I usually work on my bike myself, but this year I didn't want to spend too much time on it, especially replacing the stock front fork with an Ohlins on my Yamaha XSR700. I also wanted a second set of eyes to check all my work and inspect everything once in a while, so I dropped my bike off at Fairfax Cycles. The main service I requested was to replace the front fork and exchange the fork and brake oils. I bought the Ohlins fork from Partszilla and dropped it off at the shop. I was missing some other small parts needed, and they were able to order it for me. I had a budget I wanted to stick to, and they were able to work with me to meet my budget and the services I needed. They were very flexible. For the amount of work done on my bike, I'd say the price was fair. The place is very busy all year round, though. Please set your expectations. You'll likely have to wait to get serviced. You'll also need to pick up ASAP. I felt good about all the services performed on the bike. The installed Ohlins fork makes the bike so much better. Will I come back, a definite yes. read more

This place is far into the shopping area, I had a little trouble navigating which area to go into but there are small signs to point the way once you see the bikes at the end you know youre in the right spot! I was a bit intimidated to walk in as I dont look like a stereotypical motorcyclist but the gentlemen was super friendly and fast with helping me. I brought in a broken clutch lever that I didnt have the right tools to fix it myself. He was super quick to fix it for me and didnt even charge me for the quick fix! Look just do a simple brake system flush and bleed to make sure bike stops with both the hand and foot brake. One hour service, no stars, no bullshit. If you find "hot spots on the rotors" AFTER you disassemble the bike NOT BEFORE, then you have extra work to do and bill for. You never touched the bike and could not have known what the actual problem was. So I tried to help you out with as much info as possible beforehand and got screwed with the upsell instead of getting the simple work accomplished. If you acclaim how good you are at service, then do not f me over, a new customer, who needs your shop to do the basic work. read more

I was super disappointed because I thought i wouldn't be able to get on the road on Monday. I stopped by Fairfax Cycle on Sunday evening and the guys said that if i dropped off my bike they would take care of me Monday morning. These guys have been my shop of choice over the years. They once brought a KTM Duke 2 back to life for me! Much respect.

I was having trouble finding a shop to work on my KTM, so I was thrilled to find Fairfax Cycles. They had bikes lined up outside of their shop and admitted that they were pretty slammed with riding season getting underway. I received a call a couple of days after I dropped my bike off to let me know they had completed the service I wanted, and to let me know that I needed new tires. Having never bought tires before, Terry gave me a little tutorial on what I should be looking for and some options at various price points. I then went online and found some on Revzilla that happened to be on a promotion. They happily matched the deal and ordered the same ones through their distributer and installed them. Terry is a knowlagable and cool guy, and I found the prices at Crossroads to be reasonable. Returning for me is a no brainer next time I need something. read more

I brought my motorcycle in to have the carburetor and clutch adjusted, and the neonazi-looking receptionist came out, looked over my motorcycle and told me that it wasn't worth his trouble or time to work on my bike because he had too many other bikes to work on. I took my bike a 2006 Yamaha R1, over to them, had an issue with the bike cutting off when the fans came on, I had taken my Bike over to Coleman Powersport A year before they worked on the bike fixed my issue no problem, expensive but hey they took the time to look at it diagnosed the problem and fix it. So when this issue popped up, I didn't want to spend as much money, by going to the dealer, so I had it towed to Fairfax Cycles, they kept the bike for a week and then called me and said my boss decided they didn't want to work on the bike, ... too much going on with it, so I had the bike towed back to me, decided to fix it myself and the only thing it was , I had an exposed wire on one of the fans and it was shorting itself out and shutting the bike down, replaced the wire, the bike rides perfect now, and they had the nerve to say my first mistake was taking it to Coleman's at least Coleman's worked on the bike read more

