On my first visit, my clan was swiftly greeted by what I assume is one of the owners. She asked if it was our first time to the store and explained that their stock of goods changes from week to week. She also pointed out which items' prices were even more reduced, which were furniture and garden accessories the day we stopped in. The store's really a hodge-podge of furniture, kitchenware, children's clothes and toys, bed linens, home decor, and tools. I bought my son two high-quality cotton T-shirts and a pair of shorts for only $5! While some of the items were hit or miss, I'm definitely coming back to see what the next shipment will bring in.

My parents brought me here because they have a good assortment of University of Kentucky Wildcats merchandise. I just HAD to bring some paper plates, napkins, some sturdy plastic cups and a warm, fuzzy throw - all with the UK logo. They also had a small selection of Dallas Cowboys logo merchandise so I stocked up on some of those items too. A few other sports teams' merchandise is also available - OSU, Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals. Prices were very good. This store is very large and has a bit of a "well-organized garage sale" feel to it. If I lived near one of these, I imagine this would be fun for an hour or so of roaming the aisles to see what unexpected bargains I could find.

And the values are extreme, alright...so much so that I have often found myself here looking for a cheap item or two. Accessibility: I've seen better but I have also seen worse. If the buttons on the door don't work, it can be a pain to get in or out. Do bear that in mind, and if you use a wheelchair, make sure your foot doesn't catch any displays. Aisles could stand to be a tad wider in spots. Price: Well...it's Big Lots. They have some nice deals, some of which on things I have NEVER seen at Remke-Biggs across the street (Larry the Cable Guy branded seasonings, anyone?), but also some standard brands you'll find in other stores. Nice. Experience: I've not run into any flat out unfriendly employees, but at times have had the vibe that some don't really want to be there, they just are to pay the bills. Maybe that's me catching an employee or two on a bad day. Finding things I want can be a hassle, but once I've got them, I get through fairly quickly. Overall, Big Lots gets a 3/5 from me. Maybe the next time the store gets a makeover, whenever that is, make the aisles wider and make the front doors truly automatic, and this will get a better rating.

I am a sale shopper, you will find me combing the clearance racks at stores like Kohl's and JC Penny. I'm not the current, hot, fashion type, but more classic clothes that don't go out of fashion. Closeout stores like this are also normally good for household items, sheets, towels, housewares, etc. where I see no reason to pay mrsp for something. Yes, I am THAT cheap. I had been through the Turfway Rd location once about a month earlier, which apparently has relocated here. At neither location was I impressed with the store offerings or the prices. I understand that new items come in weekly (every Tuesday morning, strangely enough), so I will probably give it another opportunity, but on this visit the stock seemed very heavily into home decoration knick-knacks (not my thing) and the other things I looked for, underwear, bed sheets, just did not seem to be that much lower than regular department store prices. For me, this will be a store that I may venture into, occasionally, when I have time to kill, but not a place I feel that I can count on like Ollie's or The Christmas Tree Shops.

But watch out, at peak times certain things like avocados fly out the door fast. You can also find somewhat rare produce like chayote and more well known like cactus, cactus fruit, and Calamondin Limes (this time of year right now). I also love it because they have tons of cuts of meat and the fresh peppers are always cheap. Stop in and surprise yourself with good meat that's fresh and affordable and some other great finds. The only thing I was a little disappointed with, you can only buy a VERY large can of hominy (any kind) no small cans here. I'm speaking restaurant size. I love making pozole but even that may be too much for me. Though technically hominy freezes well and I could recan it into smaller portions. So I may go back and nab some up. I see they also do prepare food but haven't gotten any of that myself. So not sure how to order that, but I never spend more than 15 minutes in the grocery. Anyway, you won't be let down, it's a great find! Oh and to help you find it on dream street, it's across from Chipotle's. Which I do hear that particular Chipotle's isn't very good, just an FYI.
