I also wanted a second set of eyes to check all my work and inspect everything once in a while, so I dropped my bike off at Fairfax Cycles. The main service I requested was to replace the front fork and exchange the fork and brake oils. I bought the Ohlins fork from Partszilla and dropped it off at the shop. I was missing some other small parts needed, and they were able to order it for me. I had a budget I wanted to stick to, and they were able to work with me to meet my budget and the services I needed. They were very flexible. For the amount of work done on my bike, I'd say the price was fair. The place is very busy all year round, though. Please set your expectations. You'll likely have to wait to get serviced. You'll also need to pick up ASAP. I felt good about all the services performed on the bike. The installed Ohlins fork makes the bike so much better. Will I come back, a definite yes.

I was a bit intimidated to walk in as I dont look like a stereotypical motorcyclist but the gentlemen was super friendly and fast with helping me. I brought in a broken clutch lever that I didnt have the right tools to fix it myself. He was super quick to fix it for me and didnt even charge me for the quick fix! Would def come back if I need anything to fix for my bike!

He is an excellent mechanic, easy to work with, responsive, and extremely affordable. More than anything, though, he is an honorable guy. There have been times where he's refused payment from me. He once told me that you don't pay if he doesn't fix it. There are even times when he didn't charge me even though he did fix my scooter (Kymco Agility50)! And when I have had to pay, it's always been crazy cheap. I get the sense he does this for the fun of it and not for the money. I was reticent to post on here since I don't want to inundate him with new customers, but I felt like I had to give him his due praise. A rare breed!

He stated a preference for working on Asian scooters, he owns a couple of Kymco People 50s, and of course motorcycles (he had a Rebel 250 in the shop when I dropped by). On my first call he was honest about his unavailability, he has very limited working space, but he called back about a week later letting me know that I was welcome to drop the bike off. Unlike at repair shops, available means he's ready to work on your bike right away. Dropped off a Honda Metropolitan II, long ago seceded to my gf, and got a call the next day saying the bike was ready to be picked up - new tires and an oil change for a very reasonable price. If you want to save time, bring him the parts he'll need to do the work (we brought him tires and synthetic oil of the right viscosity). When we picked up the scoot he made sure to mention some warning signs he noticed while working on the bike and advised us to keep an eye on an oil leak, all of which was appreciated. Have yet to bring in a scooter or motorcycle requiring a major repair or diagnosis but I'll report back when/if I do.

Most of the other bike shops I stepped foot in managed to mansplain me right back out the door. Laurel was patient and helpful as I tried on literally every pair of pants (men and women) in the showroom. The crew there was also super gracious in helping me with some basic questions about my new bike. Love my new riding pants and gloves. Really looking forward to coming back to take a basic maintenance class, learn more about fixing my bike up myself, and meeting more riders.

It's also a great place to learn more about your machine, make repairs, and customize. Gear selection is limited to make finding what you want easy. The shop is very spacious to keep the space feeling more like a hangout than a warehouse for merchandise. A lot of the brands are not distributed by any other brick and mortar shop in the area (Saint comes to mind), and all are high quality and stuff you would actually buy. There is also a selection of supplies, which is targeted for members if the motorcycle club. They stock 15-50 boxer oil which is hard to find to support the boxer owners that are members. This evolving support is part of what makes membership valuable. Which brings us to membership. Half of the space is a members only garage which is available by signing up for one of a few membership tiers. Dues vary with access: higher tiers cost more and give you more time to make use if the garage space, use the wide assortment of shop tools, and in a few cases give access to specialized machinery. Classes that are made available to the public are offered to members at a discounted rate. It's common for 2-3 different projects being worked on, and collaboration is natural. The DC moto scene is small but welcoming, and Dunn Lewis is definitely a good place to connect. They offer events and rides that are available for anyone, and it would be hard not to get involved with DC moto clubs like dirt church if you hang around the shop. Mason and Laurel who run the shop are always available for tips on what's happening around the city and are a huge part of what make DLMC worth supporting. There's also great food and bars on the same block. Worth mentioning. As far as what could be better: it's a new space and features are growing. So if it doesn't have everything you need, you might have to wait for them to bring it in. But you only need to make the suggestion and it's something you'll probably see in the future. All moto and scooter riders are welcome. More than worth a look.

My Review for Scooter Solutions and Cycles I honestly…read morebelieve that many of the people leaving negative reviews are bringing in old, badly damaged scooters/motorcycles and expecting a miracle. In reality, those bad reviews are a very low number compared to the actual crowd this shop serves. Every time I am there, I see the long lines for maintenance and repairs, and at least half of them look like old, beat-up scooters/motorcycles--not just brand-new ones. And the shop does a great job on all of them. In fact, I recently talked to a guy there who had a really old, beat-up scooter, and he told me himself that this shop always fixes his problems perfectly. Come to think of it, every time I go, I see multiple people with both old and new scooters/motorcycles all having positive experiences, getting positive results, and sharing positive feedback. My own experience here has been entirely different from the bad reviews and consistently excellent. Fantastic Customer Service, Fairness, & Why There's a Wait The lady at the front desk is always incredibly polite, nice, and highly knowledgeable when it comes to paperwork and explaining how things work. In fact, when I once asked if I could pay extra to skip the line and get my scooter/motorcycle fixed faster, she told me that they operate strictly on a "first-come, first-served" basis because they want to treat everyone fairly. I respected that level of integrity immensely. It is true that they are often backed up with a lot of scooters/motorcycles in line for repairs and maintenance. But there is a reason for that long wait time: it's because they do good business and people keep coming back! Yes, you might have to wait a little bit for them to get to your scooter/motorcycle, but once they do, they are going to fix it right. They tell you the truth about the timeline depending on how many scooters/motorcycles are ahead of yours, and they deliver real results. Expert Mechanics & Honest Sales Mr. Gus is the boss, and he is very polite and extremely knowledgeable about the mechanical side of things. The technicians who work under him are also incredibly kind and highly skilled. I have purchased two rides from this shop--first a brand-new scooter-style motorcycle, and later a second brand-new motorcycle. They are always completely honest about the price and they never try to pressure you into buying something you don't need. They patiently answered all of my questions and genuinely want to help. They go out of their way to make sure you get the best experience possible and leave completely happy with whatever scooter/motorcycle you choose. Neither of my rides has ever given me an issue, and every time I bring them back for scheduled maintenance, the entire team does a fantastic job. Why I'm Writing This I realized that people rarely take the time to write a review when things go well because they are busy with their lives. But the moment someone is angry or emotionally distraught--often without even understanding the mechanical issues they are dealing with--their first reaction is to leave a 1-star review. I don't usually write reviews, but Scooter Solutions absolutely deserves the recognition. They run an honest, high-quality business, and they are hands down the best place around for anyone who wants their scooter/motorcycle taken care of the right way.
