So I had to get my eye prescription renewed again and I had to find someone that would use my insurance. And these guys came up on the list. I check my fellow Yelp reviewers to see what they had to say I and I decided to give it a go. When I walked into the older building in downtown Atlanta I was a bit concerned. Dr. Birdsong practice looks a bit new so she seem to be starting out. I decided you guys on Yelp can't be wrong so I would keep going. All the regular paper work was there to fill out. She was VERY forward with all costs. So if you see a fee... You missed it because all the paper works tells you up front. I am an old fart so my glasses/contact situation is a pain in the butt. Gone are the days of checking to see if my eyes had changed and just picking up a yearly supply of contacts and off I go. Dr Birdsong waved some multifocal contacts in front of me and said if I like to give them a road test I could. So what was normally a 15 to 30 minute exam ended up lasting over an hour till we found the right brand for me to try. So I got 1 pair to road test and I thought I was done. So I would walk outside to check the distance and read my phone to see if we gotten closer. After a couple cycles of contacts, We found a pair and power that worked. Near to the last time I after looking down the street, I came back in and she laughed since I had a huge smile on my face. The script was getting closer, and we nailed it a bit more. The next day the office called me to pick up my trial. I figured they were a couple more of the same type so I nail down what I needed. What I got was 2 bags of options to try from that hit both ranges of my vision. DAM. I was offered this in Charlotte and was told it would cost me $500, This only costed 100 bucks! Oh Hell Yea! For the next couple of days I will be cycling through the different powers/options to find the pair that will work for me. Then we will go with them. Thanks Fellow Yelpers. You Found a GREAT PLACE!!!! Now for the Tech stuff... Since she is a newer office she can only DILATE you eyes for your retina checks. Most offices I have been to can take a photo of the back of your retina to check it out without DILATING your eyes. It's minor but Im ok with that. I haven't found any pressure with them to buy glasses, since they were more concerned to get my script right. read more

This place only gets two stars because of the actual eye doctor that you see. The eye doctor is always so professional and so kind but the staff is always very rude. There is a young lady that answered the phone today and I think it was the one that did the pre-examination and when she answered the phone her exact words were your appointment is in 30 minutes we will call you Klick. I've always thought their customer service was either fake or not very professional. Also the young lady that did the pre-examination had the mask not covering her nose today. And she is supposed to be a medical professional? Again, the usual Atlanta customer service!! I just wish everyone there was like the Doctors that worked there. Best eye exam I've ever had. Every single person working there was excellent. I ran in late and stressed, and they took the time to do a super comprehensive exam, explain each part of it, help me figure out the insurance, and stayed after closing to help me. What a great experience! My insurance was approved and they knew all the details of my coverage before I got there (this has NEVER happened for me with eye care before). The receptionist guided me to a free lot (right next to Einstein's Bagels) for easy parking. I have been wearing glasses for twenty years and this was the most thorough exam I have every had. Dr. Birdsong was friendly and seemed really committed to helping me see well. Drake helped me pick out frames and was never pushy. He was very helpful though in giving his honest opinion--even when he really didn't like a pair that I liked, which I thought was funny and I appreciated. He worked with me to find a pair within my budget, too and to make sure my lenses were exactly how I wanted them. They push you to use all of your insurance benefits in that one visit extremely hard. When you checkout they will literally hound you to purchase your glasses and contacts while you are there. And will literally question you over and over if you decide to wait before using your own insurance coverage... the doctor that seen me was also extremely vague and uninterested in her own profession. Three stars only because Dr. Birdsong was so wonderful and personable. I felt incredibly pressured the entire time I was there. All sales associates were pushy . No one seemed to care about my budget. I felt pushed to do things that I didn't want or buy things that I didn't want. I also felt judged when I said no. Sat in the waiting room for 30 minutes after my appointment time, even though I arrived early, as the receptionist requested. I almost walked out before my appointment even started. High pressure and very over priced for the selection. Also, seems as though y'all need to have someone else reply to these postings. Whoever is replying to these has no professionalism whatsoever. Forest was awesome, dilegent, thoughtful, and frankly a breathe of fresh air. Dr. Songbird is always very professional. The young lady at the front desk was rude in every encounter via telephone and in person. I'd personally prefer not returning just to not have to deal with that again, and there was another doctor present that verbally appeared to be irritated with the flow of clients as well. It was just a bad vibe minus the first two mentioned. As a potential new patient, my experience has been horrific. I have yet to be able to even get an appointment, but I have spent more than 30 minutes on hold, and another 30 minutes with several people who are questionably to be termed as "ladies," and "Forest," the manager, has yet to come to the phone or return a call. I have found the staff to be dismissive and downright rude. If they can't be civil on the phone, how can I trust them to take care of my eye health? I will not be using this company because snide self-serving attitude should never replace customer care. read more

