I have been seeing Dr Dan since 2017 after moving from TN. Unfortunately, the optometrist in TN diagnosed me with Glaucoma. I had iridotomy- an outpatient eye procedure that creates a small opening in the iris to improve fluid drainage and prevent or treat angle-closure glaucoma. Dr Dan keeps an eye on the pressure levels and any additional changes annually due to the misdiagnosis. Even after moving from Chandler, I continue to schedule my exams annually with Dr. Dan. I've always struggled with vision issues- I remember dreading going to my local Target / LensCrafters because the "better / worse" game never made sense to me- they all looked the same! I would leave with a pricey prescription that gave me headaches. I found Dr.Lewis by the recommendation of a great friend. To date- Dr Lewis is the only one who can prescribe a pair of lenses that actually helps me see. I wear my glasses every day and am not squinting. The only time I don't wear them is when my dog has gotten a hold of them! Family Optometry saved the day there though and just ordered me a backup pair. The front office is always helpful and the awesome staff in back are incredibly insightful in picking out frames. I have debated writing this for 2 years but as much as I want to forget about this horrible place I feel like if I could protect others from going here it would be worth my time. My 2 daughters had both been to another doctor for years but the copay was so expensive. I brought my girls in, also curious to see what the doctor would say after being under the care of an ophthalmologist for so long. Both girls had trouble with their eyes tracking together, one in glasses and one not. Dr. Bacon came to get us from the waiting room and immediately made comments to his assistant in front of me saying "do you want to take this?" implying that me with a baby in a stroller and my 2 daughters was chaotic and he didn't want to deal with us. I don't need to smooze with doctors as long as they know what they are talking about. My oldest went first. He showed me her eyes tracking together a bit better with a prescription so I thought wow! he must know what he's doing! Then my 2 year old who was wearing glasses got up for the exam and he immediately starting saying, "wow, I can't believe someone would do this to your child" "In my entire career I've never seen anything like this" "Wow look see, look at her feet. The glasses are making her walk weird". Then says "I need you to come back with your husband asap." I should have realized that was a red flag, why would I need my husband to be there for him to tell me his diagnosis but I was so stressed I wasn't thinking straight. I call my husband panicking that we need to come back that night. We go back and he says "I've thought about your daughter all day that's how disturbed I am about what is happening" He says he can't believe what this doctor has done to her and he could call 100 ophthalmologists and optometrists and they would all agree. He says she needs a different prescription (which we ordered) and vision therapy. They give us a tour of the therapy area and she explains that it will be once a week for 6-9 months. I ask her about insurance and cost. She says "we won't know how much they cover until we send the first bill, you just have to start and then send the bills after". She says before they can start we need to sign a contact saying that even if insurance doesn't pay that we will pay $6000! I tell her well we have really great insurance so I will call in the morning. We leave and I sob all the way home. The next morning I call my insurance. They say the office just needs to send a preauthorization form and we can tell you exactly how much we will cover. I say great, hang up and call the doctor office. I ask to speak to their insurance person in the office, "they aren't available" I ask for the billing codes. I call my insurance back with the codes. 1st code isn't a real code, 2nd code is "experimental" so they don't always cover that and the 3rd they don't cover at all. She says did you say this is for vision insurance?? There are 3 things we don't ever cover and one is vision insurance. I say the Dr office seemed like some of it might be covered? She calls the office to speak to them directly. She comes back saying the insurance person is at lunch but she sent them the preauthorization form. Hours later I call the office to talk to the insurance person, she again is "unavailable". I start researching and realize vision therapy is extremely controversial and not at all proven. I call a highly respected optometrist in the valley, I explain my situation and they tell me to come in right away at no charge. She does an exam with my youngest. I still think maybe she will prove Dr. Bacon right? He was SO convincing and told me a million times how unbelievable my daughter's eye situation is. The 3rd Dr says the prescription I have from the 1st Dr is virtually the same that she would give. I now fully understand that Dr. Bacon has lied and told me whatever he had to for me to sign a $6k contract. A week later I pick up the glasses I paid for and try to keep my head down. He sees me and comes over. He asks if we started vision therapy and I say no we are still thinking about it and have checked with another doctor also. Trying to be polite and quick so I can run out as fast as possible. He then tells me "oh thats good! Just go around to all the doctors until you hear what you want. That's what my dad always said about people. They just go around asking the same question till they get the answer they want." In the least dramatic way possible- Dr. Bacon is absolute scum and I have never met someone as horrible as him. I don't know how many families he has ruined or how he sleeps at night. Also 2 years later my youngest eyes track completely together and she was able to get out of glasses completely now thanks to the other doctors. read more

I've been coming to this office for about 8 years now and the people are very friendly and helpful. I see Dr. Lewis & he always has a funny joke to make the visit fun. Each of the ladies in the office are very accomodating and they all know me on a first-name basis since I've been coming in all these years! I had new lenses put in the glasses I've worn since 2007 and they made the transaction go smoothly with doing this. I will be getting new lenses in my other pair soon as well and am looking forward to this, as my prescription has a slight change to it. I recommend this office to anyone I know looking for a new eye doctor and optometrist facility! read more

