My new favorite bar. They have a working fireplace here which they keep a freaking roaring fire in. Like, a gas one that looks real but still a freaking roaring fire. There are seats around it so you can get all right up in there for its yummy warmth too. It's the best! I love this place because it tends to not be too crowded when I come (I'm always able to sit next to the fire), the bartenders are friendly (and really Irish), and there are at least two craft ales on tap. Good Irish pub with some decent bar food in Murray Hill. The bartenders are friendly and there is usually a pretty good crowd here. The wings were good but inconsistent at this place. The first batch were small and too crispy. The second set were pretty much the exact opposite - large and dripping with wing sauce. I've only ever gone on Thursday nights, where they offer $1 beers from ~8:30 - 10:30, as well as trivia, but it's always a great time. Even better, trivia rolls right into Karaoke at around 10:30 or 11, so you can thank the bar for the dollar beers with a hearty rendition of your group's favorite Boyz II Men single. The beer and liquor selection is standard "Irish" pub fare, which is to say that there's about a dozen beers on tap and a decent menu. Failte - Pubs Near Me - New York, New York

I have been here twice both for open bar birthday parties. Very different experiences. The first time was amazing! We had the whole upstairs for our group, with beer pong and our own bartender who was nice, attentive, and even remembered your drink order. The type of bartender you want to tip because they were so amazing. The second time I was there was last night. We were supposed to be upstairs like we were last time but they double booked the upstairs apparently. So okay things happen we were trying to make the best of it however the downstairs was super crowded and they only had one bartender on even though they knew a day in advance that they had double booked the bar and could have gotten another bartender on to handle the crowd. Again we're trying to make the best of it but the one bartender that was working was so rude and even mean. The type of bartender that you don't want to tip at all but you are forced to in order to get service. I understand she was probably overwhelmed trying to serve the crowd but that is really no excuse for how she treated every single person in my group who had already gotten the short end of the stick being bumped downstairs. At one point we heard her say "I hate all of these people" referring to our group(we were dressed in 1920s attire as it was a themed party so you could easily tell who was a part of our group). It wasn't our fault that the bar double booked us and she was treating us as if we had done something wrong. There was also a point where she actually yelled at me. The owner or manager of the bar who was awesome agreed to extend our open bar from ending at 11:30 to ending at 12. One of my friends tried to get a drink at 11:40 and she said he had to pay I tried to calmly talk to her about how the manager had extended the time to 12 and she actually started yelling at me, with the biggest attitude, that the open bar was done. I hadn't even raised my voice at all so I was so confused as to why she was actually yelling at me. It was crazy. All in all, awesome bar to do an open bar if you can secure the upstairs and confirm a few times that you have it. Great deal for that. I would just advise the bar to lose that bartender as she very negatively effected our time there. 2 stars for last night, 5 stars for the first time I was there averaging out to about a 3. read more

Literally disgusting service at the bar. I was with a party for the open bar and asked for a margarita which usually is included at any other open bar. The bartender was literally a dick and looked at me like i was crazy and said it wasn't included so i asked for a tequila cranberry. When i went back to the bar i asked for a water and he got mad and said doesn't your party have water.. like excuse me I'm not asking for a million dollars all i asked for was a water. Also while sitting at the bar he asked me to move because I'm apart of a party that rented the back room.. like I'm sorry sir i didn't know I couldn't sit at the bar at a fucking bar. The only good part was when I entered and whoever greeted me was very nice. Other than that I will NEVER come here again. I spent $40 for appalling bartender service and trash music. Stopped in just for a burger and fries. Burger was cheap and came out fast. Bartender was great; she was very friendly and refilled my water at least twice. I could tell that she had a really great relationship with the regulars. I bet this place is really great on a busy night. I went three times and, very likely, will never go again despite it being a neighborhood bar for me. First time about 10 months ago, I sat at an uncrowded bar with little lighting. The bar staff used Siri on their iPhones and the bar's sound system to broadcast sexually crude jokes about each other for everyone to hear, as if the bar were their own personal frat house. They laughed and yelled; I couldn't have been more offended as a customer wanting only to sip a drink on my down time. Wanting to give it a second chance as a neighborhood bar, I went again several months later. I sat at the bar and ordered food. The bar meal was atrocious, very clearly and poorly defrosted and cooked. Moreover, the small plant on the bar was sitting in a pool of brown water, seeping into the drink napkins, having been overwatered and without anyone on staff having noticed. The third time (only on the urging of a friend) was about a month ago. It was still grungy and unkempt. I'd ordered a beer, it was fine. The bartender was ok, though he at times ignored the bar to continue his conversations with people/other staff at the end of the bar. read more

