I had an extremely horrible experience with Fair Price Carpet. In our initial quote there was a $900 "prep fee". Seemed a little ridiculous as the house was completely empty, except appliances, all of our belongings were in a POD on our driveway and the old flooring was already removed. But whatever, we understand there is prep work so we went with it. On day one of the job we got a call that there was going to be an additional $825 prep fee to make the floor even. We had already given them half of the money for the job so had no other choice but to pay the additional to keep things moving. When we got told the job was complete we were completely dissatisfied. There were spots where grout was missing, the floors weren't cleaned and there was cement an our bath tubs and walls. The house was a complete mess. There was a thick coat of dust on all of our appliances and the floors were disgusting. If I were installing floors and I knew there was going to be such thick dust id definitely put plastic wrap over someones appliances. I cant believe they'd make such a mess. We spent $20,300 on new flooring and walked into a construction zone. I truly feel after spending that much money on floors we should walk into our home with our floors looking like a show room. We reached out to Fair Price with our complaints and they told us they'd come out and inspect the floors. They came out and said they'd look at the schedule and see when the installer can come by and clean the mess he left and fill the spots of grout that were missing. They told me he'd be there at noon. He arrived at 4PM. When he arrived he told us he wasn't a maid and it wasn't his job to clean up, but he did fill the grout. Fair Price then called me two days later asking for final payment on the job. Not asking if the installer cleaned his mess, or if he fixed the grout, just asking for payment. We hired a house cleaner and reached back out again after the house was clean to show spots we didn't feel looked correct. The grout we choose was a grey color but it looks very white in several rooms in then house. Fair Price sent the initial guy out who quoted the job to take a look at it and he told us to scrub the spots of grout that are white and try to clean them, if they don't come clean and we are still unsatisfied to call them back. Yes, we are still very unsatisfied. Your customer service sucks, your installer is a slob and your inspector is rude. DONT USE THIS COMPANY!!!!! read more

I had been searching for a place to select new flooring for our upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms and saw a billboard for Fair Price Carpets. I stopped in the location and JASON was amazing. He worked with me to find a great fit for what I wanted my home to look like and then the bottom fell out when CHARLES took over. CHARLES told me it would take 2 days to demo and install the tile and one day to remove old carpet and install new carpet. NO PROBLEM we scheduled for the Monday to Wednesday following Thanksgiving. The Monday after Thanksgiving no one showed up. I called the office and emailed and they are closed on Mondays- a whole day off work for me for nothing. Tuesday morning, no one shows up so I call the office once they finally open, and the lady that answered said "oh! You need to speak with Charles, " When CHARLES gets in he is totally apologetic and says it was his mistake and he will pull the tile guy from another job to get my job started. The tile man arrives that afternoon and says he hasn't been to lunch yet, he will be back. Once he finally starts working he tells me he can't work with the carpet people here they will need to be pushed back a day. The tile man says he needs to cut tile around my shower and it may crack the tile that will remain. He wants me to find extra tile "just in case". I don't have extra tile. I ask CHARLES, via text, because he is not answering when I call but responds by text...why didn't the man that came to do the measurements tell me about the possibility of the tile being cute and broken. Charles says via text. We've been doing this for 30 years, we know what we are doing. VERY DISRESPECTFUL! ( I still have the text message on my phone) Thankfully when the man cut the tile it did not crack and no extra was needed. The next problem, the tile man says he can't continue to do the tile with the carpet people installing as well. I call Charles on this, and he doesn't answer my call but texted me and he said: "oh no problem, we'll have the carpet installed the following day". The problem is, we didn't plan for a 4-day job so who will be home during this installation? CHARLES tells me, oh you don't have to be there. YES, I DO NEED TO BE IN MY HOUSE WITH RANDOM WORKERS. At this point, my husband had to take off from work to be home for the installation. The carpet installers arrive and start moving furniture in the bedrooms (we had moved all the small items from the top of the furniture as instructed) so all they were doing was moving dressers, beds, chairs. CHARLES texts me and says " I HAVE TOO MUCH FURNITURE SO IT'S TAKING THEM A LONG TIME, THEY WON"T BE ABLE TO FINISH THE JOB TODAY" I got to the