On May 15, 2026, at approximately 2:30 PM, I experienced a very uncomfortable and concerning…read moreinteraction today at Costco Warehouse #672, located at 835 N. 3050 E., St. George, UT. As required, I scanned my digital membership card at the entrance. After proceeding about 25 feet into the store, an employee at the entrance called out to me, saying, "Sir, do you have your membership card? The card you scanned was a girl's." I was surprised and replied that I had, in fact, scanned my card. I walked back to the entrance and rescanned my membership. Despite this, the employee repeated that it was a woman's card. As he zoomed in on the image on his tablet, he continued to insist the card belonged to a female. I told him I found that comment offensive. Only after further examining the photo did he realize it was actually me and asked, "When did you cut your hair?" (I had longer hair during the COVID period when the photo was taken.) I again expressed that I found his comments offensive. Instead of apologizing, he dismissed my concern by repeatedly saying, "Come on," implying that | should not be offended. At no point did he acknowledge the mistake or offer an apology. Instead, the situation was minimized, as if the issue was my reaction rather than his conduct. This interaction raises several concerns: Is the purpose of scanning membership cards at the entrance to verify identity, or to make assumptions about a member's gender based on appearance? Are employees trained to recognize that men may have long hair and that appearance alone should not lead to conclusions about identity? How are employees instructed to handle situations where a member's appearance may differ from their membership photo? Does Costco consider how such comments may affect individuals whose appearance may not conform to traditional gender expectations, including those who may identify as transgender or nonbinary? Additionally, is gender identity in any way considered a condition or factor related to Costco membership? Regardless of intent, the comments made to me were inappropriate and offensive. People's appearances can vary widely, and employees should approach these situations with professionalism and respect rather than making assumptions or public remarks. I hope Costco takes this feedback seriously and ensures that employees are better trained to handle member verification in a respectful and inclusive manner.

There is a strange phenomenon in small towns across the US. Whereas Family Dollar is a sort of…read moresideshow is large metros, they seem to be a mainstay and main attractions in smaller areas. Such is the case with Family Dollar here in La Verkin. Now, this town is close enough to the massive strip malls of St. George and even the off-highway finds of say, Hurricane, but out here where you are about to leave I-15 and go to Springdale, it's nestled next to a gas station and serves as a midway step between convenience store, dollar store, and grocery store. When we couldn't find birthday candles for an impromptu b-day celebration for a friend at the Maverik, we were told to head next door to Family Dollar. Sure as shootin', they had them. And cheap. This was a one-person show, so that wasn't ideal and service can be sticky that way. But with "How Hiring" signs all over the front and inside of the store, methinks they are trying to address it. Candles acquired, b-day made, much rejoicing thanks to the more handy than usual Family Dollar in the town of La Verkin.

I go in and I had some other clothes to sell. The tie is 8.99 and the total amount they were going to give me for in store credit was 9.60! I told them all I wanted to do was exchange the tie for a different color of tie since my son had received the tie as a gift and it was brand new. Basically they were only going to give me 1.00 for the tie and then resell it for 8.99. All I wanted was a different color but I guess profit is more important than customer relationships. I usually like this place but I am not happy with how I was treated. Also some of the girl's clothes are not very cute. Thank goodness I have a couple of friends who have given me clothes that are cute because the quality has not been the greatest. I can't wait to start working again so I don't have to go here anymore.

I'm writing this review to highlight my experience at Ace in St. George, Utah and give credit where…read morecredit is due. An associate by the name of Mike F., has been an excellent resource in helping me in a couple of very important projects. Today was no exception. I'm building a new shop in my back yard and since the shop has a loft, I needed someone to help me put together a plan for a pully system a little more complicated than just a basic system. Explaining to Mike what I was wanting to accomplish, he completely understood that this wasn't just a basic shop I was building and that I wanted to add a little more "cool factor" to the hatch lid system. Probably not a big deal to many, but for some of us, it helps to display our craftsmanship a little better. Mike, who has excellent people skills, takes great pride in his personal appearance and writes with a fountain pen, is very unique and really stands out in today's world of business associates. He started building the system as we spoke and as we were gathering materials, he explained not only the how, but the whys behind every piece while putting it together. In the end, I had a much better, robust and cooler pulley system than I had originally imagined, and it's going to be an awesome addition to the shop. Thanks Mike! Today turned out to be a great one.