I've been riding for close to ten years now, and I've ALWAYS had trouble finding a good shop for my babies. Especially as a female rider, I've never been anywhere that wasn't condescending as all hell or super shady about working on my bikes. Fairfax Cycles is so incredibly refreshing for me because they're so straightforward and trustworthy. I met almost the entire staff my very first time in and everyone is SO helpful and friendly (and nobody talks to me like I'm a child)! They're always really upfront about how urgent certain work is and what can wait. I've never had anyone push anything, and they're always suggesting alternatives to try to save me money. I've been to shops that wouldn't even allow me to go back and LOOK at my bike while it was being worked on. Fairfax Cycles always brings me in the back to show me how they diagnose an issue, what they recommend, and WHY they do everything that they do. I can't tell you how many times I've brought a bike in for a service and picked up to find a 'by-the-way, we noticed this was off, so we took care of it.' Local riders know what's up, so the shop tends to stay pretty busy. But they always do their best to squeeze my service in as soon as possible, and they've always finished my work days earlier than I expected. I've seen staff stay after hours multiple times to try to accommodate the schedule for a customer's pick-up/drop-off. They're constantly going above and beyond what's called for. One time my bike's battery died down the street. The shop sent someone on a Ruckus for me to ride back while the poor schmuck pushed my bike all the way to the shop, and they didn't even charge me for the jump! You can just tell that these guys genuinely care about their customers and their work. They want to share our wheelie passion and just want to see us out on the road safely. I cannot recommend them enough, Fairfax Cycles has ruined me for other shops. Special shout out to Terry, Kevin, Trae, Eric, and a bunch of other guys (because I suck at names). Honest, fast, and fair. I came by on the first really nice, clear, warm Saturday of spring to try to get some basic things done before the riding season was in full swing. Needless to say lots of other bike owners had the same idea and the shop was really busy. They were able to get me in and out in the same day even though I came in kind of late (1pm with the shop closing around 4) and with several jobs ahead of me. They put on new tires that I brought in myself without complaint, changed my oil, and checked out my brakes since I hadn't had them looked at by a professional since I bought the bike. The rates were fair and like I said, they got me in and out even though they were really busy. Highly recommend this place and I'll definitely be back for any future work. The only downside is that the shop is a little hard to find and is tucked away in the back corner of a big lot full of auto repair shops that share the address. read more

I just moved to the area. I decided to be proactive and get my motorcycle looked at after the move. The motorcycle was running well, I had just driven it back and forth to Charlottesville. But, where I live now compared to where I was is much different, so I wanted to bring it in and have professionals take a look. A friend recommended three shops in the area. They were all booked out three to four weeks. I found Fairfax Cycles and they had an opening within days. I dropped my motorcycle off. Two days later I got a call saying that to fix the motorcycle, I would need to have the carburetors removed, re jetted, and to some degree rebuilt. The price they quoted me (~$500), which was mostly labor, was right in line for the job. I asked on the phone if there was anything that could be done that was less drastic and they said no. The price, although in-line for the job, was more than I could afford so I said I needed to come pick up the bike without them doing the work they recommended. That's when they told me that they had put an hour of work into diagnosing the problem and so the fee would be $90 when I picked up the motorcycle. When I came to pick up the motorcycle, I asked if there was anything else done, like a minor tune or a sync of the carburetors. I expressed that I didn't want to walk away having spent $90 with them and not feeling like they did anything for me. I asked if I came back later for the repair, if the $90 might be applied. The gentleman behind the counter was very respectful and told me they did as much adjusting that they could, that the carburetors were already pretty much in sync and that the only way to really see improvement was to do the recommended work. He also gently told me that they would not be able to apply the $90 toward a repair in the future. I paid. The gentleman behind the counter left to pull my motorcycle to the front of the building. A quiet man sitting slouched in the lobby got up from his chair and told me that he had to pay his mechanic and pay for the lights and the building and that he wasn't going to "eat" the time he spent on my motorcycle. I paused and said, "I understand." He then raised his voice and said, "Well if you understood, you wouldn't have said what you just said." He then proceeded to get up, raise his voice and rant at me. I was mortified. He just kept going and going. It was absolutely uncomfortable. I just paid him $90. I couldn't believe this business owner thought it was appropriate to rant at his customer just because I questioned the value I was receiving for the money I paid. Luckily the gentleman behind the counter came back in. I simply said, "I apologize" to the ranting man and left. I brought the motorcycle to one of the other shops that was recommended to me, that evening. The mechanic there took the motorcycle, rode it, brought it into the garage, put it up on a lift, hooked up some devices, listened, tweaked... stayed about 90 minutes after they closed with me explaining all about the motorcycle and the different things that could be done right now versus waiting. He didn't charge me anything. What a contrast! I don't doubt that the work they do at Fairfax Cycle is top notch. In fact I'm sure it is. And, I don't doubt that they are priced well. But, if you are looking for someone who understands that customers are the reason their business exists... if you are looking for someone who treats you with respect as a patron of their establishment... if you are looking for somewhere that you'll walk away feeling good that you did business with them, this is not the place. I do NOT recommend Fairfax Motorcycle for these reasons. I now understand why the other shops that were recommended to me have a three to four week wait, and Fairfax Motorcycle had an opening within days. Be careful if you decide to bring your motorcycle to Fairfax Cycle. read more

