I'm on the fence with my review. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. The store itself is neat and tidy. Everything has it's place. Prices are competitive. Here is where I have issues ... how they cut the fabric. They have a system where they cut exactly the amount you ask for. It an millimetre more. Some staff cut crooked which is what happened to me. I pointed out that her cut was crooked. She apologized and re-measured. Sure enough she was off by a few inches on one side because she cut crooked. So I said that I'll still take the piece but can I have a discount? She asked her manager and basically the answer was no. I still took the fabric, I suppose I could have asked for another piece to be cut (unfortunately I'm a people pleaser) but I bought the fabric piece as is. I felt bad to ask for another piece to be cut. There were people in line etc. On my drive home I became distraught about it thinking they could have given me a small discount and I regretted not asking for a new piece to be cut. read more

I have gone to Fabricana for awhile over ten years and I found out a year ago that it was going to close. It was such sad news. Okay, at the time years ago, the prices were on the high end and staff were not that friendly. However, there were some positives, such as the fabrics were organized and the store did carry lots of pretty fabrics. Fast forward now, I am glad that Fabricana did not close down. Although it looks slightly different without the interior design section upstairs, it still carries a lot of fabric choices that is hard to get from other fabric stores in the city. Some great things associated with the changes are the layout with lots of helpful staff at cutting tables so no more dragging a bolt of fabric around trying to find someone to cut it for you. As well, the fabric prices seam to be less expensive, but you still have quite a selection and everything is still organized. Another bonus is the ample free sparking spaces. read more

From the time we stepped in the door until check out this was a great experience. The staff were extremely helpful and cordial. Kimiko helped us put together all of the material we needed for a quilt and rather than trying to upsell she was recommending exactly what was needed. Kimiko explained that in making a quilt there is a story to tell and to stay with the theme. Such a great experience. Terrible store changes I have shopped here for years, but recently the store made some changes and not for the best. I was told by a patronizing employee that because the company now sells online, to be competitive, they're adhering to the US measuring system. They no longer sell in meters, but in yards. They only sell in yards, and to make it even more annoying, nothing less than a yard. Sure a yard is only 3.37 inches shorter than a meter, but it adds up quick. And they have not adjusted their prices. It's a big f**k you, to Canadian customers, and a blatant cash grab. I can understand selling on an online platform, like this, but to do so in a physical store in Canada, is absolutely maddening. And the staff can be quite condescending. I will not be back, and will instead support local businesses. read more

It has been along time since I shopped here but I recently made the trek to Coquitlam to check out my old favourite fabric store. It was refreshing to see such a large assortment of fabrics. Unfortunately there was not much in licensed prints (Disney, etc) but a staff told me that they do stock it occasionally. I did find some other lovely fabrics to purchase. The floor staff was pleasant & helpful & the cashier... well she was neither rude nor particularly friendly. Prices are better than my local Fabricland in the suburbs. read more

I yelped a Fabricland in the area and come to find out- they closed 3 years ago! ha! Lucky for me and my need to make a costume in 3 days- tada! Fabricana to the rescue! This place is humongous! They have everything and it's priced pretty reasonably... Thankfully I found what I needed. Instead of paying $70 for a 3 year olds (Flynn Rider) costume (which actually isn't even in stores yet- and there isn't even pattern for it) Booyah! It was perfect! Saffron Britz and the staff provided EXCELLENT service and quality when I had them replace my 40+ year-old sheers which came with my new home. A dear friend recommended Saffron and I can't say enough good things. She's extremely detail oriented, and meticulous about getting it all correct. She was very patient with me (I know nothing about making drapery). The staff that recreated my sheers made an EXACT replica of my old sheers, which is what I wanted. I feel like I should write two reviews for this place - one good and one not so much. So will just note the good and the bad all in one: Good: HUGE selection, the upstairs is all home decor/upholstery/window material. The main floor contains a beautiful selection of fabrics, from fashion to craft (Quilters will LOVE this place!), to a stunning selections of formal/bridal fabrics, a decent variety of ribbons & trims, and notions galore. PLUS, this store is beautifully organized, very shopper-friendly. Not so good: some of the fashion fabrics are very expensive (24.99 for stretch crushed velvet (polyester). And the 2 women who "helped" me in the Notions department. When I tell you I need heavy interfacing, and I tell you it's for a costume bra, and you tell me it's not going to work and I have a pattern that tells me it does, don't a) give each other a look that says "she's a stripper" (i'm not)...b) continue to tell me it won't work (it will), and c) talk to each other in a language I don't understand the moment I turn my back, because I know enough to totally get that you're talking about me. Rude, rude, rude. I will continue to use this store for my craft projects - the women in that department are lovely to deal with, and if I need notions that don't require assistance from that department for cutting from a bolt in the store I will still go there. But when I need interfacing etc. and fashion fabrics I will take my business to Rokko's on Fraser St in Vancouver, where the prices and service are excellent. read more

