These guys were great - true bike enthusiasts and fair in terms of pricing. I highly recommend them. There's a pretty casual vibe there so I recommend calling in advance so they expect you. Took in my Rebel 250 for an assessment. I'd been doing my own maintenance but hadn't had a professional look at it since I got it 3 summers ago. Jeremy was able to do a walk around and quick ride and tell me in less than 10 mins and what needed to be fixed urgently and what could wait. My rear tire was balding so we scheduled a tire replacement . I thought the pricing was fair, new tire + labor + tire disposal was around $200. Heads up- their schedule can be quite full so go in maybe a few weeks before you actually need the work done. Rush was the mechanic that actually worked on my bike and he had the job completed in exactly an hour (as predicted) while I waited. He even fixed a squeaking issue I had been having with my front brake rotors/calipers free of charge. I'll be back for future maintenance! read more

If you are a serious rider, this is not the shop to take your bike to because they are not serious about their repairs. It took them basically a month to even get me the quote for the repair, despite me scheduling an appointment three weeks in advance and asking for updates on the repair each week. Two weeks in, even after being assured that they would be getting back to me by the end of the day with the quote, that somehow turned into another two weeks because of Jeremy's ineptitude. The worst part about this was being threatened with storage fees even after I had informed Jeremy that the repairs were taking far too long I would be out of town and unable to pick up my bike until after the winter holidays. The total repair was also over $200 more than the estimate. Terrible experience. They also put some gross lube on my chain when I told them not to touch it. read more

It's just occurred to me that I've never done a review for these guys, even though I've been going to them for years. Bought my first motorcycle from here in 2015 or so, and they were very patient and helpful in getting me started. I've been through a few other bikes since then and I've always brought them here to be worked on, for both large and small things. I can't speak highly enough about Jeremy and Rush and the shop as a whole. They have always done good work at a reasonable price, they explain things in detail, and never try to up-sell. 4 years ago, Jeremy and his folks did some needed work on my bike, and did a great job. This year (2021), I had neglected the bike and it needed a lot of re-juvenation. Done. Plus, prepped the bike for the fairly rigourous MD inspection specs. Jeremy was always super clear about what needed done, and why. I haven't asked CoSS to add any farkle, but if I wanted it I would definitely go back (again). I have now-15-yr old SV650, they made it almost like new. I have been a happy customer of Cycles of Silver Spring from even before the owners Jeremy (front desk) and Rush (mechanic bay) used to work for the Cycles USA shop around 14000 GA ave in S/S that closed 5-6 years ago. I followed them, because of great service, depth of knowledge, and fantastic attitude. This is my local shop, and I use them for ALL my work. On Saturdays at 10am, they typically have a first come first served, no appointments necessary policy, for quick jobs like oil changes etc, I am a last minute guy so that helps big time. They have worked on all my bikes, including a 2006 sv, 2006 katana, 2007 fz1, 2006 vstrom, and a 2008 bking. work done: - oil changes, tires, chain replacement, etc on all my bikes - aftermarket engine guard, belly plate, center-stand, braided lines on my 2006 Africa-Tour Vstrom 1000 - aftermarket yoshi cans, headlights, frame sliders, engine guard, tire changes (multiple), service, etc on my 2008 bking caveat - I do not own shares, LOL. I read the second review, the guy with the 250 Ninja, and I would venture to say that in all the years and many hours spent chilling and waiting for my bike to get done, I have never heard a complaint, so that review (not contesting it) seems to be totally out of character with what I have personally observed. And I think it may be unfair, especially when compared to all the other reviews which all rate them 5 stars to the last one. read more

Not friendly or helpful. Seemed like they didn't want my business. Bad attitude and not at all service minded. I would look elsewhere.