Definitely won't be going back. I took my bike in after a minor accident. It took them 6 weeks to do the repairs. Annoying, a long time, but I was willing to let it go. They said the part they needed was on back order and that happens and isn't their fault. So I also asked them to do a standard 4k mile check up. Now, things start to go bad when finally, after 5 weeks of having my bike, they call me and tell me the key suddenly doesn't work. When I ask why (because it was fine when I brought in my bike, and the minor accident was no where near that), their explanation was "sometimes things happen." And when I started to probe further on this, they got defensive and rude on the phone about it! So I was going to have to pay another $100-$160 to get this fixed. This started to feel like the shady things you hear from mechanics sometimes, but I had no choice so I told them to go ahead (meanwhile I was going to check in with the locksmith they were bringing in to see what really happened, but still willing to give them the benefit of the doubt). Fast-forward to when I picked the bike up. I asked for the name of the locksmith, saw the invoice, and when I asked to see it again so I could write down their information and follow-up with them, the owner got confrontational, refused to let me see the invoice, refused to explain what happened (just saying this was not on us, which is not an explanation), and told me to never come back. I had had positive interactions with these guys before this and had good check in calls and everything. But this last experience was absolutely unacceptable customer service. And why? All because I dared to question what happened to my bike that they worked on? Don't worry, sir, I won't be coming back. read more

I first took my bike to Fairfax Cycles April of 2014 after a friend laid my GSX R600 down. I dealt with Terry throughout the repair process. One of many things I like about this shop is the communication they have in updating and informing the customer about what is going on. Everyone in the shop is professional, courteous, and friendly. The work that is done from Fairfax Cycles is top notch and they go out of their way to keep costs down. On a few of the repairs that needed to be done, they had a spare part in their shop and used that instead of ordering and charging me more money. Unfortunately, in August I had to bring my bike back in after my bike was backed into while parked. I communicated that I had a ride out of town coming up in a couple of weeks and they worked fast to get what mechanically needed to be fixed so I could take my bike on the ride. I brought my bike back after the ride to get the remaining cosmetic repairs fixed. Later, one of the parts that was replaced in April had gone bad and instead of just charging me for a new part, they knew it shouldn't have gone bad in such a short/low mileage span of time and sent it back to the manufacturer to force them to warranty it. Most shops wouldn't care or even attempt to do that for their customers. All in all, I have been to other bike shops in the area, I have been treated like just another dollar sign or just another person keeping them from taking a break/smoke a cigarette/go to lunch. At Fairfax Cycles, this is never the case. They have stayed later than closing to get me in to drop off my bike and they genuinely care for the customer and about the work they do. I still have yet to find an auto shop I fully trust with my car but fortunately, I have a bike shop that I fully trust with my bike. As long as I am in the Northern Virginia area, I will only take my bike to the guys at Fairfax Cycles. read more

Great people. Great prices. Quality work. I came in about 2.5 hours prior to close hoping they'd be able to at least take care of the front end alignment while I waited and he made sure not to give me false assurances telling me he didn't think he'd be able. It started to rain pretty bad so I decided to wait it out. During that time there mechanic decided to reach a good stopping point on his other project and to get that done for me. At the end of the day I come to find out they did all of the 7000 mile scheduled maintenance for me. What a surprise. :D While I waited had some great conversation and laughed quite a bit. The time sure flied. As far a price. The other shop was going to charge $400 labor + parts on the 7000 mile scheduled maintenance and wouldn't give me a stead fast quote on the other items in question. For everything fairfax charged me total of $295 and fixed a few things at no charge. Shoot they fixed my clutch adjuster nuts before we even finished going over all I needed done and long before we started taking money. You can make appointments without having to leave a nonrefundable deposit. They worked with me. Helped me come up with ideas. For example my rearsets driver/passenger are one piece assembly and if I were to swap rearsets I'd be w/o passenger sets. I've been researching, brainstorming, and asking multiple forums for weeks. I went in there and they suggested welding a bracket for a separate assembly to the bikes frame after only a few minutes talking about the problem. Tell them Jerimiah sent you. ;) read more

