On Sunday, September 6th, the hottest day of the year, my A/C died. It was 108 degrees in San Ramon! I was not sure if I would be able to get immediate service since it was a holiday weekend. I reached out to several companies. Rick Heffern, Owner, called the next day (Labor Day) at 7:00 A.M. He promised to arrive at my home between 1-5 P.M. He was there at exactly 1:00 P.M. The problem turned out to be the capacitor. He replaced the part and checked the coolant. I had cool air within 30 minutes. His price for the part and labor was extremely reasonable. I could have weathered the heat for a few days, but I have pets and was not about to put them at risk. I HIGHLY recommend Fairway! Fairway Plumbing Heating and Cooling installed 2 new wall heaters at our house in Hayward back in the fall of 2019. All was great, great service and a reasonable price. Two weeks ago our tenant called saying one of the units wasn't working, that the pilot light went out and he couldn't get it to go back on. Thinking maybe there was an issue with the unit I called Fairway Plumbing. Rick went out that day. He relit the pilot, and showed our tenant how to relight it. Rick stated it could be just that with heavy winds we had at that time, or something else, we'll see. That ended up being the only problem. They did a good job with installation and the price was fair. I have to take issue with the promise he made to support his product. I had a problem a few weeks after installation, and his response was call an electrician. I'm OK with that, however not after the over the top promise of him being a walking warranty. Rick responded right away to my request to get an estimate for a new air conditioner to replace my 20 year old unit (which he installed in 2002). His estimate seemed fair as compared to another estimate I received. He answered all of my questions. Rick was able to get the brand of air conditioner that I decided I wanted and he was able to get a model that had a higher SEER rating and was rated Energy Star for the same price as a base model that wasn't available. His crew arrived promptly to start the installation and did a wonderful job even when faced with some challenges. They also replaced a damaged floor vent and gas valve. They cleaned up perfectly. You know how you can just tell someone's just a good guy straight off the bat? I called Fairway around the same time I called a bunch of other places for plumbing quotes. Vince got back to me very quickly but not before I had booked another plumber, which I let him know at the beginning of our conversation. We chatted, he asked me a few questions and let me know what his likely course of action would have been. He then gave me a heads up on what to look out for...you probably need X but not Y, unless there's Z problem, that kind of thing. Vince also let me know that the guys I have lined up do good work, that he's known them for a long time and they have his stamp of approval. Kind, generous with his time, and knowledgeable, a real community kind of guy. He hasn't done any work for me, but I felt compelled to leave a note here because he left a real impression. read more

Highly Recommended for HVAC services. Rick is very educated and informative on HVAC systems. He never tries to up-sell you anything, he is very honest about the work needing to be done. I have used them for HVAC services, at my personal home and at one of my rental buildings. HVAC services are quick, prompt and very reasonably priced! Rick is always readily available and on time. He always gives us a 2 hour window for work and arrives either a few minutes early or within the first 15-30 minutes of your scheduled work. I am giving them one less star, as I found their plumbing quote to be quite high for one of my rehab-flip projects for a tank-less water heater. I will try them again for plumbing in the future and hopefully it will be more competitively priced. read more

This review is for Rick's gas furnace repair service. Don't know about their plumbing services or prices. Overall, Rick is very dedicated, professional and with great sense of responsibility in replacing the inducer motor assembly of the furnace in Union City. To get the job done, he had to make two extra trips to get/buy parts (as far as Concord) for our furnace model. He did some extra cleaning parts/filter replacement (at moderate extra $) to keep the furnace in good working condition. I recommend Rick to anyone with Heating & Air Conditioning/HVAC problems in hayward/union city/fremont area. And will use his service in the future for sure. read more

Rick and his crew do great work! He was at my place for 1.5 hours last Saturday to diagnose a problem with my heater. He took it apart, could not find the source of the problem, put it back together and didn't charge me anything. This was the second time I had him here. Vince just left. We like Vince. This wasn't the first time he's been to our house, but it is the first time we had to pay him. About 18 months ago we noticed that our upstairs shower was leaking and showing it in the ceiling below. Vince came out and gave us a cheap DIY solution to try before ripping out sheet-rock to replace stuff. That was not forgotten when our kitchen sink's drain pipe decided to fall apart last night. I called around 7:30 this morning, and got an answering service, I think. So I was a little worried when I hadn't gotten called back by 10 or 11. But right around noon, I got a call from Vince. He was able to come between 2 and 4. Showed up right around 3, completely replaced all of our under sink plumbing by 4. Fantastic. I'm sure they aren't the cheapest, but they definitely aren't the most expensive, and the work looks top notch to me (better than what we had). 18 months ago we had other plumbers come out and estimate $600 and $1,100, but Fairway gave us an option that we could try for about $10 first.
