My daughter and I have been going on "dates" for a couple of years now and this month she came up with a horse riding experience. Ok, let's give it a try. The experience was great! Picture a day that was a little cloudy, fog in the hills, and the sound of a steam locomotive in the distance. Traveling up the single-track trail in the forest felt like we had gone back in time. Our guides were so great, so informative, and helpful. We chatted about just about everything, but mostly horses and how to interact with them. We stopped by here after our Ranier trip was cancelled. The staff was amazing! We obviously didn't have a ticket or appointment but they found a way to get my daughter a chance to ride. The horse was a perfect fit, calm and clearly experienced with young riders. They engaged her directly and talked to her, chatting like old friends. It truly turned our whole day around. They even let my 1 year old sit with her for a picture and one of the staff held him as they walked around, letting him pet and coo at the mare. Honestly one of the best experiences we had on the entire trip. It is worth it to drive to Elbe just for this place. read more

Had no idea about this place. Had good ratings so thought we'd give it a try with our family. When we pulled up, weren't sure where the staff was. After a few mins, a 30 something guy with a beard and a drink showed up and meandered over. He started looking at us quietly so I said we were the 2PM and wondered if he was our guide. He slowly said yes and then after some awkward silence said that he was looking at our leg length and our demeanor through our eyes and stance. I chuckled as this is not your prototypical first time service engagement. Got a little nervous at what was to come since my kids were with me. He then slowly started bringing a matching horse around and helping the family on to them. He waited a bit as one horse started to do their business. I looked around at the facilities and they were a bit run down. The honey bucket was in need of freshening. All such a bizarre first impression but we were off to the ride and I tried to stay optimistic. It was a few dollars more than your tunica horseback riding experience per person but was the only one around and with good reviews. I was expecting a sort of flat cruise around the grounds like others in Wenatchee and Leavenworth but the horses started to head up some narrow trails with elevation. I thought to myself, man, this is different. My guess is we had about a 800+ ft elevation change overall. I've got a young kid so was a little stressed at first but that's where our guide stepped up. He was so communicative to my family, helping them understand the horses they were on and how to best interact with them. How to get around tight corners, and also some life lessons aligned with horses and real life scenarios. I could not have been more impressed with this young man. In the end, I would've been comfortable with him babysitting. I also used this as a lesson to my kids that judging a book by its cover doesn't always pan out. They were too young to judge but I certainly wasn't. Although a bit spendier even with an afternoon ride which was cheaper, I tipped him over 20%. He deserved more. Couple of tips: if in the summer, wear some mosquito repellent or go with long sleeves and a collar. Since you're in the woods mostly, it is fine even on a warm day. If you've got stuff to carry with you they have small bags to mount on your saddle. I'd say kids around 9 or older can handle their own horse as long as they aren't too skiddish. You can ask them if they have simpler trails for younger. We also had some apples to snack on for the kids but we ended up giving them to the horses in the end as a treat which was great. Super close to the opening of Rainier so you could plan an hour or two on horses as well as a visit to the summit. Looking forward to doing this again every year. State owns the acreage and these folks keep the land up and care/train rescue horses. So much better than other horseback rides we've been on mostly thanks to unique terrain and the staff. read more

Visited back in October. It was very hard to tell the difference between a joke about us having never ridden horses before, or if they all thought we were incompetent because we wanted to try something new. If it was supposed to be helpful, we did not find it to be. Once we got the hang of it and that came to a decent stop, the guide managed to talk the entire ride, and we booked the sunset ride in order to have a peaceful evening experience. Instead, I was looped into small talk that I found irritating and distracting. Especially when comments were made about prior customers' weights. I understand that is a key element to the business, but I did not care to hear the endless complaints about previous customers. It was extremely unprofessional. It just felt a bit odd to me that the name of the establishment indicates that this was intended for any level of horseback rider, yet both me and my companion spent a lot of time wondering if we had accidentally booked in over our heads. We didn't, that's just the teaching style, I guess. If you're able to take joking criticism and enjoy small talk, this might be a good fit for you. We weren't completely disappointed, but we won't be coming back. And, also, I will not be surprised if this gets deleted, somehow, but that's yet another mark of the amount of integrity this business holds. read more

Absolutely amazing ride! We did the sunset for two, and I rode Barron. Beautiful trails and friendly family owned business! We couldn't have asked for a better way to end our Rainier trip. Thomas was a great guide and quite knowledgeable about the forest. He was able to identify plants for us and even took us to see try and find some Elk. There wasn't a dull moment. I felt quite comfortable and the horses were champs. I rode Cinnamon and she was amazing! Great trot too. Our guide was also great at explaining horsemanship ideas to us. Doesn't hurt that a place like Elbe is a beautiful place to ride! read more

We had a great time! Even though we were both beginners, it wasn't a boring, flat trail ride. It was steep and interesting, and we even got to do some trotting a few times. Our guide was super helpful, and he seemed to care about the horses a lot. He talked about the horses and gave a bunch of tips for riding. We both gained a lot of confidence by the end of the ride. Our guide also dismounted to take pictures of us with our phones at two different points on the trail. They turned out great. I don't think my knees can handle more than two hours of riding at a time. But we'll definitely be back sometime for another two hour ride! read more