I was in the area a couple of weeks ago and since I was driving I decided the van and I would go there. The fiance and the dogs had no choice. I was super excited. I am loving fabric stores and I was on the look out for coloured braided elastic, which I am still on the look out for as they didn't have it. This is not what made the experience shabby! So the good is that it is huge and there is loads of selection albeit sometimes limited on colour and reasonable prices. The bad is that the staff that I encountered were either talking with other staff about nothing or were rude to me when i asked about said braided elastic. Needless to say I will continue to shop at the Fabricland in New West, close to home. If I am in the area of Fabricana and I can't find it close to home then I will consider checking them out. They left a bad taste in my mouth so it's not going to be my go to store. read more

Fabricland (my usual for fabric and sewing accessories) is closing, so I thought I would go check out Fabricana today to see what they have to offer. It is conveniently located across from Fabricland on United Blvd. Upon entering the store I was in awe of the size of it - the word "Gigantic" comes to mind. In addition to having the lower floor, they also have an second floor! This could go well.... I had a really good gander of what they have to offer and really liked the shopability. They have great fabrics and I thought the prices were pretty reasonable. They have some silks in I have fallen in love with. I was also eccsatic to see "designer fabric" by none other than Betsey Johnson! Wandering around I established this place is definately workable and i will have no trouble finding whatever I need to bring my creations to reality. read more

I picked up an old sewing machine and have decided to learn to sew. I had talked with a few other fabric stores in the surrounding area and further, and out of all of them, this place was the winner by a mile. HUGE store, but I have no comparison, first trip ever to a fabric store. The lovely young girl at the counter was not able to answer all my questions but was professional enough to refer me to someone who could. This was a huge plus. The ladies that helped me were awesome. I signed up for two classes and am excited to see they have a lounge to go work on your projects, and a lot of classes for all ranges of sewers. Their class prices were very reasonable and much cheaper for the beginners classes than other places I looked into. I needed a basic sewing starter kit, and was shown what to look for, what I need, and even recommendations to wait until certain things go on sale. I was not sold anything I didn't need and was not made to feel pressured into buying things I didn't want. I was also relieved to know that they didn't pressure me to forgo the tune up of my ancient machine and buy from them (they also don't sell any machines that I saw) but was encouraged to see if mine could be tuned up at a reasonable price and learn it and could think about upgrading if/when I was ready. I was helped by another very knowledgeable lady to pick out fabric for my second class, (signed up for 2) and never once did I feel embarrassed or out of place in such a new environment. The whole experience from start to finish made me even more excited about learning to sew. They also gave me a card for an amount off my machines tune up, and let me know that there were sewing machines I could use for class if mine was not ready to go. All around this place was full of win from the get-go. So thank you to the staff and friendly helpful service. read more

I used to love coming to Fabricana because they had such an amazing selection of unique fabrics. Although they certainly don't have the cheapest prices in the city, they're close to home and have always had something that fits the bill for my sewing projects. Lately though, I've found their selection incredibly lacking. Recently I tried to find a pretty fabric for a party dress I wanted to sew and was at a complete loss for something unique and upscale in appearance and last weekend I attempted to find Christmas patterned fleece and was totally optionless. The service here is very helpful & knowledgeable, but there are often more customers than the staff is able to deal with so enter with patience or you will be annoyed when your trip takes twice as long as you had hoped. Also, remember that they may not have the options you require for your projects. All in all not terrible, but there is vast room for improvement these days. read more

It is not often that I am impressed with a fabric store, and I am impressed. I came here looking for stretch fabrics that breathe. I thought I would have to settle for an off color. Instead, I found more choice than I knew what to do with. Kudos to any store that carries stretchy silver reflective PINK camouflage fabric. read more