Dr Bacon doesn't listen to you, he just tells you what he thinks you need. I went here and put my trust in a doctor that seemed like he knew what he was talking about, however they got my lenses completely wrong. When I tried to tell him about it he just talked over me and wouldn't listen. This does not reflect the secretaries or assistants working at the office, they were all very professional and kind. read more

I recently moved back to the area and hadn't found my new eye doctor yet. I wear contact lenses that you wear at night (CRT lenses) and need a particular device to remove them. I realized that my cleaning lady had mistakenly thrown away the plunger device to remove my contacts after putting in my contact in. In a panic, I called Family Optometry' after hours and talk to Dr. Bacon. He said I could come in and get a plunger from them and that they would take care of me once opened in the morning. I went in and immediately took care of it. I got my contact out, and I'm so grateful that they were able do that for a stranger. read more

It is a shame that there needs to be a law to force medical offices to be transparent. This office has no problem booking an appointment for a person who has insurance but doesn't verify insurance. They don't warn the patient they will have to pay out of pocket for their entire visit because they don't take that insurance. Then have the patient pay 3Xs the cost for a typical eye exam. Then take ZERO responsibility when the patient is flabbergasted they owe. Because yes every patient with vision insurance would rather pay out of pocket. Talk about predatory healthcare. It's very simple. You give the patient, before the book or at minimum before they go back what their out-of-pocket costs are EVEN A RANGE WILL DO!! Because clearly, the person booking the appointment didn't do their job. Simply actions to prevent issues like this, but your office failed. This leads me to believe you are a predatory provider. We have been going to Family Optometry for more than 30 years. They correctly diagnosed a vision problem with my son and he started Vision therapy (which has a basis in neural plasticity.) Within the first few weeks we began to see result! His ability to read and COMPREHEND his subjects in 7th grade began to soar. He was motivated because he could see the results himself! He went from a C student to an A student in most of his subjects! My youngest daughter was evaluated and Diagnosed with 2 vision problems. We all saw a huge change in her abilities to read and comprehend her classwork during her 3rd grade year. She was really struggling! She is now an Honors student in pre-nursing and got a scholarship to college!!! We ALL go to this office for eye care. read more

I really like this place. They are very accommodating and friendly! And it's close by to my place, which is a win in itself! Dr. Wright is my doctor and he was super knowledgeable and kind. He took his time examining my eyes, and then explaining to me different options for contacts/glasses. It's reasonably priced. Contacts are always quite expensive so my insurance only covered a few months worth. The rest I had to pay out of pocket - around $280. They have frames to choose from and quite a selection. Overall, it's a cute little office that I recommend. read more

I am quite a fan. I have been going for maybe 13 years with my autistic son. We have seen Dr. Carr and Dr. Bacon - both are wonderful. I also have brought my daughters. Most recently we had an emergency visit because my 7 year old daughter got a scratch on her eye and was in lots of pain. I was told to bring her right over and Dr. Bacon got her in immediately. They had no paperwork on her because it had been 6 years since she had an eye exam! (Only ever did the check at one year old.) There was no charge for the visit even though I was told on the phone that just the emergency consult would be $75! How is that for amazing care?! I highly recommend this office. read more

Excellent service, the doc was on time for our eye appointments and the staff were friendly and efficient. I even found a pair of glasses I liked for under $500. All told, our whole tab was under $500 and I got transitions, crizal, and lite weight no-line bifocals. The exam was probably the most thorough I've had in years, done by an Opthalmology resident. I had a great experience, even the lady and her multiple out of control foster kids running around screaming didn't ruin it for me. If you need glasses and you're in the east valley, I highly recommend coming here. read more

Consider this review if you are an adult and are very picky with your vision. I can absolutely not stand if there is any distortion or non-uniformity in my vision. In my work it is critical that I can see perfectly. I visited the Family Optometry office to get my prescription updated and saw Dr. Bacon. Nice person, interesting to talk to. I only looked at my prescription when I left the office and could not believe my eyes (no pun intended) when I saw a generic "+1" for both eyes. Sorry but that won't do. All my previous prescriptions were stronger and more complicated and have a strong astigmatism on at least one eye. I am giving them 2 stars (instead of none for the optical measurements) because they are nice people, treated me well and I can imagine that they will do a good job with children but I have no proof of that. I just know that I will seek other advice for my eyes next time. read more

Highly recommend Dr. Tsang, and this office!!!! I've gone here for years for yearly eye exams and for eye issues. Dr. Tsang has been fantastic and has gone above and beyond to help me find new solutions to try, for my eye problems--more so than any other eye doctor I have gone to. I also needed some accommodations at my workplace, for my eye issues. My employer requires doctors notes and paperwork for everything, and Dr. Tsang has always kindly filled it out for me, right away. read more

Friendly staff and genuine service. I felt like Dr. Bacon had a real interest in my son's well-being and I trusted his recommendation for vision therapy. We've seen a variety of eye doctors through the years...some pediatric optometrists, ophthalmologists, some general family optometry...and Dr. Bacon has shown the most interest and gave me the best sense of understanding of my son's vision and struggles. The facility itself is nothing special in terms of updated furniture and decor, but the quality of the staff is great. Not once did I feel like I was being oversold or recommended unnecessary services. Front desk is friendly and helpful, and the therapists have all been professional, courteous, and helpful. As a parent and a teacher, I highly recommend!! My son is in the midst of therapy now, and I am very pleased! read more