Horses were paired with our riders appropriately and the guides were attentive. We did the 2 hour ride and the path was lush with trees and forest. Only one section that had a clear view of the surroundings. All in all, my group was satisfied and felt it was good value for the money spent. Came back to see my home town and brought my girlfriend with me. One thing she wanted to do was ride some horses. For years I remember driving past this place every time I went out past Elbe. I am so glad I called them. Reservation was easy to set, horses were saddled and ready when we got there. Our guide was just a pleasure. We only rented the 1 hour ride and it was just perfect. If I knew I would have enjoyed there trails that much I would have paid for the 2 hour ride. Houses were also also a pleasure. All in all it is a great place and they have very beautiful trails. Definitely a great place to visit and have an adventure! It's near Mt. Rainier, so you can hike around there afterward too. We took the River Ride and it was fine but maybe not worth the extra fee. I will stick to the Nature Ride next time. Sabrina, our guide was very nice and accommodating. The views were great and the trail was mostly shaded. My horse, Casper, was very well trained and had no issues! The reason I docked stars was despite making a reservation ahead of time, no one informed me that this was cash/check only. So we had to drive about 20 mins to the nearest ATM. A head's up isn't difficult and would've made the experience much nicer. Also, it did seem like we were money machines. No one asked our name the whole time or even when the reservation was made. There was not really an intro to the horses or what to do. Just some quick instructions on how to move or stop the horse. Overall, I would go again because it's a nice area and the horses were great, along with a fairly standard price. But I think I would go more often if I felt they wanted me back. read more

Crazy people! Huge "Yelp Sucks" banner out front which should provide the warning to turn around and run! My husband booked the sunset by the river ride as a surprise. It started out ok, but quickly turned bad. There was no trail at all. Riding through thick woods where the guide had to constantly stop and clear the way. Crossing a creek where my horse fell to it's knees and couldn't get up because it's front legs were caught under a log, the guide didn't even get off her horse! At one point she did get off her horse to cut branches, her horse ran away and she got angry hitting with a branch! After a crazy ride to the destination, the sun was almost set and my husband was shocked at all that had just happened. The others in our group had the same look of disbelief. I realize some things are unforseen, but they should be clearing and walking those trails regularly. I will never recommend this place to anyone. Uncared for horses who's only purpose is to make money and no concern for rider safety. For over $200 it definitely wasn't worth it or fun in any way. I felt so bad for my husband, he seemed embarrassed he took us there. I am an experienced rider and not much phases me, but this was out right insanity! read more

I've been torn about how to rate EZ Times Horse Outfitters... Being an avid horse rider for nearly 30 years, and not yet having my own for a year, had created a sort of equine withdrawal. I had read several positive reviews about EZ Times but I'm not sure their experience was as honest as mine. 1. When I arrived, the woman that greeted me had a firearm attached to her hip. Growing up in rural Oklahoma, that makes perfect sense if you are on the trail, however, the woman was obviously making the younger children very uncomfortable. 2. The owner then yelled at me for allowing the horse I was on to graze as we waited for others to get mounted. Horses are grazing animals... the animals (and riders who allowed it) were chastised for these natural behaviors. 3. I went out with a group of three; we were led by an overweight young woman who talked the entire time about her boyfriend in Kansas, how many pair of pants she had ripped trying to get into the saddle, and how these horses were the "best thing that had happened to her all summer." My peaceful ride was ruined by her incessant talking. "She's not really my mom... I'm adopted but I still call her mom." Honestly, it was very awkward. 4. Next, the guide decided to instruct every rider on proper riding technique... this included jerking on the reigns and constant kicking in the flanks. BTW, a gentle squeeze with the legs gets better results than kicking, especially with horses that are accustomed to the trails they take. My horse stopped to pee and she told me to "give her a kick;" I know I wouldn't want to be kicked when I'm trying to pee. 5. At the apex of our two-hour ride, the woman made us turn our back to the most beautiful scenery to take pictures of us. I purposely made sure to leave my phone because this was supposed to be my quiet time without any of those distractions. I declined the photo as she said "this is my job" in a very haughty and condescending manner. She acted as though she knew everything about these horses yet treated them appallingly. On our way back, she repeatedly asked "do these horses look healthy?" "does it look like we feed them enough?" on and on. It really ruined my trip. The horses appear healthy but the one in front of me was lame on her back left and the one I was on needed her teeth floated. 6. Finally, EZ Times charged $80 for two hours of riding. The guide stated she was not paid but received tips only. The tack was old, reigns were falling apart, the animals were not provided any grazing... where was all that money going if not to care for the animals or pay for the staff? Though I thought the trails were beautiful and the horses were friendly and responsive to my direction (without having to repeatedly kick her in the flank) I don't know if I will return...I'd like to give them another chance but I would have to have a different guide. In addition, I don't believe I would recommend EZ Times for anyone who has a great deal of riding experience... they will drive you crazy with their condescending attitudes. GREAT FIRST TIME RIDING EXPERIENCE!!! I wish I could remember the name of our guide/instructor. My wife and I decided to go riding for the first time in our lives for our anniversary. There three additional customers who went on our two hour ride. Two were experienced, and the other had some experience. Our guide carefully paired us with our horse taking into consideration experience, who was with who, and weight (UG, I was close to the limit!). The ride was exciting and fun. We rode on a trail that I probably would not have hiked due to how hard it would have been, but Homer and Baron (our horses) were amazing! We got good instruction from our guide due to the fact we were riding the "slow pokes" who he strategically put in the middle to keep the group moving. We may or may not have followed his instructions very well, hehe. I was keeping Baron from grazing, but I allowed him to take it pretty slow. One of the things our guide said that I will never forget is that anyone can beat a horse into doing what they want, but out-gentling a horse is the REAL way to ride. I can't say enough good! While visiting family in WA I was excited to go horseback riding with my sister. After much research she made us a reservation at this stable. The pictures on-line showed beautiful trails and lovely horses. When we arrived, the facility was just as described on the internet. The horses were well-fed, docile and in great condition. The trails were better than expected-steep rocky terrain surrounded by huge trees and bright green foliage. I have both owned and worked professionally with horses for the past 20 years. I worked as a trail guide for a rental stable very similar to this one. This experience had the potential to be one of the best and most enjoyable. Unfortunately, the guide, Shannon, did not let that happen. From the moment we arrived we were treated like we were a burden rather than guest. I have never been spoken to so condescendingly or rudely in my life. Her unfriendly manner and disrespectful tone made for an extremely unpleasant experience. Although the sun was shining, it was like we had a dark cloud of negativity guiding us for an hour. Regardless of the sweet horses, beautiful trails and the kindness of the other guide, Eric(who was amazing!), because of her unwarranted behaviors they will never have my return business. read more

