So thankfully, there are unique classes like trampoLEAN out there that keep my workouts exciting so I don't have to drag myself to the gym every time I want to work off the 3 desserts I likely had the night before (#facts). I signed up for the trampoLEAN rave class, thinking that it would just be a fun, little workout on the trampoline where I might sweat a little. HAH. Boy, was I wrong. This is a LEGIT workout, and I guarantee that you will be sweating. A lot. It's basically 50 minutes of non-stop cardio on your mini trampoline, complete with resistance bands (free ones and ones you pull from the ceiling), weights, glow sticks, and of course, rave-y music. Not only did I have a blast jumping every which way on my trampoline (after I got over my initial fear of falling and busting my ass ofc), but it was a great workout! I DEF felt like I burned off most, if not all of my 3 desserts from the night before (thank god so I'll be able to have another 3 desserts the next day), which is all I really want in a workout class. Will 100% be back for another trampoLEAN rave class in the future!

I was a monthly member at the Boerum Hill location of Row House before it suddenly vanished at the end of 2023 (RIP). This Chelsea location doesn't have quite the same layout (a bit more cramped, lighting if you're stationed in the back row is a bit intense), but it gets the job done. The best part? Rowing is effort-based, so no pressure, no intimidation--just you vs. the machine. And thank god it's effort based, as the second class I went to I was fully wiped (but couldn't let that $7 deal get away from me!) but still managed to get through the full class without burning out. Their app is great--tracks meters, best effort, and makes booking super easy. I went to two classes, and the standout was with Chris, who played what I initially thought was just a suspicious amount of SZA... only to later realize the class was literally called "SZA Full Row." Iconic. Would 100% come back if I lived or worked nearby--alas, I don't. But if you do, it's definitely worth a row!

"Good but could be better"…read more I like Rowing and I've been to a few rowing places over the years in Manhattan. The problem is they have closed. Seems like it's an occasional thing not a dedicated core of people so maybe that's why they fail. But it's still a good diversion, different exercise. The good - machines are nice and keep track of your stats very class and lifetime ! The bad - A studio could use a renovation - class structure is but boring and the rowing and weights get tediously boring at times The ugly - I don't get how constant babbling, in an unintelligible monotone is motivating or helpful. Too many instructors here do that.

The noon, 45 minute "express" class was very uplifting and high energy. I awoke from my late slumber and was feeling energized for the entire day. The instructor was very positive and engaging. The music was upbeat and kept me interested throughout the entire time. We worked all muscle groups as we danced to high energy songs that kept our heart rates up the entire class. No breaks. We used weights and resistance straps to work our arm and back muscles, which was not easy. Really enjoyed the resistance strap portion, as it really engaged my back muscles, working them like I've never done my entire life. I can still feel them hurt, as I carry myself taller and straighter. That is the dancers' secret to great posture--strong back muscles! Be careful, the floor was slippery and my sneakers kept gliding whenever we did floor exercises. The studio space is small and is located on the third floor. It was difficult to find, as there were no bright indicators of the entrance. Only one workout space available, so no multiple classes can happen simultaneously. Only one bathroom on the premises. No shower or changing room, which can get hectic if you're attending a class during busy times like after work and need a place to change after sweating.

