There just isn't much better than fresh trout. And Jim's U-Fish is where to get some. They've got all the equipment you need - poles, bait, nets, everything. You catch 'em (not difficult as the fish are fed daily and they wait for your baited hook), and pay by the fish. If you don't want to (or know how to) clean 'em, they'll do it for you. What could be easier than that! The last time we were there, the price was $4 per fish - just not that expensive, either! If the kids' attention wanders, there are some unusual animals they can look at, too. Camel, llama, donkey, ponies, and such. This sure is a nice place to visit! Now I've gotta get them to cook 'em for us, too. Fillet 'em, cut the fillets into portion sizes, dust 'em with flour, then dip 'em in egg wash then in panko, then fry 'em golden brown. Serve 'em with a bowl of rice, some shredded cabbage, and some takuwan-zuke, and perhaps some Bulldog sauce on the side. A bottle of beer, and you're set for some serious good eats! Me and my son have visited quite few times.we went on the eye-spy trail and we got to go fishing ! Even though he was to scared to use the rod we rented he loved catching the fish with the net.We caught 4 fish and one was a albino fish !!! Thankfully they cleaned the fish for us ..... [i shouldn't handle knives].but while they cleaned them we got to run around and play on the playground and feed lots of cute animals my favorite was the baby alpaca that was born on Saint Patrick's day !!!!! Spring was definatly in the air with all the baby bunnies goats alpaca and kittens around . I would highly recommend takeing your little ones over for a fun outting or even just getting out of the house on your own its quite relaxing !!!! We loved it and will definatly be back !!!! read more

When we arrived at Jim's U-Fish at Old McDebbie's Farm in Spanaway, we were greeted by a baby pygmy goat that thought he was a dog. That's where the cuteness began and it didn't stop until that same goat followed us to our car on the way out with its tail wagging away. This is the PERFECT place to take kids for an afternoon of fun. In addition to several different kinds of pygmy goats, there are bunnies, chickens, a horse, an alpaca, and even a camel. Debbie knows exactly what each of them has to offer to maximize your experience from miniature pigs that sit-up for carrots to Stanley the camel that kisses you on the cheek. Super-cheap too. They also have the ufish, of course, which I did not do; but looks like fun. You could spend a whole day here and not run out of things to do. Thanks for a great time, Debbie! read more

Have been there many times with our older kids. Always a great time! They still like to go as teenagers. Good place to teach kids how to fish! It's funny to see adults fishing here, but oh well. Anyone complaining about the cost to catch trout obviously has not purchased fishing licenses and gear. Took our 1 year old granddaughter for the first time this weekend and she had fun. We look forward to spending many hours there in the future as our family grows! read more

Giving only 2 stars for the following reasons... 1) don't think this is a cheap place to go if you have more than one kid. They charge for every person that enters. Which is fine, it's their farm they can charge if they want 2) almost everything cost $$$ what we thought was going to be a fun warm day here turned out to be over $50!!! For 2 kids and 2 adults!! 3) the lady, I'm assuming is Old McDebbie is actually kind of rude to her customers. Sure I get that some customers can be pains(I should know, my family owns a business I help run) but you can't take it out on everyone. Because I will NOT be recommending anyone to you guys and tell them you don't reactor customers. There was a lady that had come up and asked her (McDebbie) if the water wasn't working cause it wasn't coming out of the water washing stations they have. She said "well I don't know what to tell you. Maybe you don't know what you're doing" and walked off. The lady was shocked...as was I. This place is super duper family fun time ridiculous rad balls times 10. So legit. This is the perfect way to get off the beaten path for an inexpensive family outing for a good half a day or so. Now I'm not from around these parts, but to my knowledge there isn't too many places I've been to where you can feed baby deer, shake hands with a lemur, ride a pony, pet a camel and get up close and personal with a curious gang of friendly alpacas all for about $25 bucks for a family of three. If you live anywhere near Spanaway there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't give Jim's U-Fish a visit. The kiddies will love it. read more

This place would get 5 stars if it didn't nickle and dime you for everything! Or maybe if they offered a family deal that included some of the activities and a few fish? My 5 year old can't stop talking about this place. When you walk in there is an entrance fee per person, I think like $6 (including kids). Then there are option to feed the animals, fish, visit the petting zoo, play on the playground, etc. Very relaxing day there and even if the weather is not perfect you can still have a great time. Fish are $6 each but they will gut them and clean them for you. You must keep everything you catch and they will store them for you until you leave. Bring a lunch and plenty of cash. Pony rides I think are $4. Great day to spend together with the whole family! read more

