A routine oil change turned into a complete pan replacement at my dealership because FCC couldn't get it right. Had a routine oil change on 4/13/26 only to find several days later that my car was leaking oil (took about 10 days before the warning light came on) due to being stuck out of town I was unable to get it back to them until Friday afternoon 4/24. I was told that the oil plug was stripped (due to being over tightened during the last change) and that they wouldn't be able to take care of this until monday, they would either have to fit an oversized plug or replace the entire pan. The pan replacement was likely to cost me at least $1000. For a part that they broke during my oil change. I was also given a hard time about taking a loaner car, as it's their policy not to lend one out unless I agreed to any service that was needed. As I didn't have a choice (I had to get to work) I said yes. I won't even get into the quality of the loaner car. I called first thing in the morning on Monday after looking into possible options for repair myself over the weekend only to be told that it was done and I should come and get it. They fitted an oversized plug and it was done. Well, it wasn't done. My car was leaking oil immediately after getting it home. faster than before. And as I had already been burned twice by FCC's less than quality work I took it to the dealership, who sent me a video of the oil leaking from their "fix". And the pan had been drilled out so poorly to place the oversized plug that the dealership was unable to salvage the pan. read more

The folks at Family Car Care are friendly, proactive and knowledgeable. I recently had my car towed there after my alternator died - as part of the repair, they recommended another repair that could be done while replacing the alternator - things that would cost a lot in labor if done individually. They also noticed that my tires needed replacement. I really appreciated the time they took to explain the issues, as well as offering me a free loaner vehicle when the parts were delayed. I was in town from out of state over the holiday. My car started having cooling issues in upstate NY. The Chrysler dealers in the area all told me 2 weeks, but even with the holiday, they were able to get me in right away and the solution was simpler than expected. I went with a noisy rear brake and asked for a brake check and an oil change. The grandson must have marked me as gullible. First he told me that I needed new tires; I didn't. Then he told me, when I mentioned Costco tires, that Costco's Michelins are really a store brand, not really Michelins! Then he said that my brakes needed new front rotors and that the warping and pulsing would be corrected. I told him that the noisy brake was the rear right under a full load. I also told him that I had recently, two years ago, bought new rotors from Rock Auto and that John, of John's alignment which was on Kondelin Road. (John is no longer there, unfortunately.) I mentioned that my front brakes were not pulsing and were not warped. Too bad I have to add Family Car Care to my no go shop, along with Meineke, who gave me a similar run around years ago. I used to think that FCC were O.K. but now I know better. If they don't know you, get a second opinion! If you're a regular, as some of my Gloucester friends are, question what they tell you! read more

I had my wheels balanced here. They did them for just $10 each! But as I left I heard a thunking sound I did not notice on the way in. So I took it back. They took it right back in without any waiting. They then showed me some rust on the edge of the rotor plate that was hitting the caliper hinge. It was not a safety issue and could be left alone. But they offered to carefully hand scrape that off for me at no charge. They even explained that they did not want to take it apart to do the scraping, as that might break a rusted part and add more cost to the job and lay the car up for the weekend. I like that they were very straight forward about what needed to be done and took me out to show me the cause of the noise and exactly what needed to be done. They did not try to add any other costly issues that needed work. Great first experience here. read more

I brought my 2012 Honda CR-Z there earlier in the week for a regular oil change and tune up, and they had reset my car stereo that I had been without for many, many months without being asked, for no charge! FCC(Family Car Care) took responsibility for damage due to a recall when the dealer(IRA, Danvers) refused. (Complicated problem but FCC fixed it). They're qualified and responsible. I have had nothing but trouble. Last straw was the safety check, they found a "problem" and would not pass my vehicle. I took it to another mechanic to "fix" and they said there was nothing wrong and everything was within the specs. But I had to have them "fix" it anyway. $420 later, I have a car that runs no better and is no safer. At least I know the $420 went to an honest mechanic. read more

I used these guys for a few years, until I noticed that every time I brought the car in for something they would "put it up on the lift" and look for other things "wrong" with the car. They always managed to find something. Even things that had no problems whatsoever. These guys just like to make money by seeming like they've got your back and are "saving" you from some dangerous disaster. I do not recommend this place. read more

I disagree. Part of the safety of your car is keeping ahead of possible trouble so I would hope that they would tell me if something looks like it might need repair soon, is urgent, or I might want to keep an eye on. I've found them very efficient, economical, and pleasant to work with. read more

I love these guys...if you have ever been burned by car repair establishments, you can rest your fears with this place. They have saved me so many times. I have a big expensive truck and everytime something goes wrong, I get nervous. Take it to the dealer and they always tell me it is some big repair. They are honest, quick, and skilled.