I just got my first bike after 20 years of hiatus: 2004 Suzuki Volusia 800. A beautiful machine. Runs great, sounds even better. One problem, however. The signal lights were not working properly. The previous owner took out all the light bulbs because the lights were apparently not working properly. I took the bike to Fairfax Cycles. Met with Kevin and Terry, owners perhaps. Terry looked liked a bad ass with his long beard tied in a small knot. Terry had no hair on top, but a whole bunch on his chin. But, once we started talking, I realized this man Terry was a gentle soul. At any rate, Terry had his mechanic look at my bike. On the phone, he told me that he couldn't find any problem except for the hazard switch being on. Other than putting the bulbs back in and checking the wirings, there wasn't much he had to do, he said. Sure enough, the lights worked just fine after that. The whole thing cost me $45.00. He could have charged me more, I would have paid. He could've told me that some parts had to be replaced, I would have obliged. I didn't know any better and I would have gone along with just about whatever he told me the problem was. In the end, I found Terry and Fairfax Cycles to be an honest merchant. btw, the shop is not easy to locate. It does not have any big signage. There is a Harley Davidson shop right next to it. read more

Spoke to Terry about getting my RaceTech fork springs installed on my sportbike (replacing the stock springs) and making the necessary suspension adjustments. Explained that I'd have to wait while they worked as I had no way to drop it off to pick it up another day. Weather has been hit-or-miss but Terry was accommodating and I was able to take my bike in today. Met Kevin, the shop owner, who chatted with me re: how I ride and my settings preferences. After the forks were done they had me sit on the bike and completed a few settings adjustments as a baseline. Told me to ride it for awhile (on track and backroads) and swing by if it needs further adjustments. The suspension felt great on my ride home...so far so good. I pass by a few other shops on my way to FFax Cycles and will recommend this shop to the groups I ride with. I had heard good things about Kevin and his team which were validated by my experience today. read more

I dropped off my Vulcan 1500 for few issues such as a clutch replacement, a front rotor and pads replacement and few others things. Terry and Kevin were very professional the whole time that I left my motorcycle at the shop. As soon as I picked up my motorcycle and I noticed the rotor has been warped. I took the motorcycle back the next day and it's being repaired right now. Terry gave me a ride back home since I had to leave the motorcycle at the shop. What a great customer service he has shown. I really appreciated his effort to keep the customer happy. I would definitely and strongly recommend Fairfax Cycles to anyone who has to get their motorcycles or ATV serviced. I pulled the wheels from my FZ1 and took them to Fairfax Cycles to change the tires. I walked in and was ready to leave them for a week to get them changed. They said give 'em an hour or two and they'd call me when the work was done. Sure enough, within an hour and a half they called and I picked up my wheels the same day. My bike wouldn't stay on after I turn it on so I took my bike at Fairfax cycles for a check up after they were highly recommended to me by my neighbor. On my initial call I asked the guy that answered the phone how far out were they before they even got a chance to look at my bike? I was told they were a week out which I assumed it was more like at least 2 weeks out before they even got a chance to take a look at it. I take the bike in the next day. As I'm dropping the bike and talking to them about what's happening with the bike, the employee that took my paperwork goes nuts on me and starts screaming because I had cut the original battery cable and had it extended as I was trying to install a different battery. Right there and then I knew that seemed unprofessional and odd but I figured oh well they might be worth it so I made no big deal on it at the time. 3 weeks go by and I decide to call and find out what's happening. I got nothing. The guy pretty much told me they hadn't looked at it yet and they don't know when they will do so. They were too busy working on some atv's. After all that I called at least couple more times and we're now 2 months in and my bike is sitting in their lot. Even my neighbor asked me about the bike when I saw him and told him what had happened. He said he'll call them. After my conversation with my neighbor I received a 2 page quoted email from Fairfax cycles with work that my bike supposedly required, over 2K on repairs to start with. It was almost like they were trying to rebuild my bike. Worth mentioning I had spent already almost 2K one year ago at a different mechanic, and that's why I got so surprised on the Fairfax cycles quote. Also it was mentioned on that quoted email that more stuff hence more money spent might come up as they move along with the work. Basically I was told when I should say enough is enough on continuing spending money on this bike. Based on this quote and the money they asked for it it didn't seem right to keep on spending more money on the bike and I'm being forced to sell it as a project bike or for parts. I put it up for sale for $750 and I end up selling my bike for $500 to a guy that has some kind of mechanical knowledge and has been riding for a while and knows about bikes. I help him load the bike in his truck and he gets back at me the next day to let me know that all he had to do was replace the engine oil. A $26 oil cost. The engine oil in the bike was mixed with gasoline somehow and the bike wouldn't stay on which was the reason why I took my bike in to start with. Long, long story short I brought my bike here so I can make a good honest and long lasting relationship with a supposedly good mechanic as I was told by my neighbor and I ended up selling my bike for nothing pretty much because my bike REQUIRED AND NEEDED all that work that Fairfax cycles quoted me for. Only for an amateur biker to get it up and running for $26. I spent $200 on towing expenses to take my bike in and $100 on Fairfax cycles for their service call fee. They even charged me, for what????. I've never felt more juked and let down in my entire life like these folks did me. Worst customer service. I'm giving them a star because it's not possible to give them a ZERO. read more

