light, more so added for extra creaminess. I'm not usually the biggest fan of hollandaise sauce as I find it sometimes too heavy but this was less rich which was nice. The breakfast burrito was tasty, nice amount of filling. I enjoyed the cubes of ham and how it wasn't overly salty. Definitely eat with hot sauce and some black pepper. I think it would get a little mundane if you were to eat the whole thing yourself but it's not bad. The banana bread donut isn't really a donut. More so a banana bread Bundt cake. It was nice, slightly sweet with what tasted like whipped browned butter.

Hot Dogs in Cars, and Managers Named "Robert" : A Hate Story…read more I have been a regular patron of The Rusty Pelican since I moved to Washington, just shy of 5 years ago. I take visiting loved ones and friends here, and I constantly extol the service and food to anyone who needs a recommendation for a breakfast spot in Edmonds. NEVER. EVER. AGAIN. The manager, Robert, showed sickening behavior. My partner and I were having breakfast out in front, when we noticed that a fellow patron had left their dog in the car on the sidewalk in front of our table. It was 60 degrees out, and completely sunny. The windows were barely cracked, and the dog was panting and straining its neck towards the venting of the window. We called our waiter over, who was incredibly sympathetic and horrified. He went inside to find the customer. We waited a few minutes longer, and then asked a second server to follow up (they were equally horrified and sympathetic). The second server also did not return. My partner went inside to seek help. It was at this point that they encountered Robert. My partner came out a few minutes later and explained what was happening: he had been in the process of denigrating the employees feelings about the matter, telling them to stop bothering customers and (essentially) quit acting like babies. "This isn't Arizona!" he exclaimed. When my partner asked to speak with him and tell him the situation, he was horrendously rude and confrontational, escalating each polite rebuttal with an agitating escalation of rudeness and denigration. My partner calmly explained that in these conditions, a car's interior temperature can rise to above 80 degrees in well under 30 minutes, not including stifling humidity. These conditions can cause an animal to pass out and die within a similar timeframe. At this point, it had been well over 30 minutes since the patron had parked. During all of this, he refused to even address my partner or look them in the eyes. It was absolutely unacceptable, and ultimately embarrassing for a grown man in a PAID CUSTOMER SERVICE ORIENTED POSITION to treat anyone like that. To be clear: the entire staff were incredible. They came out to check on the dog a few times, and tried their best to confront the owner of the dog, but a certain manager was preventing them. They also apologized profusely, and showed a grace that is exemplary and frequently unseen in today's world. We learned several good lessons today: 1. We should have just called animal control right off the bat. The owner isn't going to learn their lesson without legal intervention, or lethal endings. Thankfully they left after about 40 minutes, and the dog seemed to be conscious. 2. I am never going to eat here again, as long as Robert is employed. He should be left in a hot car out front to teach him some perspective. I wouldn't call animal control for him though. 3. I am going to spend the rest of my days around Edmonds telling anyone who will listen this story. To Robert, if you read this: I hope nothing but bad things happen to you forever, and your behavior is inexcusable. You do not deserve to be employed. To anyone above Robert in a position of management or ownership: fire him. Quickly, and unceremoniously. Do it in front of the kind employees, as a treat. They had a familiar air of exasperation with Robert's behavior, telling me this is normal. And under no circumstances should it ever be. Shame on you Robert.