I took my 5 yr old niece her for a pony ride. When we got there, we were immediately greeted by Jim, who was extremely kind and helpful the entire time we were there. He was great about telling her about all the animals. She hates the outdoors and LOVED it there, now she keeps bugging me to take her fishing there. There were so many animals, I personally loved the emus, and they were all very friendly, loved us being there and getting petted. There were multiple playgrounds, an I-spy trail which we took the pony on. I wish we would have been able to stay longer. It was a great day, great animals, great help, and lots of learning. We just love jims fish. This has been a favorite family fun place for us for many years. Now we take our one year old grandson who loves to feed all tha animals, make music on the music trail, play with all the toys and he loves Kiwi the wallabee! We highly recommend this place. Our family just went to this lovely place today, and had a wonderful time. The owners are nice, friendly folks, the trout were hungry, the ponies were gentle and sweet (as were all of the animals). I could see the love with which the animals were treated, and the great care and pride the owners took in their work - we had so much fun! We came without any gear, they provided it (for a nominal fee, worth every penny), and were able to send us home with some fresh trout and wonderful experiences. It's a nice drive down from the seattle area, took us just over an hour to get there, and we were more than happy with everything. Highly recommended if you have little ones who want to experience the excitement of fishing, like animals, and want to explore a beautiful area, and be able to interact in a natural way with all sorts of critters (even a camel!) read more

Me and my family have been going here for 6 years now, and have had no problems until today. I guess where the confusion came was when we were nearly chased after by old mcdebbie upon leaving. Ya see, in the 6 years that I've been coming here, we have always paid when we got there, so that we can get our fishing poles and what not. It never occurred to me that there was an entrance fee. Ever!! Well for one, it didn't make much sense considering all other farms do not charge silly admission fees. The fact that they are charging $5/child and $2/adult JUST TO WALK ONTO THEIR PROPERTY is what confuses me. And first of all, what kind of child would come unattended without an adult? none right? So the need for an additional fee for something that is already inevitable is absolutely absurd...maybe that's just me. When my family and I visited today for-what was supposed to be a pumpkin patch picking family tradition-we decided on Jims U-fish. We made it in the gate after russling up our 3 families...made it as far as the pay booth, took notice of their pathetic "pumpkin patch" (which was nothing more than a dozen or so pumpkins that sat in a bin for you to pick from), and decided to head to our usual RR FARMS in Puyallup (where they have twice the activities, three times the fun, and there is NEVER an admission fee!! (despite what the lady at Jims U-fish said..."you cannot walk onto anyone's farmland and not expect to pay an entry fee"). Well, I guess the part that I'm leaving out, is the part that prompted the sour review. Spending 3 minutes at Jims U-fish, cost us $44!!!! Which we were made to pay. After exchanging a few words with good ol' McDebbie, I tried to convey our misunderstanding of what their farm had to offer during the fall festivities, as our family usually only came during the summer. She informed us of our arrival and was able to tell us exactly how long we stayed, and our every move that was made while we were there. Kinda creepy considering we were only there 3 minutes!! I felt like we were being watched like a hawk, but I couldn't understand why. I had assumed it was because maybe people had not seen so many brown islanders on a farm before. I didn't have the slightest clue. Anyways, I asked the lady if she really thought it was ok to charge my family the ridiculous amount of $44 when our visit was so short lived. With a smile on her face, and in front of a crowd of people, she said "yes, I'm okay with charging you that amount. Its not my fault you were only here that long." I smiled back at her and we left.....never to return again. What sucks is I really like to give people and businesses the benefit of the doubt...especially since our family is so huge... and word of mouth can spread like wildfire...but this business owner must not have calculated that in her total highway robbery admission. And its too bad because the power of word of mouth advertisement will either help a business up from its knees, or it can even cause an entire empire to crumble. And the economic downturn for consumers, and businesses of the like, does not allow for risky behavior like this. Not only is it unnecessary, but it just cost you more than you just charged me. Oh, the irony. Old McDebbie had a farm.... E-I-E-I...wait a minute...old mcdebbie lost her farm. Huh...too bad. Maybe next time try some better business practices, or living by a slightly higher moral ground. You guys took full advantage of a family that made a very honest and simple mistake! the least you could do is hand out KY before you ask us to bend over!! it's a really nice place. but i am seeing videos on you tube showing the children fishing and they are not wearing life jackets.. little beside the water is just as dangerous as being in the water. they could fall right in and sink to the bottom before you coud get them. not vey wise on your part to allow that. read more

I have been taking my grandson to this pond/farm since he was 8. He is now 21. Back then the fish were $3.00 each and you paid a small fee for cleaning. I always took my own poles, bucket and bait. On a recent visit I found that there is an entrance fee for each person, and everything you do costs. The fish are now $6.00 each and if you catch one about 6" long you have to keep it. I did not see many caught over 10", but 5 trout will cost you $30.00. I understand that running a business like this takes money, for fish, food for animals/fish, and all other items that are sold. But price gouging is unfair. Families should be able to choose what to do as in choose between family packages, and trout should be longer then 10" and not 6". I have a grandson coming from New York State this summer and I will treat him to a day at the farm. If prices cannot be adjusted this summer will probably be my last. read more

We have been going for years and love it. My older son is disabled and uses a walker, so we have never been able to do the I Spy trail, which I'm sure he would love. The animals are great, fishing is fun and the kids never tire of going there. Staff is welcoming and friendly. We're going tomorrow to get pumpkins! read more