Very disappointed with the customer service. When I saw a Groupon for an eye exam from this business, I contacted the vendor FIRST to make sure the Groupon applied to the Contact Lens Eye Exam. They said "Yes". So, I made an appointment. Once I got there, they said that there was an additional charge for a Contact Lens Eye Exam. I politely said that they needed to either honor the Groupon rate or give me a refund. They said that all I had to do was contact Groupon to get a refund. Groupon has refused to give me a refund because they said I am past the 3 day cancellation. Given the fact that the appointment was more than 3 days out, there was no way for me to know in enough time. The pure LACK of good customer service is infuriating. My lone voice may not carry much weight, but until I receive proper compensation, I will make sure I share my poor experience with Eyeworks and Groupon to everyone I know. #eyeexam #contactlens read more

Went to get an exam via GROUPON and they weren't pleased ,treated me as if I was nothing.. dilated my eyes and didn't even offer shades ...to top it off I was suppose to have gotten 200$ off my glasses which the glasses start at 285 JUST FOR YHE GLASSES NOT THE LENSES OR NOTHING ELSE FOR THAT MATTER BECAUSE THE STILL CHARGED ME 50$ to dilate and test my eyes!!! I'm not sure there are enough nice things I can say about Dr. Birdsong and the staff at Eyeworks. Check in was quick, and everyone was very helpful and friendly (particularly as I stumbled around looking at glasses without my contacts in). Dr. Birdsong is very thorough, but takes the time to listen to what you're saying and make sure everything is right. I have a slight astigmatism in one eye, and in the past sometimes I have worn a toric lens to correct it, and sometimes I don't. Lately, it's been bothering me a bit more to not have crisp vision out of that eye, so we discussed it at my appointment. After seeing the with and without options, I decided to go without. Unfortunately, I made a mistake and regretted my decision as I was driving home feeling a bit wonkey in that eye. The next morning, I called to see if I could get back in to recheck my decision, and was AMAZED to actually be able to see the doctor that same day. It was my fault for not evaluating my vision correctly while I was there, but they still took the time to help me fix it. Dr. Birdsong was SO patient with me as I tried on pair after pair of lenses to ensure I found the right fit. Eventually, I got matched to a set that are perfect. I also ordered glasses and am awaiting their delivery, but look forward to going back to see the staff once more. I loved the office, location and the staff! Everyone was so helpful and sweet. One person really stood out. James! He was nothing less than phenomenal. He helped me every step of the way with choosing my new glasses and he was genuinely exited about my future plans of moving to Thailand. Some people come into your life for a reason and I'm convinced he is one of them! I am so thankful for him. It was a bit pricey but with customer service like that I would have been a fool not to do business with them. I loved every moment of it. I obtained new vision & dental insurance in November of 2018. My benefits began on 12/1/2018. I made my appointment for the optometrist accordingly & had my eye exam before 2018 ended. The doctor was nice but didn't have very good bed side manners as he didn't allow me to fully voice my concerns about my eyes and cut me off several times when I asked questions. All and all, I went 3+ years with the same lenses and frames so I was just happy that I was getting lenses for my current prescription and hopefully getting rid of my headaches/ pains from straining. I purchased expensive frames & lenses in Jan 2019. After I received the frames & lenses, about 4 days of wear I realized that if I did squint I could see more clearly. There was too much time/money spent at this point so I contacted the merchant and let them know that something was off with my prescription and they told me to come back in to be retested. I was retested by another doctor on staff and she let me know during my exam that my prescription was different and I needed stronger lenses for clarity. I was told that I would receive new lenses and Eyeworks of Atl never contacted me to pick up the new lenses. I went through my bank to dispute the charges for malpractice, in the end I didn't receive my proper corrective lenses but they still had my money. I've been considering getting lasik for 6+ years but wasn't sure if it was the right decision or if I would be able to afford it. I couldn't see fully so I broke down & finally had the corrective surgery 7/18/19. It cost me close to $2K. It was the best decision I've ever made in my life. At the lasik consultation the during my exam, my eyes were dilated and examed (they wrote down my script) & then they asked for the frames/lenses that I was given from Eyeworks of Atlanta and tested those. I was asked when I received the frames because the script was so off from what I needed & I'd only had them for 6 1/2 months. Malpractice! On 7/31/2019 I returned the incorrect product to the merchant. I would like for this merchant to return all of my money since they didn't provide what I initially paid for. In the end, because I couldn't see, I spent more money getting my vision corrected permanently and I don't even need the incorrect product that they provided to me. read more