You cannot pay me to get on the treadmill, so if I'm going to do cardio this is the way I'm gonna accomplish the task. In case you're nervous about this being a room full of professional dancers, it isn't and you're gonna be fine. Everybody's just there to have a good time and flail around the music to the best of their abilities. It's much more about moving and pumping some cardio into your day so no need to feel insecure about your dancing abilities - you're gonna fit in and have a great time! There's also a DJ for every class which is a delightful touch that adds to the party atmosphere. The AMENITIES! WOAH! If you need to take a shower and get ready here, there are two showers in the women's locker room and they're full of Malin + Goetz products. They also have great hair products and a Dyson you can use with a diffuser if needed! The bathroom isn't huge so I could see it getting a little congested and stressful getting ready in the bathroom but wouldn't be a problem if you go during off hours. Not only were they so motivating and fun, but the DJ by the corner mixed trendy songs to match their vibes. We pretty much do dance cardio moves to different pop music the whole class, with a yoga mat ab workout in between. I loved how the lights danced along to the music change. The instructor really embraces feeling confident and loving your body throughout the whole class, that you just finish your class feeling good about yourself. Our instructor Natalia was super enthusiastic and energized, beaming the whole time and dancing expertly while I struggled to catch my breath and follow along. She was very fun and lively, and I highly recommend!! The only downside to this studio is the awkward columns in the middle of the dance floor. My friend and I were looking…read morefor a similar dance cardio class and had seen M Dance classes in the DANY studios so decided to give it a shot. I've been a regular member since May 2016. What I like about M Dance is that there's zero intimidation. I feel welcome in every class and never feel like I am struggling or doing something wrong. The skill level is also ideal for me. I see some reviews complaining how the classes are not challenging, but that is fine, maybe this studio is not for them. I am a generally in shape person, I go running and do weights and use the elliptical machines at the gym. I am sweating after every class I've taken. My favorite classes are Victoria's and Jenna's Dance Mix Cardio and Dance Cardio Combo. Due to schedule changes, I've also started taking Jenna's Zumba. I've also tried Tap Cardio, Barre Bootcamp and Buns and Guns but prefer the higher energy classes with nonstop dancing. The classes are for all levels - you can jump or kick higher if you want, or stay low to the ground. As a newcomer, I felt like I could catch onto the routines pretty quickly. Everyone I've encountered has been friendly. Misty, the owner, is very hands-on and whenever I've had problems with the online system or questions, she's been very responsive. The instructors do a great job with mixing up the routines and keeping everything high energy and fun. The classes can get crowded (I think the Classpass users must make up at least half) but thankfully there's a class size limit that is enforced. The location is great for me - Pearl Studios is 1 block from my work place so the 6PM classes work out perfectly. It's a pretty central location (near Penn Station, Port Authority and Times Square subway lines) for those who don't live nearby. And the prices can't be beat - especially compared to other studios. I buy one or two classes at a time (which are higher priced than bundles) and still find it extremely affordable. My only qualm is the changing of the schedule every few months. I'm a person of routine so once I find a class/day/time that works for me, I like to stick to it, but thankfully I've managed to make it work so far. I highly recommend M Dance!

I've also been wanting to try Solidcore back at home, so it worked out that I got to try Solidcore for my drop-in visit. I noticed that the studio was minimal. I was relieved that I wasn't going to be denied for class! I noticed that was actually a common practice, unlike my home studio that requires grip socks during class. The Solidcore space reminded me a lot like how Soul Cycle is. Dimly lit, music bumping, basically working out in a club. I'm here for it. I took Marcus' 11:15am full body class, and it was fantastic. He was such a great instructor and helped to encourage deeper or more challenging movements by adjusting my form. I also appreciated him spending the time to go over how their megareformers worked. Only major difference I saw was the location of the springs on the machine, but I also thought it was cool how the resistance of the springs were recommended based on how far along you are in your Solidcore practice.

Never have I come across a fitness center that charges you to put your membership on pause or charges you for another month of membership even if you can't attend the classes because they want at least 30 days notice prior to cancellation. They also charge you for individual class cancellations if they were made 10-12 hours before the start of class as well as no shows... in any case, they should be grateful if that happened because it makes room for another to sign up. It's really off-putting and it shows that they are money-hungry without any consideration for their members. Things could come up in the last minute and not everyone is in the city full time. So the wellness aspect of this fitness center is pretty much lacking... I initially wanted to pause my membership for a few months and they said there's a fee to pause membership which was a surprise and it made absolutely no sense to me. So I changed my mind and decided opt for cancellation. Then they came up with all sorts of excuses, from saying that I had signed a contract which I never did... to asking me to email them a copy of a doctor's note which I don't have because it's not medical related... I just want my membership cancelled because I found the fees to be unethical. I just don't like unethical and controlling practices and I tend to avoid them... end of story. And yes they ended up charging me for another month knowing that I wouldn't be attending and said that I can give it to my friends or family which was so wrong... I ended up calling the credit card company to reverse it.