I swear I don't know where to start this review but all I can say is that this is an incredible shop with guys that not only have their hearts in the work but are TRUE biker brothers. I was taking my Busa this hot a.m. to a local Suzuki dealership to address a recall issue on the bike. I made a wrong turn off the highway and was traveling in the opposite direction. I pulled over to check my map app on my phone but when I went to restart the bike it just wouldn't turn over. While sitting on the bike trying to figure things out another biker, Eric, pulled over to assist me. I told him what was going on and he said he was heading to his shop down the street a little and up a hill to the right. I didn't know what kind of shop he was referring to but he told me to push the bike to the corner and then up the hill and he would be back to help me after he dropped off his bike. As I was pushing this beast of a bike up the hill, Eric came running down the hill to help me push the bike uphill and while we were pushing he told me he worked at a motorcycle repair shop up in an industrial park a few meters on the left by the name of Fairfax Cycles. Once we got the bike to the service bay, Eric took me inside the customer area and brought me a really cold bottle of water since it was mad hot outside. While I was sitting there the guys in the bay checked out my bike and Terry over in customer service had already looked up the bike on his computer system and confirmed the recall and took the time to explain to me exactly what the issue was on the bike as it pertained to the recall. The guys jumped my bike since it just didn't have the amps to turn over the engine and I was able to make it to the dealership to have the recall issue addressed but it would NOT have been possible if it weren't for these guys who I will ALWAYS consider "Biker Brothers" who squared me away as we would say in the Army. Eric did NOT have to stop to help me earlier but he did and I will forever be grateful to this dude who had a heart of gold as far as I'm concerned and this is a testament to the guys that work at the Fairfax Cycle. They didn't charge me ONE PENNY for the assistance but I would have been willing to pay them whatever they would have charged me because the service and willingness to help a fellow biker out was priceless! I will be taking my bikes to this shop in the future for all my biking needs (at least the ones which I'm too lazy to service myself.....I do know my way around a wrench or two). I went to Fairfax Cycles after Coleman Powersports in Woodbridge quoted me $200 to do a tire change if I brought my own tires in or $115 if I purchased the tires from them. Fairfax charged me only $100 to bring in and change tires that I purchased from the internet. I'm a complete motorcycle novice and was looking for a place that not only has good service, but can put up with me asking lots of very basic questions for every little thing so I can continue learning. I have a 2015 Kawasaki Vulcan s and have been here multiple times for batteries, other small parts, and for winter storage. Pricing is very fair (significantly better than where I bought my bike) and their work is top notch. Consistently had a good experience and will bring my bike here for the foreseeable future.