I made an appointment at Eyeworks through ZocDoc. They had plenty of available appointments and the particular doctor that I made my appointment with had great reviews. About 3 days prior to my appointment, I got an email stating that my appointment had been rescheduled and I would now be seeing a different doctor. Okay. Not ideal, but fine. I showed up to my appointment and signed in. As the front desk person was talking me through the documents she needed me to fill out prior to my exam, the phone rang. Instead of asking the other guy up front to answer or asking me to hold on for a moment, she proceeded to pick up the phone and have a 5 minute non-work related conversation as if I'd never even been there. When she finally decided I was important enough to wrap up her conversation, she turned back to me and continued talking as if nothing had ever happened. She took me back to the room for my exam and that's when I noticed that the doctor wasn't the one that I'd originally scheduled the appointment with or the one that they'd rescheduled me for. He was super nice, although he seemed quite timid and inexperienced. I made it through the exam, paid, and politely asked the front desk lady (the same one as above), to provide me with my eyeglass prescription (I intended to order online since they're a fraction of the cost). She said she would email it over to me. 2 hours later, no email. That night before bed, no email. *sigh* I called back the next day and informed the same lady that I'd never received my prescription and her exact response was "Well, I sent it. Check your spam." To which I informed her that I had already checked my spam and I didn't have it. So she reluctantly agreed to send it again. Next day, still no email. I eventually just decided to walk in and wait for them to hand it to me, which took about 30 seconds. So I'm not sure why she didn't just do that in the first place. This appointment was much more painful than it should have been, so they won't be receiving any more of my business. If you are looking for good service or have any intention of taking your eyeglass or contact lens business online after your exam, I'd advise you to stay far away from this place. read more

While the doctor that saw me was professional and pleasant, my overall experience here was not great. 1) Even though I arrived on time I had to wait 30 min before I was seen. 2) When I was filling out paperwork I asked the receptionist to explain the sheet about the contact fitting. During the explanation she conveniently mentioned nothing about the $85 additional charge I would be paying for at the end of the visit. My takeaways: Don't expect to be seen on time. Don't trust them to be candid about the paperwork you're signing or the additional charges you may be incurring. Unless you're desperate, go somewhere else. read more

The good: Dr. Birdsong is really great. It was a standard eye exam and she really took her time with me. Also they are upfront about the costs of the exam portions (although it's not entirely clear if you need the contact exam or not...). The guy running the check-in/insurance part was awesome too. He found my insurance information from previous records even though I couldn't find my updated card. The bad: The sales people there are incredibly pushy, as a few others have pointed out. I had to refuse to buy glasses multiple times and was shamed for it. They even insulted my current glasses as a way to make me want to buy new glasses. Also they told me I would be getting a $200 rebate for my contacts if I bought it through them. What they didn't mention was that with my order, I would actually only qualify for $100. They also said I'd need an itemized receipt for this rebate and that they'd email it to me. I had to call and ask for them to email it, and then they emailed me a blank page...three times. Finally I got the itemized receipt. I noticed I could get my contacts for about $180 cheaper through Target online so I tried to cancel my order. They wouldn't let me (admittedly there were warnings about this, so a bit of mea culpa there). Also, they had lost my appointment in the system somewhere, so that was stressful for everyone. I will likely not be going back. I appreciated a year ago when I went I didn't feel any pressure to buy anything, and this time it was a complete hassle to leave without buying something. I also felt misled, to the tune of $100 which is what really grinds my gears. Next time, I'll probably just go to Target or some other cheaper place even though it's further away just to save money and avoid the pressure. read more