On a whim I called yesterday to see if they would be riding today, Mother's Day, and if they had room for 1 more. Thankfully they were and they did! With Sabrina as our guide and Hailey as my trusty steed, I went on a 2 hr easy ride with a very nice family of 4. The horses were all healthy, well cared for, calm, and well trained for both experienced and complete novice (we had all levels of experience in the group). The trails were well groomed and Sabrina knows her way around the trails like the back of her hand! Rates are VERY reasonable. I had a great time and plan on going back whenever I can! My boyfriend and I happened past Ez Times on our vacation last year and decided to stop. I have no experience with horses, where my boyfriend has. We were given two trail options and chose the river option. Shannon was our guide and she was perfect. She picked the right horse for me and gave me tips to help improve my riding knowledge. Took my daughter and two granddaughters, aged 5 and 7, to EZ Times yesterday for an hour-long trail ride. My daughter and I are somewhat experienced riders, but the little girls are brand new beginners, so we were expecting somewhat flat trails. Not at this outfit! We took of on a great, steep, mountain trail with plenty of trotting and a whole lot of ups and downs for the full hour! This is, by far, the best horse rental I've ever experienced! Well worth every penny! The guides, Shannon and a young man whose name I unfortunately did not get, but will, were fantastic with the girls! One of the girls was nervous starting out, but she was talked through it and by the time we made the first hill, she was having a blast! Both guides were able to put the kids at such ease, it was magic to watch! Any movement or noise that could be worrisome was made fun and deliberate. I just can't thank them enough for making that first ride one of the best those girls will ever experience! We will definitely be going back. Had an amazing time on the River Sunset Ride, my wife rode "Misty" and I rode "Moose", our Guide was Shannon and she was awesome. She knew exactly when to take photos and how to get the right shot. My wife and I had so much fun, and a great experience we came back the next day and immersed ourselves into the Mountain Ride. My wife was riding "Hailey" and I was once again on "Moose". Both rides were great. If you are looking for a romantic ride at Sunset this is the place. The riverside trail let you see a lot of the river and some great views of the surrounding mountain range. As you ride along the river you will see the clear blue water rolling by. The trails were well maintained, and I would recommend the riverside ride to all my friends. The Mountain ride was just as fun. The mountain ride is a great chance to be in the woods and seeing what is there. The trails were maintained and in some spots left a chance for perfect pictures. Once you reach the top of the trail you will be able to take some pictures with the horses and woods for a backdrop. Some of the trial was a little challenging but a great experience. read more

I have some mixed feelings about this horseback ride. I found it very strange and somewhat off putting that there was a large "Yelp sucks" banner on the front fence. The horses were great - very responsive. The scenery was beautiful, but the trail was especially steep compared to other trail rides I have been on - the horses had to work really hard to go up and down. I've never had a guide tell me before about what I needed to do to not be squashed by the horse if it fell down. I understand completely that this is for safety, but since there is no experience or fitness level required for this ride, it was an odd things to train riders to do/know. I don't know if it was the guide or the horses, but it was hard for a not so large group (6 people) where the lead horse was getting "frustrated" because two of the horses in the back weren't keeping up. A couple of the horses also spooked or got annoyed during the ride, causing them to start going faster or turn around. For a beginning rider, I would imagine this would've been scary. I enjoyed the ride, but wouldn't have felt comfortable if my child had been with the same group. read more