I am a regular customer of Fabricana Coquitlam. The fabric selection is very good and they carry very good quality, the prices reflect this. I run a costume business from my home and the fact that it's very close to my home is convenient. With fabric stores at a premium (especially in the suburbs), I am grateful they are here. The only one complaint I have is the staff. In a word, the staff can be very "stuffy" they are helpful, but cheery isn't really what they do at Fabricana Coquitlam. If you are only going once in a while it's not a big deal, but if you frequent them a lot as I do, (a couple times a week) it's getting old. I find overall they could be much more friendly. Overall I give 3 stars all for the selection and the quality of the fabrics. The lack of two stars is for the less than cheery staff. I am one that believes the atmosphere as a patron is very important. read more

This is the worst store. The ladies that work here are rude and unhelpful. I went in to buy a couple hundred dollars worth of fabric for Halloween costumes only to have a lady rush over to me and say I can't have a coffee in the store... screw that and them. I was very surprised to see that Fabricana stores have now changed to sell Fabrice in yards, and not in metres like before. Excuse me we are not American and all the fabric stores here cut fabric in meters. How much profit you want to clean out of our pockets. Be serious!! I have shopped for all my fabric needs from Fabricana all important events in my family life, like Halloween, grad, party, and gifts. Please re-consider going back to metric system following our Canadian standard and not always going for profits or greed. Thank you. read more

The store is nicely arranged, neat and tidy so the bolts of fabric are easy to find and sort through and the same with everything else. The staff are pleasant too. Expensive compared to places like dresssew and there was a note taped to the check out counter from the CFIB [Canadian Federation of Independent Business] which is anti union, anti social services and benefits, so I won't be going back to this location. If you still aren't convinced, service was non existent and the location is very hard to get to. read more

This review focuses on upstairs decor area. On to the good: helpful (most of the time, when the staff don't start thinking that they know everything and insist that their way is the only way), OK selection of CERTAIN colors (and most of the time not the ones that you are looking for). BAD: ridiculously expensive. Poor selection - every time I came in to look for a particular pattern/color combo, they had little to offer and that considering that one time I came in to look for black and white damask print (very very common pattern and widely used and requested), no luck - this was a year ago. This past weekend I needed aqua(or turquoise) fabric for the bedspread, the only one they had (yes, there was only ONE type of solid fabric in the color scheme I was looking for), cost 26bucks a yard (and I need close to 6 yards). So I begrudgingly buy it only to find out that it's dry clean only (after I called them the next day). It would be nice to have more options and not just the one that costs almost the same as premium silk. I feel ripped off now that I also know that I have to spend money to dry clean it - I wish I were told before. Will try Joanne's in the states for my next sewing project. read more

It's huge.. like costco huge. I've never ventured upstairs since I don't use upholstery fabrics n notions, but it still looks pretty big from downstairs. They have all kinds of fabrics, from generic/discount to designer high cost, including a fancy ass bridal/dancer costume area. I've spent a fair amount of money here on silks and velvets (because they're closer than Joannes) if you don't mind hunting down the staff to cut fabric and paying extra to shop locally then stop on by and browse the store, you'll find more variety here than at a Fabricland. read more

We came in here last weekend to check-out their upholstery fabrics. Good selection and well organized on the second floor of the store. The staff were easily accesible and happily provided us with swatches of the fabrics I wanted to sample. The fabric bolts were all well labeled with price and dimension. The first floor was packed perhaps due to Halloween so I decided not to venture too much. I did get a chance to look at their Halloween costume mannequins by the front door and they were impressively made/draped. read more

I could spend my entire life in this place. Their selection of fabric is outstanding. So many wonderful licensed prints for children's clothes and decor, fabric for dance and skating costumes, bridal fabric, polyester, flannel, tons of quilting cottons with food prints, animal prints, every colour of the rainbow, vinyl, faux fur, etc. etc. etc. Great selection of notions and Olfa needs. Pretty expensive but you get quality. They also sell the usual patterns (McCalls,etc.) as well as a few patterns from local Sewaholic and lots of Gutterman and Maidera thread. I was reluctant to visit this store due to the size of it- thought it would be overwhelming. I was pleased to find that while it is large, it is laid out in a way that it is easy to find what you are looking for. The staff are very helpful overall. I/we are shopping for wedding-related fabrics and patterns and it looks like we can get most of what we need at Fabricana. In comparison to Fabricland- I would say MUCH better. read more