But do to high prices for generic frames and the hiccup we had with pricing that called for me to my insurance company to get straightened out because of double charging me. I wont return. UPDATE Since my initial encounter, Susan/mgr stepped in and rectified the issues with pricing and my insurance and I went ahead and ordered my glasses. I think this as standard service and something that should have been provided without having to raise a fuss. It's been about 2 weeks now. Received about 5 calls in a row this afternoon from Susan while I was wrapping up my salon appointment - I declined 4 and finally got annoyed and answered the last one. Talk about persistent -- Susan, you left voicemail after the first call -- calling multiple times after that was simply not appreciated and bordering on harassment. She claimed that she was providing an extra level of service to make sure all was well. Turns out she just saw my Yelp post and "was not happy with it" -- and made it clear that she expected me to change/delete it. She kept repeating a lecture that she wanted to provide good service to the clients. In case she's not aware -- the goal of customer service is to assure that the client is happy -- not the other way around...in other words, it's not the client's responsibility to ensure the service provider is happy. So here's the update you requested. It would have been better if you didn't call and lecture me today -- the updated review would have been made on a positive note, rather than still leaving me with a bad taste of the experience. read more

The worse eye place I have experience in 50+ years. BUYERS BEWARE! I have dealt with SHADY, DISHONESTY, NOT TRUSTWORTHY, NOT FAIR NOR JUST businesses in my life time but this business I experience a terrible nightmare. I have been wearing glasses for more than 50+ years and realize my prescription is HIGH, nearly blind. So when I go in to purchase glasses I ALWAYS ask sales person, what are the best frames for my -6.75 lenses and bi-focal which will be heavy and thick. I have to purchase all the essentials to make my vision as comfortable as possible. I ASKED, ARE YOU SURE THE FRAMES ARE NOT TO BIG, sales woman reply, oh, no they would be perfect. Oh, believe me she sold me the entire package even tent. Shade Frames on sale $28. WITh discount $453.20 out of pocket plus insurance payment. After I received my glasses: they would not stay on my nose even after 8 tries to adjust. To read or bend my head downward I must hold my glasses on my nose from falling down because they are to heavy. I took the glasses to my DR. and she said yes these are too big for prescription and she changed prescription. I have been back and forth with manager for 3 months, then stated come back in for options. I go in for options: PAY $268 MORE TO GET more lense. What an option. I have never complained about any glasses in 50+ years but EYEWORKS Atlanta: Decatur, Midtown and Brookhaven are SHADY, DISHONEST, NOT TRUSTWORTHY, NOT FAIR NOR JUST. I put in my order for a pair of glasses over three weeks ago. They asked me to check them last week, but they were very clearly not the right prescription. One of the lenses was significantly thicker than the other. When asked, they gave me some BS about cylinder diameters and all that, which was instantly proved wrong once I tried them out. So they took it back, and as of the moment, I still don't have an estimate on when they will be ready. I've already asked twice that they give me a discount for this poor service. Both times they said they'll talk to the manager, but I still haven't gotten a response. This has been terrible from start to finish, and I'm planning on getting a full refund if I don't receive the new glasses within a week, which will make it a whole month since I put in the order. read more

During Covid, I tried to order new glasses online. A family member has cancer and I'm trying not to be indoors unnecessarily. I visited this office in February 2019 and was provided only a 1 year prescription, not the two years most allow. It's now the height of the pandemic and I asked if they could extend my prescription. A gentleman just called and acknowledged that he understands why I might be hesitant to come in, that he cannot extend my prescription, unless - of course - i buy my glasses there. I understand that people need to make money, but they're clearly more concerned with money than health. I will NOT EVER use these folks again. It's just too unethical for me. read more

I am just getting to do this review, but this is not a place you would like to go to for your eye glass needs. Not only did they give me glasses that were not my prescription, but blamed me for my eyes burning and the headaches that were caused by wearing the glasses. I told them IMMEDIATELY when I tried them on, that there was a problem. They assured me it wasn't and that I just needed to wear them for a week or so. I did, still a problem. They said glasses don't cause headaches or eye burning if its the incorrect prescription (basically stating I was lying). But, they asked me to come back in, I made an appt came back in and they had me sitting there for almost 1 hour just waiting to be seen. It was only myself and ONE other customer in the entire store for that hour. Just not a place I would like to give my business too. I suggest you not go here either, trust me. My second eye exam with Eyeworks. They took great care of me and I had both progressive eyeglasses and contacts through them.

I was due for my annual exam and I have new insurance that wasn't compatible with my last doctor so I had to switch to a new doctor last minute. Eyeworks was able to get me in on the same day so that was a plus! I arrived early so I could complete new patient paper work and I was in and out in no time. My doctor, Dr. Birdsong, recommended I wear daily contact lenses instead of the previous lenses I had been wearing. Best decision ever made. I will be returning. As for James, well, I could spend all day choosing frames and getting feedback. He'll make you feel like a diva. They're always really nice and I've had great experiences with the doctors I've seen.