Bit of backstory: my friend was having her birthday here and got a $30 open bar package. I don't drink and was going to be the designated driver. I was told however that it's "all or nothing", that even if I wanted to celebrate my friend's birthday but choose not to drink, I would have to pay. This place is the worst. I came here for a party with a $30 open bar charge. I wasnt drinking but couldnt access the party without paying the $30. Fine I paid it. Unfortunately i didnt have enough cash so the security guy told me to pay at the bar and come back to him with a receipt and then I could access the upstairs bar. I did this but didnt tip the bartender downsairs as he wasnt making my drinks (ginger ale) and I intended on tipping cash upstairs. No one was told that the open bar stopped at midnight. When I checked my bank account the next day the downstairs bartender had decided to tip himself 20%. He also did the same thing to my friend who also tipped cash upstairs. As far as hole in the wall dives go, this joint does not disappoint. There is not usually a crowd so it is super chill. The bartenders are very friendly and will chit chat the whole time. Also - its got this great fireplace if you go in the winter. $3 well drinks during happy hour. Also - the food is bar food, but the burger is actually amazing. ($7 and it comes with fries). There is an upstairs for private parties - which is around $30 bucks a head for OPEN bar. I do not make it often as I live in Astoria, but I try to go as often as I can. I rented the upstairs of Failte for a surprise birthday party in 2013. I honestly could not have had a better experience, which is why I've given it five stars. It was the first surprise party I've ever thrown so I was incredibly nervous that the birthday boy would find out or some disaster would happen. Well, the owner of the bar was beyond patient with me and completely gracious. He met with me on two separate occasions before the party so I could go over the details with him. He is clearly very experienced with hosting surprise parties because there were no hiccups at all. All of the staff--from the bartender, Tommy, to the bouncer-- were amazingly friendly and helpful (even with 40+ rowdy 25 year olds). And how can you beat $30 for three hours of open bar? Failte seems like the city's best kept secret and I recommend it to anyone considering having their party there! read more

Walked in here saturday night, and they had an NFL playoff game and NJ devils game on, across their 5 tv's. Asked if one could be switched to the Knicks, and was told they couldn't change from what was already on. Not sure why they wouldn't switch 1 out of 5 televisions - it wasn't crowded, it wouldn't have disrupted anyone else's ability to watch what they wanted to, and it didn't even seem like anyone was watching the devils game. For some random out of town game I'd understand, but to refuse to put on one of the local teams is pretty weak. In the unlikely event someone from the bar is reading this, pleae give some thought to being more flexible about what you show on tv's. Isn't being able to show lots of games at once the point of having so many tv's? Did seem like a nice enough bar though, and the bartender was perfectly friendly read more

Stopped in on a Friday early afternoon. Not crowded, very relaxed. I ordered a cheeseburger platter and a Harp on tap. Nice standard (well, what should be standard) imperial pint, obviously a clean tap as well. Cheeseburger was OK, fries OK, but nothing special. There are a lot of other places with a better burger and fries. Odd thing is that it should have been happy hour, but something was strange about my bill. Well, there was no actual bill as that would have made it a little easier to figure out. Menu said $7.50 for the cheeseburger platter, and the sign outside said $4 imported drafts, soooo, that's $11.50? She said $13 and I paid $13 and didn't really want to inquire about $1.50 as it was starting to get a little busier. That's far from a dealbreaker when it comes to me liking or disliking a place, and I'm sure it was probably an honest mistake, but it did happen. So overall, it's a nice comfortable place, but certainly not a destination or someplace to go out of your way for. Keep it on your list to try when your in Kips Bay/Murray Hill neighborhood. read more

Love this bar for a quiet beer and good conversation with friends. The bartenders are excellent - Andy knows us by name and always stops by our table to catch up. Sure, the inside decor is less than impressive, but it's also a welcome relief from the yuppy Murray Hill bars nearby. E beers are reasonably priced, and there's a good selection of draft and bottled beer to choose from. They also have (had?) a beer discount if you bring a movie ticket, which is great when you're seeing a movie at the kips bay theater. My boyfriend also threw me a surprise birthday party here last year, which was perfect for a low key birthday with close friends. There's also an upstairs area, and a pool table downstairs. At night it does get busy, but I've never had a problem getting a drink or feeling cramped. I would highly recommend checking out Failte if you're looking for a calm bar in the area. read more

