Today, I met Dr. McHale and I am thoroughly impressed. He's very down to earth, mild-mannered and explains in detail of all your eyes' health and needs. He directs you in the right path of correcting your vision. He's one of a kind. Typically when I think of most doctors who's been in their practice for a while, I have noticed a certain type of pompousness. This guy was none of that. During the booking process, I completed all necessary paperwork, including submitting images of both my medical and vision insurance cards. Vision North lists United as an in-network provider on their website. After scheduling, I received multiple texts emphasizing their strict 24-hour cancellation policy and warning that unconfirmed appointments would be canceled. I confirmed my appointment several times. Then, on the morning of my appointment, I received a text at 7:23 AM informing me that my appointment had been canceled because Dr. Miller was unavailable--just three hours before I was supposed to be seen. Given their rigid policies, this was frustrating. At 8:13 AM, I received a call from the office offering me a later appointment at 11:00 AM with a different doctor. I rearranged my work schedule again to accommodate. Upon arrival, I checked in and was asked to wait. Shortly after, I was informed that my insurance was actually out of network and that I would be responsible for the full cost of the visit. At this point, it was clear that this office is completely disorganized and unprofessional so I left. In a city like Boston--home to some of the best healthcare in the world--this level of incompetence is inexcusable. Save yourself the frustration and avoid Vision North.

One of my favorite perks of this optometrist office is that they have the computerized machine that x-rays your eyes versus getting them dilated. Extra plus for me since I am allergic to preservatives in my eyes but always had to suck it up, prior to finding Dr. Segool. Both receptionists are great! Very helpful! Without asking, one of them looked up my name in random vision plans and discovered I have a very good vision plan that my husband, who carries the insurance, failed to tell me about. Saved us lots of money. I have also purchased glasses elsewhere in the past and took them to Dr. Segool who had the lenses put in for me. My very A-D-D son was taught how to wear contacts here. Based on some of the reviews on here, I was prepared to have a Clockwork Orange experience, but I totally lucked out by picking Dr. Segool. They asked if I needed a appointment for new contacts, and got me in as soon as I could schedule it - no blindness or bleeding eyeballs necessary! They did a full check-up for Rx, peripheral vision, glaucoma/cataracts, including this cool machine that takes a picture of your retina. Dr Segool took the time to explain the various images and patiently answered all of my questions. They have a lot of contact Rxs on-site (I needed to order mine, but they got to my house in under a week) and they told me about a rebate program for $100 off if I ordered a year's worth. They also have a good-looking selection of fashion frames, if you were looking for glasses. Overall, excellent service form the office staff, really professional and friendly service from the doctor and they take VSP. Dr. Segool is my optometrist from now on.

Really frustrating experience. I made an appointment for eye exam to get new glasses and contacts…read more Glasses prescription was fine, though I got glasses elsewhere. The contact lenses were a nightmare! First contacts prescription was completely wrong. Could barely see with them. Went to an appointment to get them corrected but I accidentally forgot the lenses, asked if they could reset my appointment for any time later that day...NO. I had to wait 2.5 weeks to get seen again! At the next appointment, they "corrected" the prescription but it took them one month to have them available. Despite multiple inquiries about my contacts, emails and calls to their lens center, the contacts were sent to a different office, about 35 miles away! I asked if they could either transfer to my doctor's office or mail to me...NO! They insisted on a whole new order. Yet more waiting! They did expedite the order but the prescription is still off. I need to hold small print about a yard from my eyes to able to read it. There was no follow up on their part. Totally frustrated, I am going next week to a different doctor and company to get contact lenses that are supposed to be right for me!
