I came looking for the best sandwich. I asked the lady which was best the chicken or the lamb. She explained that the lamb was purchased but they make the chicken from scratch. That sold me. The chicken has lots of flavor and very tender and juicy. I liked that the pickles had some interesting flavor and weren't the standard crinkle cut jar pickles. My only complaint was that there was too much tahini which really turned the volume down on the flavor of the chicken. I got the jumbo size. It was a very Sizeable sandwich and a decent enough value. Disclaimer: I am NOT well versed in Gyros. I've had them several times over the years but have no clue what a traditional one is supposed to be. I had plans on going to the neighboring Panda Express but decided to try this spot spontaneously after pulling into the parking lot. I wanted to support a small business rather than a chain and thought I'd try something new. I was a little unsure about how their menu worked and had to ask what came in a platter (rice and I *think* something else). I'd never had falafel and am still not sure if it's some sort of fried waffle or what. I like Gyros but very rarely get them so I went with the lamb variety. Once I got it back to the car, I noticed that it was wrapped like a burrito and decided to eat it like one. I pulled back the first strip of foil and saw that it had been grilled?! Completely caught me by surprise, as I'd never had or seen an Gyro like this before. My past experiences had all been closer to a pita or sort of a wrap that struggled to stay together and ended up being a mess. I also noticed their version had huge pieces of green bell pepper. Again, not sure if this standard but I didn't remember having that before either. All in all, the Gyro was pretty good and very filling. I'm glad I didn't get the platter because after finishing this, I was stuffed. Because of the way it was wrapped and made, I kind of felt like I was eating some sort of grilled burrito/gyro fusion wrap. Not exactly what I was expecting but it kind of worked. read more

I would rate this place a 3.5/5. So for the gyro meat, it wasn't as flavorful, charred or seasoned enough. It tastes not bad but just not as great when you compare. There is plenty of meat even if you don't order the half pounder gyro. For the wrap, I thought there was too much white sauce. I liked that they can add hot sauce. I also liked that they panini pressed my gyro wrap after they wrapped it so that it is warm thru and thru. But panini pressing made the foil stuck onto it so I guess there's no best solution. read more

This place has great falafel wraps. I would say it is a take out place rather than a dine in. The quantity is decent enough for lunch. It was like a death in the family when Falafel Express closed on 99. Every time we passed the empty shop, we cried. Best falafels and shawarma in Oregon. I got a Yelp alert about a new place that was trending "hot" and took a look. YAY! All my favorites are still on the menu, along with many new items. The new shop is bigger, brighter, and welcoming. Prices are pretty much the same too. It's in a much better location but parking is shared with other businesses and eateries like Einstein's Bagels and Muchas Gracias but it's nothing like "no parking" at the old location. Samir said that lunch time is extremely busy and he's happy for all the customers who've found him again, as well as all the new customers. I had my usual falafel wrap (I love that there are no cucumbers in it), husband had his usual chicken shawarma wrap. We split an order of delicious hummus and pita bread. Going to try the kebobs next time. Just like old times! So happy to have Falafel Express back, it's like an old friend just moved back into town. read more

An unassuming shop in an unassuming strip mall, Falafel Express is a great pit stop to fuel up before shopping at nearby 99 Ranch. (Seriously, grocery shopping while hungry is dangerous and may result in serious damage to your wallet.) The wraps look skinny on first inspection but you realize they are actually pretty substantial by the time you're polishing off that last bite. I like that they press them like a panini, ensuring it's nice and hot when you get it. Both the falafel and the lamb were very flavorful and not dry, which can be a common mishap at some gyro joints. Best of all, during this time of car meals, the wraps are very contained even for a messy eater like yours truly, whereas with most gyros you can expect tzatziki running down your hand and wayward ingredients spilling out. read more

The Falafel/Gyro/Shawarma market is, quite frankly, crowded right now. There's probably a half-dozen similar places within a couple of miles is this place. But that was true at Falafel Express's previous location too. At his old location, Samir and crew were a huge success (and the first restaurant to actually be successful in that terrible location); he closed reluctantly because of an intransigent landlord. Falafel Express distinguishes itself and attracts a loyal following because its food is just head-and-shoulders above the typical Gyro/Shawarma fare. Samir and his crew carefully prepare the food using his own recipes. The new location has its challenges too. Parking is tight. Visibility is poor. There was a "Soft Opening" sign taped to the door of Falafel Express so I figured it must be a new place. However, as soon as I stepped inside, I recognized the man behind the counter as the owner of a really good Middle Eastern place that used to be on Pacific Hwy in Tigard. At that point, I already knew his brand new place would be really good too. I ordered a Chicken Shawarma Wrap, and it was as tasty as I expected. The meat was from a traditional vertical spit and was seasoned just right to be mildly spicy and savory. My wrap was good sized and was loaded with meat. First time here. The employees were very friendly. I ordered the beef/lamb gyro for $6.99 and grit it with spicy sauce which they ask if you want it added. First it was an unique gyro. Wrapped like a burrito and pressed like a panini. Wasn't expecting that but it was pretty good. Like the sauce and tomato, pickle, lettuce combo was nice. Randomly stopped by here while on errand in Beaverton (was going to get a bagel next door). Something in my head told me to support a non-chain small biz, and something in my tummy said "schwarma!" It was clean, only 1 person in front of me (it was a bit after lunchtime), and the person behind counter said schwarma would be about 15 min to cook (fresh). I had to be somewhere so got the gyro and a soda instead. Yum! I loved that it was in a thinner bread and not sloppy with the tzaziki sauce and I could enjoy the tasty meat. Ate it in my car and it was not messy like gyro usually is. Came home and told my husband about it and he was mad I didn't bring him home some!