A long story made short (Updated 5.18.13): Bought a used 2006 Ninja EX250 from this dealer, advertised as having a completed MD State Inspection. I'm a new rider, and this was my first bike. High level of cluelessness. Ultimately, they lost the Certificate of Inspection (perhaps it was never actually performed), and after getting the bike reinspected at a more local shop, it failed. I ended up paying an extra 40% of what I originally paid for the bike in repairs (parts and labor) due to a blown rear shock, rubber rot on the tires, and a bent rear brake lever -- all just so it would pass inspection. The shop that did these repairs advocated on my behalf with Cycles, to no avail. I called Cycles regarding the Certificate. They were not especially helpful. Following this, I discovered a hole punctured in the gas tank from a fairing bolt, a problem for which there was an open recall on the bike's VIN. Got the tank replaced for free at JT Motorsports in Frederick, who also discovered a few other minor issues and fixed them (for free). Highly recommend those folks. So yeah, I am a new rider, and they didn't make a lot of money off me buying a used 250. They also endangered my safety, phoned in the inspection, and apparently didn't need to remove the front cowling since a fairing bolt was rusted into the punctured tank. That's funny considering they said that the bike was fully serviced prior to selling it to me. Or maybe they are the ones who punctured the tank by putting the fairing back on incorrectly. It goes without saying that I recommend that you use extreme caution if you choose to deal with Cycles of Silver Spring. read more

I know this shop may appear new, but the staff here are all from the well known, and recently closed, Cycles USA. I've used other shops in the area, but feel far more comfortable here. The staff here were very helpful, answering all my questions and ensuring I had the best information before I made a decision. There was no backlog of bikes like other shops, and the only delay was in waiting for parts (I got my bike back the day the part came in). They even deducted some of the labor cost since they had to access that area of the bike already (replaced brake pads and tires). Very accessible via phone or email, communication was definitely not an issue. I have every intention of returning for future maintenance. read more

(FYI, I wrote this same review in Google, but it's worth saying twice.) A month ago, I brought my old Kawasaki in to Cycles of Silver Spring. I'm not a bad shade tree mechanic, but there was a nagging performance problem I just couldn't run down. I'd done all the easy solutions and adjustments -- replaced the pilot jets, disassembled, cleaned and reassembled the carbs, checked the spark and replaced the plugs, adjusted the valves (shims), etc. -- but it was only getting worse. So this was not an easy repair, and I'm not a common customer. I made the appointment, managed to limp it over to their shop, and we talked. We started the conversation in the usual way for me: "Well, it could be [this]." "I thought so too, which is why I did [that], [this], and [this other]." "Well, it might be [another option]." "Might be, but I checked [here] and [there], and with those measurements, it seemed unlikely." I swear, I try not to be annoying about it. I know I'm not Mr. Mechanic, but I'm also smarter than I look. Thankfully, rather than making assumptions, they listened, and started to work with me almost immediately. I gave it to them for a day, and after a bit of struggling (hey, it was subtle), they found the root problem and fixed it. Not only that, they talked to me about some of the other things they noticed while they were there, which I found marvelously helpful. Because it was difficult, the repair bill wasn't tiny, but they told me that going in, and the total was close to their estimate. In addition, they showed me other stuff that needed attention: leaking fork seals (worse than I thought), broken cable housing, and other broken bits I hadn't noticed. Very helpful, especially when they knew I'd be doing those repairs myself. The only reason I don't give them a 5-star rating is because they misplaced my keys, and I had to wait around for an hour or so while they scoured the shop, apologizing constantly until they found them. Embarrassing, but ultimately trivial. They fixed a difficult problem, and gave me extra value. Can't ask for more than that. read more

I took my bike to this place for inspection. They inspected the bike and said there is a crack on the front light so gave me a quote and talked me me to change the oil, and do other maintenance as well. I didn't know it was a trap, I ended up paying almost two times of the initial quote. I was also about to be charged for a spare part that they have ordered by mistake as well, if I would have not asked for details of the service. These people are dishonest, won't go there anymore and won't recommend this place. read more

I took my R1150 BMW to Cycles of SS. Great shop, friendly staff. They stand behind their work. They are very knowledgeable and pretty quick. The mechanics can work on an assortment of bikes. I saw Urals, triumphs, motor cross, Enfield, Japanese bikes, Harley's and others. They don't discriminate. Don't let the full parking lot intimidate you. They are flexible in scheduling times. They have a good assortment of stuff to buy. Proximity to DC is great. Comfortable wait area and all sorts of interesting walk in customers. They also have wifi, and chicken tenders. read more