installer and ask what is the problem. The man tells me, they don't have enough carpet to finish the job. WHAT!!!! I CALL CHARLES, and of course, he doesn't answer but texts me. I ask why wasn't enough carpet ordered and tell him that the installer didn't say anything about my furniture. The furniture is the same amount as the day the man came to measure. The problem is they don't have enough carpet. CHARLES replies and says, WE ARE TRYING TO MAKE THIS RIGHT FOR YOU, TO MAKE YOUR HOME LOOK THE WAY YOU WANT IT, LET US DO OUR JOB, THE CARPET WILL BE IN IN A WEEK. So I am livid at this point but what can I do.? Also, the carpet installer left a gap from the carpet to the tile. I ask them to fix it, and they tell me the tile guy didn't cut the tile even and that's why there's a gap. He also says the gap will be larger in the closets because the tile really isn't cut straight there. I call the office again, but Charles doesn't answer. A woman gets on the phone and tells me she's so sorry for all of the issues and that she will have the tile man come back on Saturday. More time wasted!! The tile man comes on Saturday and says the tile is fine, the carpet man should have stretched the carpet more or used a metal transition. ALOT OF finger-pointing was going on. I told the tile man, I don't know whose fault it is but someone needs to make it right. He says he will go back to the store and tell the carpet people what they need to do to fix the problem. A week after Charles's text saying the carpet had to be ordered I get a call from a man that said he was the manufacturer of my carpet. CHARLES asked him to call me because they sent my carpet to the wrong place and it would take another week to get the carpet in Riverside. I wish I was making this stuff up! I tell the man that I appreciate his call but at this point someone, him or Fair Price Carpets needs to compensate me for all of this inconvenience. He said he would talk to Charles. Terrible owner, kirk employees messed up on my entire order. They measured my house, and I had 15 boxes over, yes, 15 boxes. Worth $ 1097.45 He didn't want to accept my return, stating he had a family to fed and employees to take care of. Like I don't? I did everything to prevent going to small claims court. He called me a bitch, hung up on me, and blamed my installer. Smh, then he lost in court. He shorted me the court fees and then sent me an email calling me a con artist and praying for my next victim. I never sued anyone in my life. Then, accused me of wreaking my county car in Mexico. Your installer Abel did an exceptional job installing carpet and baseboards in our master bedroom. I am amazed that no cuts were made for the closets--just one seam running the length of the bedroom. The owners of Fair Price Carpets gave me a quote to do the floors at my child care business. The prices they quoted me was way above the going market rate and above my budget. So I decided not to use their services to do the work. When I informed (Mr. Charles), I wouldn't be using their services because of the high cost they became grossly unprofessional. I believe prospective clients have the right to choose which company they want to work with without being degraded by its owner. Disappointed in placement of seams with new carpet. One seam placed right at the entry way of guest bedroom, why would you put it there? Another seam placed in the middle of master bedroom in front of bed. I thought seams were supposed to be strategically placed to look as good as possible. My understanding now is that the person measuring should discuss seams upfront when they order, not done here. I didn't want a cheap job, I wanted it done right. Quote: "If you are laying carpet in a small room, it's best to have the seams start at the farthest corner away from the door". I have used Fair Price Carpets for the past 20+ years. I can say they have always done a great job. When mistakes were made, they fixed them. I have referred more people than I can count to them. Unfortunately, that has come to an abrupt halt. October 2014, I purchased approximately $10,000 worth of carpeting. The carpet was sold to me as the "best." It's a Berber made by Mohawk. First problem, the install was awful! The subcontractors installing the carpet complained about how they were unpaid or underbid the install job. They rushed through the job and told me to call and complaint to Fair Price but they weren't paid enough to make it right. I called and Pepe from Fair Price came out to inspect the carpet. He said the carpet install was bad and further the carpet was defective. They had a 3rd party inspector come out and within several months, they decided to replace all of the carpet. October 2015 (approximately a year later) the carpet was reinstalled. The install was overseen by Pepe and his best crew. They did a good job. The next problem- the carpet started fraying within 30 days. I didn't think a lot about it at first. Occasionally a piece would pull out and we'd trim it. Maybe a half inch or so. Problem is that every week the housekeeper vacuums and the frays get bigger and bigger and longer and longer. The carpet now has lines with no