This shop is very nice but the owner is not very good with kids and that's a little weird because she's running a children's candy store!

The owner told us our 6 month baby needed a mask! I don't even think that's legal. Cool store, extremely rude owner.

How sad to see this Marin County Jewel close. I can't understand why, with numerous Brick & Mortar…read morevacancies the landlord would raise the rent astronomically and lose this Marin County Institution! Susan was great and a Bay Area treasure. I entered her early teddy bear contests back in the late 70s and wish her well in retirement! As I read through reviews here 98% are 5 star positive but I see a few that made me realize what Susan also put up with over the years. Completely clueless basic mall zombies that called the store dusty or cluttered when it was a beautiful artful well themed museum of antique toys and bear travel (the theme of her books). With everything for sale, how much fun! One off base reviewer even thought she didn't get proper service because she was black, how precious, off base and hackneyed is that complaint. Especially if you know one of Susan's most popular books and matching teddy bears (she designed with the Steiff Company) were all about traveling in Africa! Those that got it will really miss this unique toy store that was in a class by itself. Thank you Susan for 40 years of preserving the lost craftsmanship of our past!

Where else will you see part of an old wooden ship loaded with stuffed animals, a Noah's Ark with a turkey in charge? Or an Egyptian sarcophagus from a set design for Indiana Jones next to a sizeable camel stuffie. Or an antique Underwood typewriter in its case or a set of illustrated journals of a bear who has traveled to Paris, to Egypt, to the Chelsea Flower Show in London, to Africa! A must visit for everyone! A you must go soon as Mme. Susan has seen her rent quadrupled and survival is challenged. Please support her!

Toy Crazy - A staple in Marin. I always end up in this store whenever I visit Marin Country Mart. Great place to pick up gifts.

This store might be a drama magnet, but it also has a really great array of magnetic toys -- so I…read moredeclare 5 stars. Toy Crazy was the second toy store I walked into today on my quest to find a magnetic toy for the "well under 3" crowd called Stick-O. Mr. Baby was gifted a small set and LOVES THEM, but I've never seen Stick-O in stores... and woe is me (woe is he!), I forgot his set at home when we traveled to Marin. Toy Crazy doesn't actually have Stick-O, but they do have an *extremely* similar toy called "Smartmax" -- big, three-dimensional pieces with magnets that flip around inside, so that 15-month-old Mr. Baby doesn't get frustrated because he doesn't (yet) understand magnetic polarity. They also have a whole bunch of Magnatiles and Magformers, and possibly some other magnet toys. Small store, lots of magnets. A+. Having read all the previous reviews, I was bracing to encounter an unpleasant, possibly child-hating older woman with short curly hair, but all we found behind the counter were two younger teenagers -- and a security guard, because apparently someone's dissatisfaction with the "exchange or store credit only, no cash refunds" policy had gotten WAY out of hand. There was a snarky grandmother standing way too close -- blocking the exit from the behind-counter area, harassing the teenagers, and refusing to let it go; there was an anxious mother coming unglued in all directions -- "Stop engaging!" to her mother, loudly imploring her preschool-age daughter to pick something, "So that we never have to come back here!" (as if the store were the scene of a gruesome accident), and patronizingly lecturing the teenagers to "Consider who you work for!" Perhaps the piece de resistance was another older woman who didn't seem to be related to any of these people, but had taken up the cause of the tri-generational Your Policies Don't Apply To Me posse and, having escalated to the point of being asked to leave by the security guard, stood outside shouting at passers-by about the epic injustice occurring within the toy store. "This is not what we do in Marin!!" she declared, and with great indignation. Look, I'll be honest: I was thinking about a four-star review. The downside to an impressive inventory in a small space is that, toy store or not, this didn't really feel like a place where I should take Mr. Baby off my back and turn him loose to go be a kid. That said, I can't emphasize enough how much I *just. can. not.* with the level of privilege & entitlement on display from the other adults in the store when I walked in. Yes, okay, they wanted a cash refund for whatever they'd returned. But I'll tell you: I bought those pseudo- Stick-O sets, & the return policy is right there at the bottom of the receipt. Like I tell Mr. Baby, "All feelings are okay; not all actions are okay." I get that these folks were disappointed, AND there's no call for taking out their disappointment on a pair of kids who are just working their summer jobs -- or so dramatically broadcasting distress about trying to use exactly $14 in remaining credit (without spending a cent more). So, hey: Baby magnet toys *and* not breaking down screaming at "This is not what we do in Marin" customers? Yeah, that's 5-stars-able.

I just love this store. I have taken my three boys in here every single time they get a haircut,…read moresince before they could talk. It certainly is hard to leave without a toy! I love the friendly staff, as they always know what to help with, and give us clean service.