This place was AMAZING. We had a private party here and I was so impressed with everything. (1) The space on the 2nd floor is perfect - it has room for a band, couches, even a beer pong table (2) The staff was just awesome - they were so helpful and accommodating. They made sure everyone had a great time. (3) DJ - after our band finished the DJ was great and made the rest of the night. This is an awesome place to get a beer and hang out with friends. On friday and Saturday nights they have a live DJ who plays some music but it isn't horribly loud so you can still talk with the people you came with. I love this place. Cozy atmosphere and a real friendly staff. You can get buybacks from the staff sometimes but how often depends on who is your bartender. There is a pool table in the back where I can usually be found with some co-workers having some drinks and playing pool. There is a fireplace which feels nice to sit in front of on a cool evening while having a drink. Moderately priced drinks and on fridays they have a DJ set up shop around 10 or 11 and you can have a good time while shaking your groove thing. There is another bar on the second floor for special events or when they decide to open it. read more

I wasn't expecting much when I came by to meet some friends for happy hour, but thats usually how great things start. It is a small, cozy bar with average drink prices, but a great happy hour. What makes this bar exceptional, though, are the amazing bartenders. Paul and Owen were working when I went there and they made sure everyone had a great time and no one ever saw the bottom of their glass. HATE Murray Hill, LOVE Failte. Almost didn't want to write this review because I don't want it to change what it is. Whenever my friend's and I are looking for a good time but don't want to deal with the whole NYC "scene" we head to Failte. Never too crowded, everyones friendly, music is loud enough that if you want to get off your barstool and dance you can, but not so loud that its overwhelming. Bartenders and staff are the BEST. I used to bartend and I'm a huge believer in, if you take care of your bartender, they'll take care of you, and the staff here seem to feel the same way. Next time your in Murray Hill on a thur, fri or sat and are finally fed up with the obnoxious post college crowd at all the bars, swing over to failte to breathe a little, make some friends and drink up! read more

THE BEST PRIVATE PARTY VENUE!! Hosted a party here a week ago based on another person's suggestion. It's a small bar, but they gave us the entire upstairs, ordered an extra pong table (they already had one available), and we had our own bartender. Everyone was so nice and they gave us the unbeatable deal of a 3 hour top shelf open bar for only $30! Best part was, didn't even have to pay a dime - just tell them there will be at least 25 people and show up! Birthday person (me) got in free, too, which was a nice plus. We had over 75 people upstairs and it was crowded but there was still room to move - and a nice lounge area for those wanting to get off their feet. All of the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and everyone had a blast! Great bar off the beaten path, not many people go there on a typical weekend night, but if you bring the party, it's a blast! Dropped in for a quick drink to escape the rain whilst walking back from to our hotel. Seemed like a standard pub and the service was quick and efficient. Not much atmosphere but could not really expect anything at 2pm on an Easter Sunday! My wife unexpectedly got a top up on her lemonade without asking for one - however I don't think this was added to the bill so we didn't have a problem. read more

Stopped by on Saturday around 3 am, the atmosphere was pretty chill and drinks were ok but the female Irish bartender working that night was truly appalling. Her manners were disgusting, unbecoming of anyone in the service industry, especially when working for tips. She was brash, snappish and rude for absolutely no reason. As I tried to get her attention from the corner of the bar, she placed her hand in my face and said you have to wait. And then when there was an argument about barstools (an argument she had no idea about) she told me if I didn't like it I can leave. I was really taken aback. Never been treated like that by someone who essentially is asking for my money. You better believe I left her no tip, and told her exactly why. Never going back. read more

When my husband and I were planning to have a joint 30/31 birthday party this year, we immediately thought of Failte. We had gone to a joint bday party here a few years ago and remember it was a great night, so we figured we'd try it again. I'm so glad we did! Adrian, the manager, was so helpful and personable whenever I called to verify something or ask any questions. We were able to get the second floor all to ourselves for the night, with a fairly priced open bar special. We also ordered a couple of platters which were served at the time we specified...by the way, the food was delicious! My husband wanted a beer pong tournament, so they were able to put a table out and between that, the couches, the bar area and the designated dance area, there was enough room for our party of about 50 people to walk around or dance and not feel packed in like sardines. Patrick, our bartender for the night, was awesome! He was friendly, had more of a heavy hand than most bartenders in the city, and took care of us and all our friends. We're all still paying for it 24 hours later! All in all, everyone had a great time and all we heard were compliments upon compliments about the venue, the food, the friendly staff and the price which can't be beat. Two other pros in my book are the clean, private bathrooms in the back and the ability to play your own iPod (but they also have a spare iPod with their songs, as well as a DJ downstairs who can be connected to the upstairs speaker system). I had a specific playlist for the party on my own iPod, so I was able to play it with no problems. We would definitely have another party here, and I'm certain that many of our friends will be planning ones here as well. For a private party space in the city, you can't go wrong with Failte!