yarn in it! It's horrible. I complained to FPC again. Debbie said she would send Pepe to come look at it again. Pepe came out and confirmed something was wrong. They sent a 3rd party inspector again. That report comes back and says the carpet is fraying etc but Mohawk has denied to replace it. Its incredibly obvious the carpet is defective. Under no circumstances would a less than a year old carpet, start falling apart from vacuuming it weekly. It's me and my wife and our 15 year old, 15 pound dog in the house. It's the "best" carpet. It's absolutely defective. I have been in communication with the Vice President, Kurt Ritz. He has basically said they won't do anything for me. Ive informed them that I will be filing a small claims lawsuit. Mr. Ritz email response to me: Dave, Our contractor's license number is 331756. You will find our name under Fairprice Enterprises, Inc. DBA Fair Price Carpets. I assure you, you will not get anywhere by taking Fair Price to court, but if you wish to do so that is fine. You have had your carpet replaced twice and now want it a third time when there is nothing wrong with it. I have used FPC on two previous occasions over the years. Today was an eye opening experience about why businesses don't survive longer. They have a website set up for the convenience of the client to pick the product they are interested in and set up a date and time for them to come out and give you an estimate. I picked today at 9am. No one called or came by today at nine so I called the shop (website offered a phone number in case you need to change or follow up on your appointment). The guy who answered the phone had no idea there was a website and said he was figuring estimates when I interrupted him with the call. I asked him to have a manager or owner please return my call as I had a project that would involve several rooms of flooring. No one called me by afternoon so I called back hoping to repair the damage cause by the earlier call. It got worst. The lady who answered the phone explained they don't check the email every day! So they hadn't seen my request and the confirmation email was auto generated. I laughed, which made her angry I guess. I explained I had done business with FPC in the past and was pleased when they had an updated process but now I see that was not the case. To which she replied "GOOD BYE". I don't suggest you use them unless you have no option. There is always an option. The one star is for what I remember as a prior ok experience. read more

I purchased a hard wood floor along with carpeting for a rental. The installers installed white molding on dark wood floor that completely was in contrast to everything in the house and stuck out badly. Kurt, President at Fair Price made the job right by installing dark molding after weeks of emails and frustration with phone calls. Kept me from renting my property for a solid month. When I had another rental come up for refurbishment and re-rent. I contacted Kurt via email to request a quote, but the date of this review have not heard a word back. I do not know if it is they are too busy or incompentence, but either way they are costing me rental time by not responding. This company will take your money. Worst customer service EVER. I should've let my first experience dictate not going back again. First time I went in, of the 5 people sitting in the office, they joked and argued as to who was going to get up to go out on the floor to help me... I thought I'd give them a second chance. Their employee came out to do measurements for carpet. We called two days later for them, no response. My husband went in and they couldn't find our paperwork. Found it and it wasn't ready so they promised information by email end of business that day. CRICKETS..... I called two days later to get a recording(DURING business hours by the way). I left a very specific message and also mentioned if I didn't hear back we'd have to go with someone else. NEVER got a call back! Do not waste your time to save a few dollars. That lack of professionalism and customer service is NEVER worth it. Maybe cleaning their pet rat cages in the office is more important than running a business. read more

This is my first yelp review. I have used yelp in the past but never created an account nor left any comments. I recently have new carpet installed for my Riverside rental property and was impressed with the Fair Price Carpets that sold and installed the carpet that I felt like I owe them a yelp review. I found Fair Price Carpet via google and noticed their nice website. I called them along with the list of carpet stores in the area. Their price beats everyone by at least a few hundred dollars. I mean, I did specify that I am looking for inexpensive carpet and most places still provided quotes above Home Depot price. Well, when I called Fair Price Carpets, Kurt (I hope that's how I spell his name) answered and listened. He gave me few options. He also explained the differences between price differences. I am clueless about carpets but I do know the price he offers beat everything else I heard on the phone so far. I went in that same afternoon to take a look at