There is a strange phenomenon in small towns across the US. Whereas Family Dollar is a sort of…read moresideshow is large metros, they seem to be a mainstay and main attractions in smaller areas. Such is the case with Family Dollar here in La Verkin. Now, this town is close enough to the massive strip malls of St. George and even the off-highway finds of say, Hurricane, but out here where you are about to leave I-15 and go to Springdale, it's nestled next to a gas station and serves as a midway step between convenience store, dollar store, and grocery store. When we couldn't find birthday candles for an impromptu b-day celebration for a friend at the Maverik, we were told to head next door to Family Dollar. Sure as shootin', they had them. And cheap. This was a one-person show, so that wasn't ideal and service can be sticky that way. But with "How Hiring" signs all over the front and inside of the store, methinks they are trying to address it. Candles acquired, b-day made, much rejoicing thanks to the more handy than usual Family Dollar in the town of La Verkin.

Bad experience. I…read morewas shopping here for groceries this week when an aggressive medium to large size dog ran at me and barked at me, ripped my shopping bag and then tried to bite my leg making contact with its teeth to my snow pants. As a dog lover, I spent more than 30 minutes looking for the owner who turned out to be a young woman working at the general store named Abbey. When I kindly let Abbey know that her dog had really scared me and he should probably stay closer to her, she yelled at me. Abbey was super quick to snap, start yelling at me and she made sure to tell me multiple times that her boss, the owner of the general store would have her "back", I'm not sure why anyone needed to have her back as I was being super kind and easy to talk to. She didn't need to yell either. The dog attack was one thing, but the Abbey attack was far worse. Horrible experience as a customer simply grocery shopping.
