Out of the 4 NYSC locals I hop from on the UWS and UES, this gym is hands down last in class. I'd…read moreadvise any friend to not sign up, or drop out, if this is their only location to use. I go only when I am so short on time that I am forced to go close to my place. Issues? Management is powerless to change a thing, and corporate ignores all Communication. This gym was wonderful (with one exception) before renovation; then they ruined it. In a location that used to, and should, have thrice as many, 73d shockingly installed FIVE--total FIVE--ellipticals, and even fewer stair mills. No variety in cardio: use treadmill instead of Central Park (boring), ride a bike (only THREE), climb stairs (almost always taken), or fight to get one of the four functioning ellipticals that are, by the way, all the same variety. To all those considering this gym, I say Buyer Beware!

When I arrived, there was no one at the front desk. I scanned in using my phone, grabbed a towel,…read moreand began walking around the gym to familiarize myself with the equipment before heading to the locker room. While doing so, another member approached me and made inappropriate comments, saying, "I won't tell if you won't tell." she repeated this a few time She went on to imply that people often walk in and take items without permission and suggested I should go to a gym closer to my home. I explained that I live in Brooklyn and do not have a gym in my area. She then insisted on walking me to the locker room. A few minutes later, this same member entered the locker room and questioned whether I intended to work out there. This interaction left me feeling uncomfortable, judged, and unwelcome. Shortly after, a male employee approached me regarding a complaint about people "laughing and screaming." I wasn't aware that speaking or expressing joy at the gym was against the rules, and I strongly suspect the complaint was made by the same member who confronted me earlier. This entire experience has left me feeling unfairly targeted and profiled. As someone who chose NYC Sports Club for its reputation and accessibility, this incident was both disheartening and unacceptable. Everyone deserves to feel welcome and respected in a gym environment, and my experience today fell far short of those expectations.

By far one of the best Life Time Fitness gyms in NYC. Almost a hidden gem to be honest. Right in…read morefront of Madison Square Garden, you get a good view of the stadium and all the craziness happening down below to get into MSG. A lot of the Life Time locations in NYC are fairly small in size but so is everything else in town like restaurants, hotels, and retails stores. What I love about this location is that I feel like a lot of people don't know that it's here. I come and usually traffic is fairly light. Just avoid it between 5pm-7pm because the locker rooms are small and yes they completely fill up sometimes. Theres three floors: 1st floor is check-in, Pickleball courts (w/ beer & wine) on tap, second floor is cardio, a few studios and the LifeCafe. Third floor is weights, machines, locker rooms and a few other studios. The gym is very clean overall. People mind their own business, they get their workout in and get out. Which is great because you hardly ever have to wait around for a machine.

The chairs clearly have…read morea 10-minute limit, yet I watched two members sit there for close to an hour while multiple people were waiting. At one point a young girl politely asked how much time they had left and they responded "20-30 minutes," which makes no sense when the machines are set to run in 10-minute cycles. It was obvious the time limit was being completely ignored. It's incredibly disrespectful to monopolize shared amenities like that while other members are waiting their turn. I overheard that the girl went to the front desk and was told there is a strict 10-minute policy and that they would report it to operations upstairs. Lifetime memberships are expensive. Members should be able to use the amenities without watching others abuse the system and ignore clearly posted limits. Please hang signs that clearly state to not abuse the limit. It's okay if nobody is waiting otherwise it's disrespectful. Very disappointing.

The lockers may be tricky if it's your first time using one of theirs, so ask a staff for help before locking your stuff unexpectedly! It was my first Barry's class + I did an Arms x Run class. You start on either the floor or treadmill, then you're instructed to swap stations 2xs, so that you do each section twice. You can opt to be on either the floor or treadmill the whole time though. The format of the class takes a second to get used to, since the instructor directs both sections at the same time. I personally think it's easier to be on the treadmill, since you're mostly jogging or doing sprints. If there's one con, I wish there was more space between the lockers inside the women's locker rooms and the vanity area post shower. Definitely a HIIT style class to get used to, but I loved sweating it out! Barry's is unfortunately on the higher price of workout classes ($40), but a standard price for NYC, sadly. Overall, would def return for a Barry's class, when they have more class deals!
