I made the mistake of overplucking my brows when I was younger and being Asian I was not blessed with dark/thick brows either. I finally summed up the courage to get my brows tattooed because I was so sick of drawing them on every morning. And it doesnt help that my boyfriend thinks I look like Piccolo without drawing them on. -___-
Thank the lord for Yelp and their helpful community of reviewers I was able to stumble upon Mei's shop, Faces Plus. I made an appointment right away because I was so anxious to get them done. Like most people say on here, parking will be a B****. Its very close to Chinatown, up the hill from there actually. I decided to take a cab there since I went straight after work near there.
The shop is pretty cozy looking, a nice couch in the front for customers to sit while they wait for their appointment. I made an evening appointment and believe I was the last one. There was a girl in front of me and when it was her turn she said "FINALLY" so I assumed she waited a while for her appointment. Luckily I only had to wait no more than 10 minutes. When I first stepped in the receptionist asked me to pay my $200 in cash right away. Then a few minutes later she came up to me and gave me some numbing cream, which I thought was kind of awkward since it was right in the open reception area... haha anywho, while she was putting numbing cream on my brows she said that I had freakles on my face and that "it really bothers your face". wha???! Then I realized that she said that because they also offer laser treatment there to remove freckles haha! I just thought her way of trying to sell came off kind of rude? I kindly said no. but yeah, they offer that too ladies and gents...
Mei's work station is pretty small, there was soft chinese music playing in the background. She asked me to lie down and then drew on my brows. While she was doing that, I told her my concerns, how I hated my sparse, light and thin eyebrows. She reassured me that she will make it look very natural. She showed me the mirror the way she drew it on looked really nice so then I said ok and she went ahead and gave me some more numbing cream before she began.
The pain was bearable but I did tear up a little. Its the feeling of a needle constantly poking on your eyebrows. lol. She was very considerate and asked me if it was ok before she continued. She took several breaks and handed me the mirror to show me how it looked. To me, she took her time on both of my eyebrows, wiping and then tattooing some more. Then she used a razor on me, Im guessing to razor off some of the hairs that were sticking out from the shape she created. In my mind I was like "NOOOOOO" because I had very little hair to begin with and now I'll be bald! =**(
It took a good 20 minutes or so? She told me to come back to get my free touch up within a year. I only took a glimpse in the mirror before I left but when I got into the bf's car I was able to take a closer look. Just bear in mind that the tattoo is very fresh so my brows looked super DARK (She tattooed it dark brown) like it was drawn on with a big fat black marker AND the other thing i noticed is that my right brow was slightly arched higher than my left =( and because it was swollen it looked a LOT worse. I was freaking out and when I went home I decided to message some fellow yelpers and asked them for help. They were very kind and reassured me that it will scab off and will look a lot more natural. After patiently waiting for a good 3 days, it did scab off to look a lot lighter (a little too light actually). A small part of my right brow was missing some color but it is not too obvious (will definitely get that touched up). Its silly but I'll probably still draw them on for now to give it more color before my next touch up. I hope she could fix the slightly higher arch and make it darker. =/
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with Mei's work. For those of you who are not blessed with thick, dark and full brows, or have made the mistake of overplucking back in the day when it was trendy, I would highly suggest forking out $200 (cash) to see Mei. read more