I was pleasantly surprised with Fabricana, I've shopped there on several occasions. I am a Fabricland member and worked for Fabricland for several years. I find the staff at Fabricana to be knowledgible and friendly...yes even in the notion dept. The prices are not set by the store they are set by the fabric manufacturers, and like anything else those prices are often based on sale volume. I find the sales are not as frequent at Fabricana or maybe as extensive throughout the store. Something to also keep in mind that in general...home decor fabric is most often dry clean only. The fabrics tend to be heavier weight as well. I agree that the selection could be better but you only have so much space in any retail outlet, therefore you are limited on what you can bring in. An over stuffed store is not a pleasant place to shop in either. Suzanne read more

Needed some fabric for a project, didn't know much about fabric or what i needed, figured the staff could give me a hand, nope. I can understand short-staffed places or new employees in training who can't really help much , but the girl working there was just plain rude and snobby. Literally felt like i was somehow offending her by trying to buy something from this place, no idea why a business would hire someone like that. Never stepping foot in there again in my life. Went to a different place in new west and the staff there actually took an interest in my project and gave me a ton of advice, day and night difference, almost like these guys were happy i was in their store or something. Fabricana doesn't have a good reputation in my eyes. They are overpriced and under staffed and the staff they have are rude and ill informed. Just such HORRIBLE RUDE STAFF and way overpriced grubby fabric. I don't know how many times I have got fabric unrolled to be measured for me and I would find some huge snag, stain or just grubby mark that the sales cutter would pretend not to notice and she would just be ready to cut it while shooting sneaky looks at me...so I know she saw it too but was just evil enough to want to sell this $89 per yard fabric to whatever sucker would not complain. When I point it out the flaw and how it would impact my sewing project, they are snippy and rude saying it's fixable if "I" wash it, if "I" pulls the snag in and in other words they thinbk at $89. a yard I should get fabric I need to wash or fix. They REFUSE to cut fresh (they would have been out about 2 yards that they could HONESTLY sell as a flawed piece) but if I was forced to take it I would have had over $180 of useless fabric as I was buying enough wool to make a coat which was 5 yards total. I asked again for them to consider just cutting off the flawed area...it was clear the fabric had just been around for a while and roughly handled.....so two adult women run off to the bald manager, babble loudly to him in another language, he looks at me right up and down and says NO YOU TAKE AS IS. I asked if I drycleaned the grubby fabric and the marks did not come out, if I could bring it back-NO! It was sad because it was the exact fabric I wanted so much but they were just impossible. So I said forget it then....then bald manager comes running after me offering a small discount on the 2 bad yards...It was 10% off JUST the 2 bad yards--- and I just said NO THANKS! The talking in other languages in front of clients is constant and it's so rude as it is CLEAR when they are babbling about YOU as they stare and gape without blinking. The only person I find to be nice and helpful is the lady who is usually at the till. She is a sweetheart. The jerk manager of the draperies fabrics is a complete dead loss and he doesn't keep his word on things. They did some upholstery work for me and messed it up badly and he refused to admit it even though he could see that the fit of the slipcovers was awful and bunched up on the arms. Cheap Wal Mart cover would have looked better. I was stuck with the messed up slip covers as well as him being rude to me and having me pay extra once to try to fix them, then he just hid from then on when I came in. I asked for him and some gaunt redhead with short hair said he was not in that day........so I hung around and shopped downstairs for an hour and who should come bouncing down the stairs but that nasty man. I quit shopping there 100% as I have given them lots of chances and they blew it all. The people upstairs are pushy and loud and they think they know everything yet when a situation screws up the very women that helped me pick the fabric for the covers actually pretended they were not sure who I was etc etc yet again, they could not look me in the eye when the young manager was standing there telling me it was MY FAULT for the fabric I chose. They never spoke up anbd said we told her, in fact PUSHED HER INTO THAT FABRIC SAYING IT WOULD BE FABULOUS. FABRICANA IS NOT A TRUSTWORTHY STORE IN MY OPINION AND THAT COUNTS FOR A LOT IN MY EYES. HONEST MISTAKES ARE EASILY FORGIVEABLE BUT OUTRIGHT LYING ----NOT SO MUCH! I want to deal at business I can trust and who stand by their word and their product. read more