the carpets. The staff, Tom is really nice (Few others helped but I forgot their names). I did not have the right measurement for my place and they offered to send someone to the house free to get the accurate measurement. I didn't take them up on the offer and came back about an hour later with the measurement. We looked into various carpets.... and... I told them, it's for my rental and I really don't want to pay more than I have to. Well, they offered me a deal. I was really happy. Then, I went and pay the deposit and they were able to schedule my installation the next day!!!! I was really happy about that because I took 3 days off from work to fix up my rental and they were able to install the next day (which is my 3rd day). The next day, 4 gentlemen came and installed the carpets. The carpeted area was about 750 sq feet and they completed it about 3-4 hours (I think). The really nice thing? They also installed the vinyl floor in one of my bathrooms (just had to tip the gentlemen some $$$). I was sooooo happy about that. I did the master bath many years ago and it was so difficult to pull the vinyl off without the proper equipment. The day before, I was told to tip the installer around $25. I was so happy and satisfied with their job that I gave them more. The installers are really nice too. They are very respectful, wipe off their shoes before stepping on the new carpet, etc. My tenants just got some kittens and the installers transferred the kittens around in different rooms (I didn't even know till later) to make sure the kittens are in the room with the least distraction. I know, I know. A lot of silly information, but I am just really impressed. For the money I spent and the service I receive, I will definitely seek out Fair Price Carpet the next time I need new carpets for my place. I have to add, I used to get my carpet clean once a year for about $150 at a time. I might just swap out the carpet every couple of years now that I know carpet doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg. We found Fair Price Carpets at the recent Ontario Backyard Homeshow. Our initial contact was Tom, who we found very professional. Tom called us a few days after the homeshow to make an appointment to measure at our home. We agreed on a Saturday, August 1 at 11AM. I called Fair Price Carpets Tuesday, July 28, and spoke to Debbie to ask if she can reschedule us. Very frantic and sounded confused she said she did not have time to deal with me now and she'll call me back. Just before days end I called back, and Debbie answered. I asked her why she did not call me back and she said she was swamped and didn't have time to call. In fact she said she forgot. Oh well. I just said cancel my appointment with Pepe (the person who would come to measure) and I will just call next week to reschedule the appointment. Come Saturday , August 1, my neighbor and security company call me, I get pulled out of my conference here in New Haven ,CT. My son had to rush home and leave class early to see what's going on. By the time he got home and the security officer, no on was there. The incident was at 11AM. So I deduced that the person was Pepe who came for the measurement. Meaning this Debbie DID NOT DO AS I REQUESTED! I called up Fair Price Carpets and I spoke to a Cath or Kate, I cannot recall. I asked if she can check if my appointment was cancelled. She answered me sounding uninterested and uncaring that it was not. She proceeded to ask me "what can I do for you." Really???!!! If one of your employees can not do a simple request to reschedule an appointment, so as not to waste people's time including your own staff, Pepe. Then I can just assume that there is a reliability issue. read more

Jeremy, in the store show room was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and answered the millions of question we had, while working with us to get us the best carpet and price available. (Large chain stores are NOT the way to go, as we started with that route, before checking out Fair Price) The installers were so professional. We had 4 bedrooms and closets, a hallway and stair case all carpeted and they got the job done quickly and efficiently. Barely saw these guys take a break, and they did multiple cleanups of their work areas as to not leave things laying around with my littles running around. I should have left this review a few years ago. Very professional from the time they measured to the install. This is my 3rd time re-carpeting my home since we purchased it 25 years ago. The Mohawk carpet we purchased is exceptional quality and after 3 years, still looks fresh and new. We are very happy with this company. Fair Price Carpets have install tile floor for us several years ago. So, when we needed new tiles for different house, we went there first. Jeremy helped us, and answered all our questions. We then got other estimates, but found the Fair Price Carpet's price was better. So, we went back there and Jeremy helped us with all the details. I must say that we were very pleased with the quality of the work, timely completion and the price. We have already recommended this company to several of our friends.
